Chapter 35
Chapter 35- Found Family Needing A Divorce
Standing where the lake bed the underground sewer, Toph bended the hatch up to the surface, but it was gone.
"Oh no," You mumbled, rubbing your temple in frustration.
"The Dai Li must've known we were coming and destroyed the evidence!" Katara explained to the king.
"That seems awfully convenient," He mumbled suspiciously.
"Hey, if anything, this proves the conspiracy exists even more," Sokka retorted.
"Long Feng was right. This was a waste of time," The king sighed and turned around.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm going back to the palace," As he walked away, you had an idea.
"What about the wall, even with earthbenders, there were witness they needed to silence, so it must still be there," You told them, and Aang smiled.
"Yeah!" Aang jumped over to the king and stood in front of him.
"If you come with us to the Outer Wall, we can prove to you that the secret war is real," He said to the king.
"No Earth King has ever been to the Outer Wall. I don't have any more time for this nonsense," He huffed and continued to walk away, but then Sokka piped in.
"If you come with us, this time you can ride on Appa,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"First time flying?" Toph asked the king as he yelped in fear.
"It's both thrilling and terrifying!" He smiled, which made Toph nod.
"Yeah, I hate it too," She grinned as you held onto her so she won't slip.
"I have to be honest with you: part of me really hopes that what you're telling me about this war isn't true," The king confessed and looked down.
"I wish it wasn't," Aang mumbled, and Appa flew over to the outer walls of the city.
"A drill, huh? Seems scary that this happened and no one else knew," Your sister said, and you sighed.
"Living in ignorance seems more bearable than being aware of every bad thing," You told her, and Katara pointed down at the walls.
"It's still there!" She shouted as you the walled drill.
"What is that?" The king said in disbelief.
"It's a drill. A giant drill made by the Fire Nation to break through your walls," Sokka told him and Twig hissed at the sight.
Landing on the walls, everyone looked down at the blocked off drill.
"I can't believe I never knew," The king mumbled, just as Long Feng showed up.
"I can explain this, Your Majesty," Twig scowled at him, which made the colony hiss too.
"This is nothing more than ... a construction project," Long Feng motioned to the drill.
Really? Then perhaps you could explain why there's a Fire Nation insignia on your "construction project"," Katara glared as she crossed her arms.
"Well it's imported of course. You know you can't trust domestic machinery," You rolled your eyes as Lonng Feng gave a fake smile.
"Surely you don't believe these children instead of your most loyal attendant?" He asked the king.
"Anyone who looks like you should never be trusted!" You shouted while pointing at him. The king looked at the Gaang, and then at Long Feng.
"Dai Li! Arrest Long Feng! I want him to stand trial for crimes against the Earth Kingdom," He commanded to the Dai Li.
You felt another jolt through your spine, feeling off about the agents.
"You can't arrest me! You all need me more than you know!" Long Feng shouted as the Dai Li took him away.
"Only as a chew toy for a platypus bear," You sister whispered to you, which made you snort.
"Looks like Long Feng is long gone! Ha! I've been waiting to use that one,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I want to thank you, young heroes, for opening my eyes. All this time, what I thought was a great metropolis was merely a city of fools. And that makes me the king fool," The king told you all as he rubbed his head in disbelief.
"We're at war. With the Fire Nation," He mumbled.
"That's why we came to Ba Sing Se, Your Highness: because we think you can help us end the war," Sokka told him.
"We don't have much time. There's a comet coming this summer," Aang said.
"Its energy will give the firebenders unbelievable strength. They'll be unstoppable," Your sister looked at you with fear, and you knew who she was thinking about.
"Don't worry, he ain't going to hurt us," You comforted her.
"But there is hope. Before the comet comes, we have a window of opportunity: A solar eclipse is coming. The sun will be completely blocked out by the moon, and the firebenders will be helpless," Sokka explained.
"What are you suggesting, Sokka?" The king asked him.
"That's the day we need to invade the Fire Nation. The Day of Black Sun," Sokka said with a serious look.
"I don't know. That would require moving troops out of Ba Sing Se. We'd be completely vulnerable," The king trailed off.
"You're already vulnerable. The Fire Nation won't stop until Ba Sing Se falls. You can either sit back and wait for that to happen, or take the offensive and give yourself a fighting chance," You felt your chest grow at Sokka's words, and smiled brightly.
The king thought for a moment, and smiled.
"Very well. You have my support," Everyone started to cheer and hug each other as Aang spun around on his air scooter.
"Your Majesty, I apologize for the interruption," A man walked inside the room with a small bow.
"This is General How. He's the leader of the Council of Five, my highest ranking generals," The king explained.
"We searched Long Feng's office. I think we found something that will interest everybody,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"There are secret files on everyone in Ba Sing Se. Including you kids," Genera How said as he gave the king a small box.
"Secret files?" Aang asked.
"Toph Beifong." The king gave the scroll to Toph who then gave it to you. Opening it, you started to read it for her.
"It's from your mom, she's in Ba Sing Se and wants to see you," You told her.
"Long Feng intercepted our letters from home? That's just sad," Toph shook her head.
"Aang?" The king gave a scroll to Aang.
"This scroll was attached to the tiger monkey's waist when the Dai Li captured it," General How explained.
