Chapter 4
Chapter 4- (Y/N) Alone
"You know, maybe this wasn't such a good idea," You told yourself as you walked around the woods, a little lost since you didn't have a map.
"Worse of all, I'm going to get found if I wear this dress," You pulled the sleeves of your fancy dress, and turned your head back to see the distant Fire Nation.
"I should go back," You simply said and turned, but then you slapped yourself.
"Are you crazy?! You just snuck off in the middle of the night, took a dagger, knocked out a Fire Nation Guard, and then escaped from not only the palace, but from the royal family! Full of firebenders!" You scolded yourself.
"Not only that, you cut off your hair as a symbol of no longer belonging to anyone! What would they do if they saw this?!" You gripped your hair.
"But yet again, if I do go back, I could beg for forgiveness just like what they want! They like it when people beg! Granted, I would forever be watched by guards and never leave their side! Or Azula's side, or by Zuko's, or Mai's, or Ty Lee's," You trailed off.
"Nevertheless, if I go back now, I would still have a chance of not getting punished! Besides, I look hot with my hair like this! My "fiancés" would think I look hot too," You told yourself.
"But yet again, I've gone this far, so why should I just bail? An (L/N) never bails!" You huffed and crossed your arms.
"Who cares? Being in the arms of the royal family sounds lovely and amazing!"
"But having freedom is better!"
"Living like royals doesn't sound bad!"
"You're going to be married at Sozin's comet! At age 13!! What the Roku (Y/N)?!"
"Don't patronize me!! I am just very lost at the moment! Figuratively, and literally!!"
"Oh, sorry your majesty, I didn't realize having rational thoughts made me patronizing!!"
"Who needs rational thoughts when you could just be in delusional love with someone??"
"I'm going to need you to stop being weird (Y/N), and go find Twig, because this is what happens when you're alone!!"
"What happens when I'm alone, (Y/N)?!"
"You start to talk to yourself and lose any shred of sanity!!"
"And how do you know?!"
"..."
"...Right..." You clicked your tongue and crossed your arms.
"Now I just realized I am fully alone, and..." You stopped, falling to the side and closing your eyes. Tears filled your eyes as you were stressed, lost, and alone.
"Dammit..." You hissed, wiping tears away.
"I need to go back... at least I have someone," You mumbled, but shook your head.
"No, keep going," You said and stood up.
"But first," Gripping your dress, you seeing it all dirty and ripped at the edges.
"I gotta get some new clothes,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You peaked your head over a bush, looking around before you spotting a small house with clothes hanging on rope. You took the opportunity of the lack of people around to sneak up and grab some clothes that seemed cool.
"Nice," You grinned, running off to find a place to change. It made you feel comfortable, and although it shows some skin around your stomach, you grew more confident about your body over the months.
"I look hot," You smirked, seeing yourself in the reflection of a pond.
"Hell yeah you do," Your reflection said, and you winked, before pulling your cloak up.
"Now let's get going before I fully lose my mind,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look there, a village," You said happily as you see one in the mountain hills. Seeing that there are Fire Nation guards in, you thought it was perfect for you to blend in. Pulling your hood up, you walked through the town, dodging anyone that you could bump into.
"Psst," You heard someone say, and you turned your head to see a boy, in Earth Kingdom clothing with medium black hair.
"Can you get that bag of money? That guard stole it from us because we were mocking him," He whispered to you, and you turn to see a Fire Nation guard with a money bag on his belt.
You shrugged, walking beside him and "accidentally"
"What it kid," He snarled, and you timidly apologized, walking around the houses and back to the boy.
"Here," You tossed the bag you grabbed and the boy smiled.
"Woah! I didn't actually think you'll help!" The boy said in awe.
"I won't be here for long, so why not?" You shrugged, and the boy stood up.
"Anyways, I'm Sun. What's your name?" He asked you, holding his hand out.
"...Mako," You bluntly said, and Sun furrowed his eyebrows.
"That sounds like a boy's name," He stated, and you crossed your arms.
