Chapter 17- A Little Walk With Thoughts

"What's wrong (Y/N)?" Your sister asked you as she walked in your room to see you gave a pout and curled yourself on your bed.
"Dad won't let me bend any lava! He says it's dangerous, but I know how to control it! I've been working hard, and he just tells me not to!" You whined and laid on your back. Your sister sighed and giggled at your childish antics.

"It's okay, dad knows what's best for us. If he thinks it's dangerous for you to lavabend, then maybe you're not ready," Your sister smiled softly at you.
"But I like danger! I don't understand! He doesn't understand what I could do!" You argued, gripping the blanket.
"(Y/N)," She laid a hand on your shoulder and gave you the most serious look she could muster.

"You need to realize that lava, lava is very deadly, and it might not only hurt the things around it, but yourself too," Your sister explained, making you look down.
"You may say that you won't get hurt, that you'll be fine and that you're going to control it, but soon those thoughts will cloud over your mind, and you'll eventually hurt someone," She sighed and placed her other hand on your other shoulder.

"Promise me that you're not going to lavabend until dad says you could, even if it means trying to practice, you'll hurt yourself or worse," Your sister pleaded, giving her puppy eyes that even you couldn't resist.
"Okay (S/N), I won't, but when I could fully lavabend, I'll show you how strong I could be!" She giggled and patted your head, making you laugh.

"I know you will (Y/N), I know," The two of you giggled, but a cough interrupted your sibling bonding.
"Dear (Y/N), would you help mom with setting up the table? I don't want to do it and I'm not repeating myself," Your brother raised an eyebrow as your sister quietly nodded, giving you a slightly scared look, while you shared a cautious look.

She turned and hurriedly rushed out of the room, flinching as your brother raised a fist, chuckling at your sister's fear, making you scowl.
"What is it (B/N)?" You asked him with arms crossed.

"Nothing, just need to talk to you about your lavabending,"

You felt something wet against your cheek, making you stir in your sleep and opening your eyes to see Momo and Twig hovering your your face.
"Either I'm alive, or we're all dead," You yawned and hissed in pain as you noticed bandages on your left arm.

"You're alive (Y/N), but we were all worried," You heard Katara say as she gave you a cup of water. Looking up, you see Toph teaching Aang Earthbending, but he was struggling to do so.
"I see that they're up and early,"

"Both were equally as concerned about you, the blade was three inches deep," Katara said and held up the dagger.
"Hmm, I mean it wasn't the first time I got stabbed," You shrugged and winced at the movement of your arm.

"T-there was a time before this?" Katara asked in shock and worry, making you nod.
"Mhm, about the age of seven," You started, touching the side of your stomach.

"There was this one time when I was playing outside and I heard (B/N) shout that there was a big bug on a tree, and sure enough there was, and he knew I liked bugs. So I picked up the bug to admire it and he jumped out of the bushes and shouted "rah! It's me!" And then he stabbed me... he was 13 at the time," You explained, and Katara had a look of horror on her face.

"Welp, I'm going to walk around, I won't get far," You said, wincing slightly and stood up.
"Are you sure? You just woke up after getting stabbed, I could go with if-" You cut her off by patting her cheek.
"I'm okay water girl, like I said, this wasn't the first time," You smiled and motioned Twig to follow, who gladly did.

"Just call me when it's time to eat!" You are Abe's goodbye to them and walked up the hill to wander around. Twig cooed and his tail flicked on your wound on your arm.
"It's fine Twig, I'm just a little hungry though. Noodles sound good right now," You thought,

"Once we get to a village, I'm going to get the best ingredients to make the (L/N)'s famous spicy curry for you and the Gaang," You pondered and picked up a branch to swing around.
"It's so good, (S/N) taught me how to make it extra spicy, and a hint of honey," You licked your lips at the thought, and Twig made a confused sound.

"Who is she? She was one of the greatest people I've ever met, right next to dad, you would have loved her, a kind soul who also is also afraid of human interaction," You chuckled, dragging the stick across the sand as Twig cooed.
"She... I can't hate her, I never did, even when she didn't defended me during my trial," Your smile flattened as you blankly stared at the ground.