"It's from the Eastern Air Temple," Aang smiled at the letter.
"Is there a letter for me and Sokka by any chance?" Katara asked the king, but he shook his head.
"I'm afraid not," The siblings looked down sadly, which made you pat their backs.
"But there is an intelligence report that might interest you," The general gave them a small scroll and they opened it.
"A small fleet of Water Tribe ships." Katara said with a small gasp.
"What? That could be Dad!" Sokka said excitedly.
"Protecting the mouth of Chameleon Bay. Led by Hakoda." It is Dad!" They both looked at each other in excitement.
You smiled at everyone's letters, and you sister gave a hug from behind.
"Good thing your family is all here," She said, which made you nod.
"Yeah, everyone is here,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I can't believe it, there's a man living at the Eastern Air Temple. He says he's a guru," Aang said as you all sat down on the ground.
"What's a guru? Some kind of poisonous blow fish?" Sokka asked him.
"No, a spiritual expert. He wants to help me take the next step in the Avatar journey. He says he can teach me to control the Avatar State," Aang explained while looking at the scroll.
"And I can't believe we know where our dad is now," Katara smiled.
"I know what you mean. My mom's in the city. And from her letter it sounds like she finally understands me," Toph said with a hopeful smile.
"Speaking of which, I really want to get back for some missed family time with my mom," You rubbed your neck.
"This is all such big news! Where do we even start?" Sokka asked, but Katara looked down sadly.
"I hate to say it, but we have to split up," Your eyes widen a little at her words.
"Split up? We just found Appa and Twig and got the family back together! Now you want us to separate?" Aang asked her worriedly.
"Damn, even found family needs a divorce," You sighed with sadness, which made Sokka run your head.
"You have to meet this guru, Aang. If we're going to invade the Fire Nation, you need to be ready," She said.
"Well, if I'm going to the Eastern Air Temple, Appa and I can drop you off at Chameleon Bay to see your dad," He told her.
"Someone has to stay here with the Earth King and help him plan for the invasion. I guess that's me," Sokka said as he stood up.
"No, Sokka. I know how badly you wanna help Dad. You go to Chameleon Bay. I'll stay here with the king," Katara told her brother, which made Sokka tear up.
"You are the nicest... sister... ever!" He said while he hugged her tightly.
"Easy there, big brother, though you're right. I am,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You petted Appa as Aang and Sokka got ready to leave. Twig cooed at the bison as Momo hugged Twig.
"(Y/N)?" You turned to Aang, who sheepishly looked at anything but you.
"I need to tell you something. I've been wanting to say it for a long time," He muttered with a blush.
"What's up?" You leaned against Appa, and he took a deep breath.
"(Y/N), I l-" Before he could finish, Sokka came up from behind and threw an arm around Aang.
"All right. Who's ready to get going on our little men-only man trip?" He grinned, which made you smiled.
"Aang and Sokka, I wish you a good journey. Ba Sing Se owes you its thanks. We look forward to your safe return," You all bowed at the king as a soldier ran up to him.
"Your Majesty. There are three female warriors to see you. They're from the island of Kyoshi," He said, which made you turn around quickly.
"That's Suki!" You beamed as Sokka excitedly hopped off of Appa.
"You know these warriors?" The king asked.
"The Kyoshi Warriors are a skilled group of fighters. Trustworthy too. They're good friends of ours," Sokka explained.
"Then we shall welcome them as honored guests," The king nodded. You grinned as you turn to Aang.
"Air boy," Aang turned around to see you hug him tightly, before kissing his forehead.
"Good luck," You winked before going to the other side of Appa where no one could see you and Sokka following.
"Aw, he gets one but I don't?" He whispered with a small pout. You rolled your eyes, but smiled and kissed him on the lips.
"Only because you're so cute," You grinned as he blushed and kissed you again on the head.
"Kiss Suki for me too," He mumbled as Toph spoke up from the other side.
"I'm really gonna miss you guys," She said as Katara and Aang hugged her, and turned to you and Sokka as you walked back.
"I would say I'm not a hugger, but..." You smiled and hugged them tight.
"That would be a lie," You said as You pulled Sokka in too.
"Okay, we love each other," He patted everyone's head as you gave him a wink.
"You have no idea,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Do you think we have enough money to take care of these adorable creatures?" Your mother asked as she petted one of the baby tiger monkeys.
"Just until (Y/N) gets back, maybe then we could make them the (L/N)'s spicy curry," Your sister smiled at her mom, which made her smile softly.
"Oo, I also noticed that she stole some hearts of her friends," Your sister teasingly said to her mom, and she giggled.
"She always did had her father's charm," Your mom sighed as your sister placed a hand over hers
"Even though he's gone, we're still pulling through," She told the older woman, but heard their door open.
"Yes! Pulling through nicely!"
"You know, I gotta congratulate you mother dearest, little sister," Your sister froze, eyes widen as your mother started to shake in fear, covering her mouth as your sister turn her head and pushed her mom behind her.
"You've been living great without me around. And look, your little eye bruise is still there," Your brother closed the door behind him and walked towards your sister and mother, a dark smirk on his face.
"However, it does seem like it's healing," He lifted his hand and fire was lit up in his palm.
"Let me fix that,"
