Prologue: An Interesting Job

So, you want to hear another story, huh? One where the very fate of the universe hangs in the balance? If not, too bad - I'm telling you anyway.

First in the deserted wasteland of Pandora, there was the Vault, an alien prison opened with a mystical key. To the warriors who opened it, the Vault was just a container of tentacles and disappointment. They vanished into the wastelands, certain that the Vault held no treasure at all.

They were wrong.

The Vault's opening triggered the growth of Eridium, a priceless alien element. Soon, the rare and valuable mineral emerged all across Pandora. Its appearance attracted many.

Including... the Hyperion corporation. They came to Pandora to mine Eridium, and bring order to the savage planet. Through their excavations, Hyperion uncovered evidence of an even greater Vault. Their leader vowed to find it - to use its power to civilize the Borderlands once and for all. But Hyperion weren't the only ones searching for the next Vault's alien power.

The call of danger and loot is not so easily resisted. Certain warriors came to Pandora in droves to uncover its hidden secrets. Some would call them adventurers. Others call them fools. But I... call them Vault Hunters.

Our story begins with them and with a man named Handsome Jack...

But our story adds a young man... one whose blood is half-human and demon who travelled across the universe slaying monsters and demons alike!

This is the story of a birthing Legend among the Borderlands...

The scene starts a close-up of a pool of black slime in a dark red and purple land. A large paw emerges from within the slime and a Beowulf gradually crawls out, slime sliding off of it and onto the ground.

The camera pans out to show several such pools and many Beowolves emerging. It pulls further and further out to show a mostly dark and desolate land made up of red ground, purple crystals, and a red and black clouded sky.

The images shimmers and we see Emerald and Mercury reflected in a window, watching from inside a high building. Emerald has her hand to her mouth while Mercury seems slightly disgusted. A gloved hand appears between two purple crystal formations and snaps its fingers.

A wide shot reveals a large windowed room, at the center of which is a long purple, crystal table. Four people sit at the table with seven chairs. One of them is Cinder Fall, the current Fall Maiden. Emerald and Mercury move away from the window.

There's a close-up of the man sitting across from Cinder, Arthur Watts. He is looking at his scroll.

Next is the man to Cinder's right, Tyrian Callows, He sits in a crouch casually on his chair, resting his arms on his knees.

Across from Tyrian is Hazel Rainart. His arms are crossed, and he looks asleep.

Cinder sits quietly, while Mercury and Emerald move to her side. Emerald nudges Mercury out of her way so that she can be directly next to Cinder.

Watts: Yes, yes, please keep your posse in check.

Mercury grunts and makes a move toward Watts, but Emerald holds him back.

Watts: You hear that? Silence.

Hazel gives Watts an unimpressed sideways glance.

Watts: I've half a mind to thank the little girl that bested you.

Tyrian: If I were you, I'd hunt her down. (snicker) Find her and, well, she took your eye, didn't she?

Cinder only stares at Tyrian while he cackles at her. Cinder tries to speak but only manages to make quiet exhaling noises. Emerald leans in to hear her.

Watts: Pathetic. Why did you even—

There is a sound of a heavy metal door being unlatched. The doors open and everyone stands just before Salem enters. She glides alongside the table with soft footsteps before reaching the head of it, jewels jangling from her hair. Salem stops, facing away from them and toward a candle and crystal display.

Salem: Watts.

Watts straightens, looking toward her.

Salem: (turning) Do you find such malignance necessary?

She gestures for all to sit down.

Watts: I apologize, ma'am. I'm not particularly fond of failure.

Watts and Salem sit simultaneously.

Salem: Then I see no reason for your cruelty towards young Cinder. She's become our Fall Maiden, destroyed Beacon Tower, and most importantly, killed dear Ozpin. So I'm curious, to what failures are you referring?

Watts: Well, the girl with the Silver Eyes.

Hazel: Yes. We've dealt with their kind before. How is it a novice was able to best one of us?

Watts: My thoughts exactly. Even without her new power, it should have been effortless. But...

Watts takes a moment and continues.

Watts: What about the boy? He possesses the blood and power of Sparda through his father, does he not?

Cinder looked surprised before she had a look of sadness which no one but Emerald noticed it.

Hazel: He does. Thanks to him, Silas is gone and the Hell-Gate was destroyed. He will defensively be trouble if he is not dealt with soon. But that excuse Cinder and her failure...

Salem: (raised her to stop Hazel speaking) It is because of the Maiden's power. (turns to Cinder) Make no mistake, Cinder, you hold the key to our victory. But your newfound strength brings with it a crippling weakness. Which is why you will remain by my side as we continue your treatment.

Cinder is unhappy about this and lowers her head. Emerald looks at her in sympathy.

Salem: Dr. Watts, you are to take Cinder's place and meet with our informant in Mistral.

Watts: Very good.

Salem: Tyrian, I want you to continue your hunt for the Spring Maiden.

Tyrian: (laughing) Gladly.

