A/N: Before we start I want to remind you that this story does take place in 1980, and I've tried hard to plan everything, the movies and show references correctly.

At 5:00, Faith came over. Mom and Dad were not happy, you could tell, but they still welcomed their niece in with open arms. She helped me pick out a dress, did my hair, and helped me with my makeup. It took all of a half an hour, since I don't have too many dresses, and my hair is straight enough that it'll work with anything.

When I told her about last night, she couldn't believe it. And then when I told her about this morning, she was in total shock. Which, I really couldn't blame her for.

"You got so lucky, Hope," she exclaimed, gasping. I nodded in agreement.

"Seriously, I cannot believe you got off the hook that easily!" She said. I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, you say that, but I'm still grounded for a month," I reminded her. She shrugged.

"At least you get the date, Hope. Take what you can get." I nodded, and then something occurred to me.

"Hey, did your dad or Emily ever figure out that you lied to them about last night?" She shook her head, and put a finger to her lips.

"No, and I don't want them to find out either. Especially right now," she told me. I raised an eyebrow, and she brushed through thick strands of my brown had.

"What do you mean right now?" I asked. She sighed, and I could tell she didn't mean to say it.

"I... have something to do tomorrow. I might be able to get out of it, but if they find out, they might make me go," she explained, in a way that told me literally nothing.

"Okay... What does that mean?" I asked. She shook her head.

"It's not important," she said. I shrugged.

"Whatever. But you're coming over after school so I can tell you about the date and we can do homework, right?" She and I did homework at my house every afternoon, and she usually stayed until dinner or later. Most of the time, Faith and I were inseparable. Like sisters.

"Probably," she said. We talked for a little bit longer as she worked on my hair, then tried to convince my parents to let her drive me, to no avail. I sighed, and we walked out together. At the door, she hugged me.

"Let me know how it goes! Gosh, you guys are going to be the cutest couple!" She exclaimed. I smiled widely at her, and started walking towards the corner of Pickett and Sutton.

When I got there, Eli was already waiting for me. I noticed that he hadn't driven either, and I hoped that he didn't have too far to go home. It'll be dark by then.

"Hey," he said, smiling at me. I returned the gesture, and said hi back.

"So," he said, "Dinner first, or movie?" I shrugged, ready to do whatever he wants to.

"Are you hungry?" I responded. He nodded.

"A little. But I'm not sure there are any good restaurants in this area," he said. I looked around, although I knew the area like the back of my hand.

"There's the Dingo. Not much of a restaurant, but we can still sit down, so at least it's something. My uncle used to work there," I said.

"Faith's dad?" He responded. I shook my head.

"Nope. My other one, Darry. He doesn't have kids, but he and his wife are trying. I'm not sure my family could tolerate many more kids, though. Faith has 8 year old twin siblings. Boy and a girl," I babbled, answering his question somewhere in there. Eli smiled at me, a bit awkwardly.

"Oh. That's nice. I don't have any siblings," he said. I nodded.

"Yeah, neither do I, but Faith is kind of like my sister. We grew up together," I told him.

"You did?" He asked. Then he blushed. "Well, you're cousins, so I'm not surprised." I laughed.

"Actually, we didn't even meet until I was three. She was four, I think, but for a while we all lived in the same house," I told him. He didn't ask why it took so long for us to see each other, which is good, because it would probably be awkward to explain how a little girl who her father barely knew of randomly showed up on our doorstep. Or it could have been an interesting topic of conversation, but I was still glad it didn't totally come up.

"I don't really know much of my family. I just have my parents, never met any aunts or uncles or anything. If I did have any, I'd be surprised if I weren't the only kid too. My parents are older," he said, holding the door open as we approached the restaurant. I'd been here enough times that I didn't even have to look at the menu to know what I wanted, but Eli took a few minutes to decide.

We each ordered a small chocolate milkshake, and when the waitress came back with one large one with two straws, we both blushed, laughing awkwardly. But neither of us had the nerve to send it back, and ended up sharing the one. We made conversation the whole time, although it wasn't the most interesting. I still enjoyed it, though.

Then we got to the theater. Not much was playing, but he still asked me what I wanted to see.

"Oh! Can we see Foxes?! Scott Baio's in it!" I exclaimed. I had loved Scott Baio ever since he started on Happy Days. Eli didn't seem to share a mutual love for him.

"He ruined Happy Days," he said. I looked him up and down.

"Excuse me?" I said. He laughed.

"You heard me," he responded. "Chachi Arcola definitely ruined Happy Days."

"He did not!" I exclaimed. "He's so good that I heard he's getting his own spin off!" He rolled his eyes at me this time.

"Yeah, I'm so sure. What, is he finally gonna get Joanie to like him and then they run off together?" He asked, completely making fun of the idea. I shrugged.

"I don't think it's even been announced yet, really. I just heard it might happen," I said, embarrassed that I had even brought it up.

"I don't believe it. Anyways, let's go see... I dunno, Little Darlings? I am not seeing a movie with Scott Baio in it," he decided. I just shrugged. I didn't know anything about any of them other than Foxes, and I wasn't going to choose now to be picky.

"That's fine with me," I said, taking out a $10 bill and handing it to him. He shook his head.

"I've got it." I smiled at him, putting the money back in my purse. He bought popcorn and sodas, and wouldn't let me pay for anything. Then we chose our seats. Little Darlings wasn't all that great, but Matt Dillon, the star, was pretty cute, so I didn't complain.

About halfway through the movie, I started to shiver. It was mid-April, but still pretty cold, especially in a dress. I rubbed my arms, trying to create some heat, when a sweatshirt was dropped on my lap. I looked over to see Eli wearing just a short sleeve shirt. I smiled at him gratefully, but tried to hand it back to him. He shook his head.

"I can't have you freezing to death," he said.

"I'll be okay," I said, moving my arms faster. But he wasn't buying it.

"Put it on, Hope," he said, smiling now.

"Won't you be cold?" I asked him. He put his arm around me.

"You can keep me warm." Reluctantly, I put the sweatshirt on, and didn't take it off the rest of the night, even when he had finished walking me home and we kissed on the doorstep...