"You got a problem with it?" You asked in a stern tone, making him gulp and take a step back.
"N-no... Sorry for sounding rude," He mumbled, bowing slightly. You just chuckled and ruffled his hair.
"I'm just messing with you Sun, it may be a male name, but I was named after a very very very old friend," You said, looking around.
"Guess so," Sun said as he motioned you to follow him and opening a box.
"You could stay here for the night if you like. No one bothers me here," He told you and you hummed.
"Thanks Sun, I appreciate it," You said while pulling back your hood down.
"You drank before?" He asked you, pulling out a bottle.
"I'm 13,"
"... Sooooooooooooo, is that a yes?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Just don't get me started on those damn people on telling me what to do!" You laughed out loud, hiccuping as you took another swig of the drink. Sun giggled as he was too intoxicated.
"Yeah! Screw the authorities! Ha!" He bristled out laughing as you snickered.
"You know Sun, you're a great guy to hang out with," You hiccuped, giving the boy a dopey grin. He smiled too, eyes droopy from the drinks you all had.
"Thanks Mako, I appreciate it. Normally, most people don't get near me because of my bending," Sun sighed sadly and looked down, and you tilted your head.
"What's your bending anyways?" You slurred, yawning from the drinks you had.
"Well... promise me you could keep a secret," He whispered, yet in a loud tone. You nodded, curious and drunk.
"I... can bend lava,"
"...Oh sweet, me too,"
"...What?" Sun asked, dumbfounded at your genuine smile.
"I said, me too, I could bend lava too," A dopey smile grew as the alcohol started to kick in more.
"Hmmm... prove it," Sun said with a raised eyebrow and arms crossed.
"You want me to prove it?" You said daringly and the boy nodded.
"Well... Check, this out!" You grabbed small rocks and turned it into lava, spinning it into a circle in your hands, and gave him a big smile. He awkwardly stood there, but then gasped.
"You could teach me how to master la-" You quickly slammed your hand against his mouth as blankly stared at him.
"As much as I'm glad to find someone like me, I don't want others to know," You hiccuped, before letting go. Sun nodded as you sat down, the boy sitting next to you.
"I wish I could, but I'm not the best teacher," You mumbled.
"Well, did you had a teacher that you learned it from?" Sun asked, but you shook your head.
"I bended lava ever since I was small, and throughout the years, I've learned to control it. A lot of trial and errors, and I've managed to become the greatest lavabender in the world," You mumbled,
"Woah..." Sun breathed out, starry eyes.
"When did you get yours?" You asked as you laid on your back.
"A few months, I still can't control it even if I try my hardest," He sighed and hugged his knees together.
"How'd you do it?" Those words made you think, how did you manage to master lavabending?
"Through guilt I guess," You shrugged as Sun laid beside you, and you both looked into the stars.
"The scars I bare? I was the one who caused them,
I made these scars on my body because I felt regret and remorse on me hurting someone I loved," You confessed, looking up to Yue.
"Each scar was for every time I messed up, for every thought of me relapsing, for everything I've done to others. Needless to say, scars are all over my body," You told him.
"And through every time I train, these scars are warnings to keep trying, and that if maybe, just maybe, if I'm able to master lavabending, then I wouldn't have to hurt anyone else but me," You sighed.
"Oh man, I'm sorry Mako. I shouldn't have asked," Sun apologized, but you waved him off.
"It's fine, you're the only one I've really told this. Do it was nice to release all of these thoughts," You gave Sun a grin.
"I'm honored to ever listen to your words Mako, it's fine you can't teach me, maybe some day the two of us could train together," Sun smiled, head bussing as he was about to sleep.
"Yeah," You mumbled, eyes drooping.
"Thank you Sun,"
If you guys don't know, Sun is the first non-avatar lavabender in the Avatar comics, existing before Bolin and Ghazan. A little younger in this book since he appears after the war, but now he knows he's not alone!
And here's a little cover for this chapter, I'm not good at making background art.
Stay healthy and stay tune!