Salem: And Hazel, I'm sending you to the leader of the White Fang. Adam Taurus has arranged the meeting. The boy continues to prove loyal. Ensure that Sienna Khan feels the same.

Hazel: (nods) As you wish.

Cinder raises a finger. Emerald fails to notice this gesture for a moment.

Emerald: Oh!

Emerald leans in to hear her as Cinder rasps into her ear before Emerald straightens.

Salem: Speak, child.

Emerald: She wants to know... (hesitates) What about the girl?

Watts: (scoffs) What about her? At this moment, the only person we should be worried about is Sparda's grandchild. This seems to me that this is Cinder's problem, not ours.

Cinder slams her fist onto the table and glares at Watts, who grins at her.

Emerald: The boy...Y/N he cares for her. If you target her, he'll definitely be there to protect her.

Watts goes to speak again, but Salem stops him.

Salem: That's enough. Tyrian?

Tyrian: Yes, my lady?

Salem: Spring can wait. Find the girl that did this to Cinder, in doing so the boy will come.

Tyrian giggles elatedly and claps.

Salem: And bring them to me.

Tyrian freezes, groans disappointedly, pouts for a second, then looks back up at Salem with an acquiescent shrug.

Salem: Because of your efforts, Beacon has fallen. And Haven will be next.

Everyone rises. Tyrian snickers at Cinder and points to his left eye.

Tyrian: (laughing wickedly) Eye for an eye.

Tyrian goes into an uncontrollable fit of manic laughter, while Cinder grits her teeth.

Magnolia, Fairy Tail guild

It was like a normal day for our favorite Dragon Slayer, as Natsu was at the request board looking for job.

He wanted one that paid well, and involved him beating up some bad guys; so far, he had yet to find one.

Happy: (flew next to him) Hey Natsu. Find anything interesting?

Natsu: Not really, most of the stuff here doesn't seem to pay much, or is something pretty boring.

Gray: (walked past the pair) You mean it doesn't involve you hitting something.

Natsu: I like to hit stuff! You got a problem with that?

Gray: Well yeah, considering most of the time we have to cut our reward to pay for the damage you caused.

Natsu: (bunted heads with Gray) You got something to say to me Ice Boy, then say it!

Gray: I think I made it pretty clear flame-for-brains!

Happy: (sigh) Oh boy.

Natsu: You wanna fight ya stripper?!

Gray: Ready whenever you are dragon breath!

???: SHUT UP! BOTH OF YOU!

At that moment, Natsu and Gray then acted all buddy-buddy to avoid suffering the wrath of Erza Scarlet.

Lucy was at a nearby table with Wendy and Carla, hopping another brawl wouldn't start.

Lucy: (sigh in relief) Crisis averted.

Wendy: Natsu has a point though. There really hasn't been that many jobs available.

Carla: I agree. Only a few jobs and they do not appear to either pay well or provide experience.

Lucy: Yeah, and with my rent coming up, I gotta get something soon. (Slumped onto the table)

Mirajane walked to the table, holding a request poster.

Mirajane: If you guys are looking for a job, I've got the perfect one for you.

That caught the attention of Team Natsu as they suddenly materialized in-front of Mirajane.

Erza: How much does it pay?

Mirajane: Let's see. (looked at the poster) About 10,000,000 jewels.

That made all of Team Natsu stumble backwards.

Natsu: 10,000,000 Jewels?!

Happy: This guy's gotta be filthy rich!

Lucy: Even with that money split between all of us, I can have enough to cover my rent for several months!

Gray: It's gotta be a pretty big job to offer that much.

Erza: I agree, that isn't the kind of money you earn with a cat-up-the-tree scenario.

Happy: Couldn't he just fly off the tree?

Carla: She means regular cats, not us.

Wendy: What kind of job is it?

Mirajane: According to the poster, it's supposed to be demon-hunting.

This caused both Wendy and Lucy to go pale.

Erza: Demon-hunting? Could you explain it a little more?

Mirajane: Well, apparently this town is supposed to be attacked by a massive horde of demons soon, and they need someone to help stop them, that's all there is. The requisite says he'll explain it once someone comes.

Erza: Still, to kill off a horde of demons for 10,000,000; looks like there could be thousands of them coming.

Wendy: (scared) Did he just say 'thousands'?

Lucy: (scared) I'm starting to have second thoughts about this.

Natsu: (smiled and crack knuckles) I never got a chance to fight demons before, this should be fun.

Gray: We did actually fight that Lullaby demon some time back. But then again, it wasn't that much of a challenge.

Erza: Still, to offer this much to fend off this horde, it could spell disaster if someone does not take action soon.

Mirajane: That's why I brought you the request. Who better to answer this kind of job then Fairy Tail's strongest team?

Gray: (smile) You got a good point, Mira.

Natsu: (fire appears on his hand) Yeah, send 'em all my way and I'll fry em up, extra-crispy!

Happy: Aye!

Erza: (smiled at the obvious optimism) Very well then, we shall take this job.

Wendy/Lucy: (held each other in fear) WHAT!?

Carla: No! This is unacceptable!

