36. Nineteen Years Later
Y/N's POV
Before we knew it, it was time for the next generation to begin their journey at Hogwarts. Hermione and I were living a very peaceful and prosperous life, all was seemingly well. I was getting better and better and soon I was as close to the old Y/N that I could be. My Quidditch career was successful and I had earned a sufficient amount to support my family and on top of Hermione's job at the Ministry, we were comfortable. However, like all athletes, I had to retire and began my life as a family man.
All our families were interlinked, there were countless dinners, gatherings, Christmases, birthdays, you name it we probably spent it all together. We had the Potters, the L/Ns, all of the Weasleys and sometimes occasionally, the Malfoys.
"Mum! Dad! Hurry up! We're going to be late!" I heard a voice call from downstairs. I looked up from the book I was reading and checked the time, we had plenty of time but I knew from first-hand experience you would want to get to the station early on your very first time.
"Coming Mari!" I replied, before getting up and making my way downstairs.
All my children were already downstairs and Hermione was hastily making sure Steven, our eldest son, had everything whilst Marissa, our youngest daughter, was frantically making sure she was fully packed. Our family had two children, one boy and one girl. It was good timing that our children were all a similar age to the children of our closest friends. Our eldest, Steven Orion L/N was the same age as their eldest son, James Sirius Potter and those two were the best of friends. They likened Fred and George with their playful antics and their laid-back and light-hearted personalities.
We also had a daughter, Marissa Joyce L/N, she was the same age as Harry's second son Albus Severus and Draco's son Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy. Those three had struck up a close friendship in their childhood years that I was sure would continue during their time at Hogwarts.
Our children were also friends with their older 'siblings', even if they weren't directly related we all felt like one massive family. Teddy had become an older brother figure towards our children and Bill and Fleur's kids, Victoire, Louis and Dominique were also very close to our family. Even though we had no legal relation to the Weasleys, we were as good as related - just like how it was when I was a child.
Ron hadn't found himself with any children yet, he had been in a few relationships but somehow they never lasted.
September the first came around quickly and before I knew it, it was time for our youngest child to go to Hogwarts. The day she got her letter she was ecstatic, ready to go to the place where her parents learned it all.
I had an initial worry that my children may have been taunted at when they arrived at Hogwarts due to the public's perception of me, but how the rest of the Wizarding World saw me changed immediately after the release of a publication written about the events of the Wizarding War. The book involved recounts of Harry's adventure as well as the truth behind my role in the war. I left out some details but informed them of the double agent plan and the prophecy and how I managed to find a loophole.
When that publication was released to the public, everyone began to see me as an equal as Harry. I didn't want all the attention though, I was just glad that my children wouldn't be affected heavily by my own actions. I tried to stay out of the spotlight and just continue living my current life, it was just nice to know that the majority of the community no longer disliked or were fearful of me. There logic was stupid though, why would one of Harry Potter's closest friends actually be Voldemort 2.0? Although it may have looked that way at some points before and during the war, that was never the final intention.
The morning was crisp as we arrived at King's Cross and we made our way to Platforms 9 and 10, Steven pushing the trolley with all his luggage on and his pet owl. Marissa followed her older brother closely, doing the same.
"If you need any help honey, just ask your brother," Hermione advised her daughter, "he'll help you, won't you Steven?"
Steven nodded. "Whatever you need little sis."
I ruffled Steven's hair, he was a protective older brother and cared for his younger sister deeply. I knew she would have no issues at school, she was in good hands. Professor McGonagall was the new Headmistress of Hogwarts and the school was better than ever, Neville was there as a Herbology teacher, Nick was there as the Muggle Studies teacher and there were loads more familiar faces at Hogwarts.
"We're here! We're here!" Marissa shouted in excitement when we finally reached Platforms 9 and 10.
"You guys remember how to do it," I said to my children, "Mrs Weasley once said that it's best to do it at a run if you're nervous."
Steven definitely wasn't nervous, he went first and charged ahead - he was entering his third year now. He disappeared between the platforms and out of sight.
"Can we go together?" Marissa asked timidly.
"Of course Mari." I smiled, replying to my daughter.
Hermione took one side of her trolley and I took the other and the three of us began to charge towards the walls. Even after all theses years, I still closed my eyes upon potential impact. When I reopened them we were on the other side. We were greeted by the scarlet Hogwarts Express and the bustle of families saying goodbye to their children before they made their way to Hogwarts.
We immediately saw Steven with the others, talking animatedly to James about whatever they talked about these days. As we made our way there, Albus spotted Mari almost immediately.
"Mari! Hey!" he shouted.
"Albus!" Marissa said happily, abandoning her trolley and rushing over and giving her best friend a hug.
Me and Hermione shared a smile with each other before we pushed Marissa's trolley forwards for her.
"Parked alright?" I asked Harry when we got to the others.
He nodded. "Ron also drove here, not entirely sure how he managed to pass a driving test."
"Must've Confounded the examiner." I said with a laugh, looking at Ron and giving him a wave. He was busy talking to his nieces and nephews.