"He... (B/N) made her so quiet, to the point where she couldn't even whisper a single word to me," Twig hissed at the mention of your brother, making you smile again and picked him up.
"Don't worry Twig, once we break his legs, you'll get to bite his throat, isn't that right?" You said in a somewhat cute tone to your buddy.

"Yeah... the three of us, will chokeslam our so called 'big brother',"

"(S/N)... are you okay?" You whispered, walking closet to your sister, who was curled up in a ball, weeping silently.
"Y-yes (Y/N), honey... I'm o-okay," She managed to say, a small smile showed on her bruised face, making you huff out.

"No you're not! (B/N) hit you, and he was very mean to you!" You crossed your arms, making her look down.
"Mama hasn't come out of her room since forever, it's up to me to take care of you all, even if it means to take hits from him," Your sister mumbled, touching her black eye gently.

Your pouty expression softened, and you went to grab a wet towel.
"He thinks he's strong because he can Firebend, and that he's scary because he's older. But I know you can be stronger than him, and I'll be the one who will scare him," You said while holding the towel to your sister's eye.

"And when I grow up, he can stab me all he wants, I'm going to show him what a true (L/N) can do," You giggled, making your sister gently grab your hands.
"That's the thing... he hurts you too..." She managed to choke out, shaking and eyes watering.

"H-he... he hurts you, a-and I can't d-do anything but let him because, he's s-s-says he'll kill you i-if I intervene!" She sobbed, holding you closely to her and wept, with you in shock at her outburst.
"I-I need to protect this family, but I failed! First d-dad, and now t-this! I-I-I'm so sorry!! Mama is too tired to get out of bed, (B/N) won't stop hurting us, and you- oh Roku, you don't need this!!" She yelled out, holding you closer.

"(S-S/N)... you're hurting me..." You whined and she gasped, letting you go and still shaking.
"I'm sorry..." She repeated, and you just hugged her again.

"It's okay... it's not your fault..."

"It was mine," You mumbled, walking along the outback, and heard a sound. Walking closer you see Toph sitting on a rock, just calmly tapping her legs.
"Hey Laffy Taffy, what's going on?" You asked as you sat next to her, watching Aang dodging a sabertooth-moose-lion.
"Just enjoying this nonexistent view," She grinned, motioned to what is in front of you.

You also noticed Sokka stuck in a hole, with a baby sabertooth-moose-lion cub. Just then, you see Aang throwing the mother creature over him, and she walked away with the cub. You cheered as Toph clapped slowly.
"That's awesome Air boy!" You beamed, making Aang look at you two dumbfounded.

"What? You were there the whole time?" He asked in shock.
"Just got here," You shrugged as Toph nodded.
"Why didn't you do something? Sokka was in trouble! I was in trouble! You could have gotten him out and helped us get away!" Aang shouted, making you awkwardly walk away and bended Sokka out of the hole.

"Oh thank you!" He breathed out and hugged you tightly. You blushed slightly and patted his back, and Twig cooed at him.
"Did you see that?!" Aang suddenly yelled out, making you push Sokka away and look over to see Aang pointed at a rock.

"Let's talk at camp, I'm kinda hungry," You rubbed your neck and you all made your way to camp, where Katara was.
"You found them!" Katara smiled and hugged you and Sokka.
"Wasn't really lost, just dragging a stick in the dirt," You shrugged and Sokka crossed his arms.

"The whole time, I was in that hole, not knowing if I was going to live or die. It makes a man to think about what's really important. I realized–
"Look guys! I can finally earthbend!" Aang interrupted Sokka and threw a boulder, making you smile at that.

"Appa, Appa, I can earthbend now! The key is being completely rooted. Physically and mentally unmovable!" Just then, Appa licked him and knocked him to the ground, making you all laugh.

"Glad to see you earthbend bud, now let's go so I could make some curry,"
