Chapter 1
Bill Cipher sighed as he drove farther and father away from his old house. It was a grey house, black rooftop... pretty monochromatic. Even on the inside. He'd give his brother's other eye to stay. Not really. (Maybe one of his own eyes...) Either way, he'd miss the place. So many memories would now be lost...
His blonde hair moved gracefully with his head when he turned to the front of the car. His bright blue eyes met intensely with his step father's in the rear view mirror. He flinched away from his soft, apologizing stare. It was always that stare. He didn't need anyone's pity. He didn't need anyone period.
His brother beside him sniffled and wiped away his tears with his hoodie.
Except Will. Damn him. Damn his brother. Damn him for making him care. Bill let a soft sigh escape his lips.
Mom was really gone. She ran away from him, like she promised never to do. Like what dad had did when he and his twin were little. Three. Every thought of his parents would usually bring his brother to tears, Bill tried not to think about it. Tears slowly started dripping down his own cheeks and he wiped them as quickly as he could. He couldn't expose himelf, he had no weaknesses. It had been months since she left. He smiled to his brother. Bill had to be strong. I mean, he was the evil twin. Right?
They were moving away from their old home, hoping the memories would stay there with it. Luke cleared his throat and spoke carefully as well as slowly, as if he were speaking to a feral animal that could attack at any moment. That wasn't true... mostly.
"Son, I don't want you to feel like anything was your fault... Your mother just needed a break from me, I'm sure." His step- now adoptive dad tried to reassure.
"I know you guys never looked up to me, but I want to raise you, and I'm going to do a darn good job doing it. I loved your mother, and I know you did too, but it's been months and... I think we can move on." He coughed again, trying to brush the awkwardness off. "I love you guys. I wouldn't trade you for the world."
Bill was barely listening. He didn't want to, all these lectures were always the same. It was getting old and becoming a bore. He knew Luke would never file a missing person report. Well, technically, Luke was there when mom left and said her goodbyes hence, it didn't actually count as "missing". Bill never let that bother him. His mother was kidnapped and inside he knew that was the truth. She'd never break a promise.
Luke tried over and over convincing the twins (mostly Will) that their mom didn't actually go missing... she just... left. So, as agreed, they were moving to a new place in Oregon called Gravity Falls. To move on and get a change of scenery. Like that'd help. Pft.
Bill noticed how Will kept looking back to their old home and how he cried more. Will looked to his brother, who pat his shoulder reassuringly. "Will, we'll be fine. It's a small town with a lot of forest, right? What does that mean?"
The younger twin looked at him, it was hard not to be excited for a forest, and lack of people. It was also hard not to be happy those rare times his brother wasn't mean. "There will be blue flowers?"
Bill smiled. "The bluest!" He pushed the hair that covered his brother's eyepatch behind his ear. Will squeaked and messily tried to fix it. He always hated the eyepatch. Truthfully, he hated his dead eye. His brother'd always cheer him up about it though, he'd tell him how cool it looked or how much he wanted one too. He never really listened though.
Bill sighed. Great. He was upset. "Will, what is the purpose of hiding something that's not even there?"
Will gulped. He knew where this was going. His brother was back to being so cruel. He'd always make him feel bad about himself and everything. It wasn't ever too bad, but Will made it seem like it was the worst. The only plus was that he was the only one aloud to. His brother made sure of that. "There is none?"
"What do you have to hide other than your insecurities? You're showing off your weaknesses by hiding them. You have to learn these things, Will. What happens when I'm not there?" Bill scowled. "What happens when I abandon you."
Luke gulped, hand shaking on the wheel. He wanted to stop this, but Bill was ruthless when he was upset. Sometimes, there was no stopping him. "Bill..." he tried to warn, but was cut completely from the conversation.
Tears dripped from Will's right eye. Oh no. He looked at his feet and cried. His twin grabbed his own arm scowling at himself and a bit ashamed he said something like that. He was ashamed that he would ever even think about saying that. He wanted to apologize. He needed to. He was certain he just made the only person he'd ever love cry. Instead of an apology his mouth betrayed him and he growled. "Freak."
Will's breath was shaky. He felt a tug at his chest as he clenched his toes and gasped for air between his hiccups.
Why did his brother hate him for being born with one eye? He was just cheering him up about it... now he's calling him a freak? Bill is so confusing. What is wrong with me?
"What 's" A hiccup. "W- w 'ong with-th me?"
Bill sighed through his nose and looked out his window. Not you, us. "Everything, kid."
The car was silent with the exception of occasional sobs.
----
"What a dump, ey, Will? We're going to have lots of fun tearing this place apart piece by piece, huh?" Without waiting for a response, Bill sprinted into the shack that lay before them.
It was old and worn. If you asked any of the older residents of the town, they'd say it was well loved.
Will liked that. It wasn't old or worn. It was just aged with life. He hummed happily as he ran his hands down the splintered wood. He looked at his hand afterwards. Not a single one pricked him.
Bill cackled as he kicked open the door and revealed a large empty room with an island that looked like a sale counter and multiple empty shelf littered the walls. "What is this? A shop or somethin'? Wow where's all the dust? Wasn't this place supposed to be old and abandoned or something?"
Will shrugged, looking around tenderly. He gasped and happily bounded into the living room.
Luke smiled. Sure, the kids were a handful (Bill), but seeing them smile and explore their new home brought a warm smile to his face.
There was a loud metallic screech and Luke looked up to see Bill moving a vending machine.
Luke snapped his fingers and gestured to the car. "Bill, Will! Get your luggage before any more exploring, okay?"
Will whined and slumped towards the entrance. He paused and glanced towards his twin. Bill seemed mesmerized.
Luke frowned. "Bill?"
The blonde jumped and looked towards his adoptive father. He slammed the vending machine shut and glared at it. "Yeah, yeah. I'm coming..."