Erza: What? Are you saying we shouldn't take this job?

Natsu: Why do you gotta be such a kill-joy!?

Carla: You are more than welcome to take this job, but I will not allow Wendy to join with you on this!

Lucy: (holding Wendy protectively) Yeah, no way is Wendy going anywhere near demons.

Gray: Wendy did help take down Nirvana some time back.

Carla: Simply destroying a lacrima is very different than facing demons. She may be a Dragon Slayer but she is still inexperienced.

Erza knew Carla was right, Wendy wasn't much of a fighter, and was not yet at the same kind of level as Natsu or Gajeel, but still, her healing magic would help significantly.

Erza: You may have a point Carla. However, if one of us is seriously injured, her magic could be help us a great deal.

Carla: Well you are going to have to find someone else with healing magic, because she is not going!

Wendy: (shyly) I'm going.

This shock of her cat-companion and Lucy.

Lucy: Wait, you want to fight demons!?

Wendy: You have a point, it does sound scary. But I want to be more helpful to the guild, I'm not some helpless little girl. I want to go, I want to help my friends.

Natsu, Erza, Happy, Gray, and Mira all smiled at her determination, Natsu couldn't help but notice the fire in her eyes, the same kind in both his and Gajeel's. He liked to call it, the 'Will of the Dragon'.

Carla sighed, she knew once Wendy made up her mind, there was no stopping her.

Carla: Very well, child. Then I will come with you to make sure you stay out of harm's way.

Wendy: (smile) Okay.

Erza: Very well, that leaves just one.

All eyes directed to a certainly blonde female, said female had sweat pouring from her head like a fountain.

Lucy's mind: Fighting demons? Not the best idea for a job. Oh, who am I kidding, it sounds like a total nightmare!

She imagined herself screaming and being chased by a dozens of demons.

Lucy's mind: These things would probably eat me alive.

She then imagined herself tied-up over a camp-fire and being turned by the demons like a rotisserie, with an apple in her mouth.

Lucy's mind: But I need to pay may my rent, and there aren't that many jobs available. Guess I got no choice.

Lucy resigned herself, and tried to bring up a fake smile, despite being scared.

Lucy: Okay, I'm in.

Erza could see through her fake-smile, but was still impressed she took the job despite being afraid.

Erza: Very well then, we accept the job.

Natsu: (cracked his knuckles) This is awesome. Time to put some hurt on some demons. I'm all fired-up now!

Meanwhile, in a certain shop. A teenage boy with short, dark brown black hair with six dyed red streaks and red eyes sat at the desk with his feet on the table, while eating a strawberry sundae.

His shop was pretty empty, he was the only person in it. He sat there after finishing the sundae, waiting for something. But what?

He then looked at a photo of his mother Summer, his stepdad Taiyang or Tai for short, his step sister Yang, and his half-sister Ruby.

???: (thoughts) Ruby, Yang, Dad, Mum, I wished we stayed like this. Because I guess you can't always get what you want, can you?

Just then, we get an answer as his phone rings. He kicks the phone a bit, causing it to fly into his hands. He answers.

???: Devil May Cry. (listened to what the caller have to say) Oh? How many demons? (listened more) That many huh? So when does this take place? (listened again) Okay, so how much am I expecting?

He listened more as the caller spoke, it made him almost stumble as he heard the reward.

???: 10,000,000 Jewels?! (quickly regained his poser) Okay, you got it. I'll take care of it.

He hung up the phone.

???: Who's that from?

The boy looked and saw a a girl with a pale complexion and blue eyes approaching him. She wears a blue hoodie with an orange body, which she keeps up over her head while on missions, hiding her short brown hair. She has three necklaces, the longest having a silver pendant, and wears denim short-shorts, along with thick, knee-high socks and brown boots. She has a stencil tube slung over her back, used in her tagging with spray paint that hangs off of her waist. She has several mystic-designed tattoos on her arms and forehead.

Boy: Someone asking me for a job. It's for slaying demons.

Hoodie girl: And how much is the reward?

Boy: 10,000,000 Jewels.

Hoodie girl: (shocked) Holy shit! They're gonna give us that much money?!

Boy: I know. I'm just as surprised as you are.

Hoodie girl: (smiles) Well, good luck with that Y/N.

Y/N: (smiles) Thanks Kat.

He then got up, thinking he could use a walk around town. He grabbed his jacket and his sword as Y/N tossed up Rebellion and spun his coat around. He slipped his arms through the sleeves and clipped it before catching my sword.

With that, he left the shop.

Y/N: (thoughts)  With that kind of money, I could clear out a lot of debts. Sounds like it's gonna be one hell of a party.

Prologue ended.

What do you think of this prologue? This is for my own arc. This takes place after the Oracion Seis Arc of Fairy Tail and around RWBY Volume 4.

You could its similar to the Vergil Arc on Fairy May Cry, but with big differences. You'll see what I mean. Expect some action and funnies in the upcoming chapter.

Let me know what you guys think at the comments below, peace out and enjoy!