There was a large group of us there, standing near the train, Harry and Ginny were there with their three children, Hermione and I was there with our two children, Ron was there and somewhere nearby Bill and Fleur were likely to be there with their children as well as Teddy.
As I looked around, I noticed a familiar face and waved him over. Draco Malfoy began to walk slowly towards us, accompanied by his wife Astoria and their son Scorpio. He wore a dark coat that was buttoned up to his throat and for a scary moment, he resembled Lucius very closely.
Ron's face darkened slightly but we all ignored him. Over time we had learnt that Draco was misunderstood and actually had the capabilities to be a nice person. He would occasionally come spend time with us and because I was closer to him than the others, the rest of our group became warmer towards him over time. Ron was still sceptical but that was just him.
Scorpius resembled Draco as much as how Steven resembled me, they seemed like carbon copies of our younger selves.
"Alright Draco?" I said cheerfully to him.
He smiled. "Not bad, although Scorpius was packing very last minute earlier."
"That doesn't surprise me!" Mari chimed in.
"Typical Scorpius!" Albus added.
I chuckled at our kids' antics, those three were a tight-knit trio and although Marissa and Albus spent more time together, they still loved having Scorpius around.
"Hey! Guess what guys!" James announced, rushing back towards us with Steven by his side.
"Teddy's back there!" Steven added breathlessly, pointing over his shoulder.
"We just saw him," James said, looking like he was bursting with news, "and guess what he was doing! Snogging Victoire!"
The two boys gazed up at us, disappointed by our lack of reaction.
"Our Teddy Lupin!" Steven reiterated. "Snogging Victoire!"
"Our cousin!" James added.
"We asked him what he was doing-" Steven explained.
"-you interrupted them?" said Ginny, looking at Steven. "You are so like Ron!"
James continued. "He said he'd come to see her off! And then he told us to go away! He's snogging her!"
I chuckled slightly, entertained by how dramatic the two boys were being.
"Oh, it would be lovely if they got married!" whispered Lily ecstatically. "Teddy would really be part of the family then!"
"He already comes round for dinner about four times a week," said Harry, "why don't we just invite him to live with us."
"Yeah!" said James enthusiastically. "I don't mind sharing with Al, Teddy could have my room!"
"No," said Harry firmly, "you and Al will share a room only when I want the house demolished."
I laughed. "You would give your Dad hell!"
Hermione looked at the time before announcing to the group. "It's nearly eleven, you all better start getting on board."
"Will you write to me?" Mari asked Hermione and I anxiously.
"Of course darling," Hermione smiled, "every day if you want us to."
Marissa looked mortified. "You can't do that! Steven and James said people only get letters once a month."
"Oh your brother said that did he?" I asked, suppressing a laugh. "I believe we wrote to him four times a week in his first year."
Marissa looked shocked.
"Don't believe everything those two boys tell you Mari," Hermione said, giving her daughter a hug, "those two are quite the tricksters."
Marissa smiled before hugging us both tightly. "I love you both."
"We love you too MJ." I replied, hugging her tightly and giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Make sure to have a nice time."
"And keep your brother in check!" Hermione added, giving Steven a warning glare.
"What do you mean? I'm so well-behaved." Steven said defensively. "It's James you ought to be worried about."
We both laughed and gave Steven a hug, despite him growing up he still allowed Hermione to give him a kiss on the cheek before him and Mari caught up with the others and began to board the train.
"Don't forget to give Neville our love!" Ginny told James as she hugged him.
"Mum! I can't give a Professor love!"
"But you know Neville-"
James rolled his eyes. "Outside, yeah, but at school he's Professor Longbottom, isn't he? I can't walk into Herbology and give him love!"
"And make sure to say hi to Nick as well!" I said to my kids who didn't retort like James.
As we neared closer to the departure time, many parents were swarming forwards for final goodbyes and last minute reminders. Students were hanging out from the windows nearest to we were and many students seemed to be looking at Harry and I.
"Why are they all staring?" Albus asked from a window close to us.
"Don't let it worry you," said Ron, "it's just me. I'm extremely famous."
The kids laughed and I chuckled slightly at Ron's antics. He was still the same boy as the boy during the Triwizard Tournament, upset that he wasn't getting any recognition.
As the train began to move, we all walked alongside it watching our children. I waved at Steven, Mari and the others as they waved back, their heads still out the window. We watched as the train disappeared out of sight and the last trace of steam evaporated in the autumn air.
I turned to Hermione. "That's all of them, gone."
She looked at me with a soft smile. "They grow up so quickly."
I intertwined my fingers with Hermione's and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. We then turned to the other three behind us. Draco had already left since he had business to attend to so it was just myself, Hermione, Harry, Ginny and Ron.
"They'll be alright." Ginny said, looking at all of us. "They're our kids."
I nodded. "So, what next? There's so much free time now."
"Maybe for you. we've still got another." Harry said with a chuckle, looking at Lily who was making her way back from chasing the train.
"We ought to get going then," I said, checking the time on my watch, "are we still on for dinner this week?"
Harry nodded. "Same time, same place."
Mrs Weasley insisted on still cooking dinner for all of us and only a fool would turn that down. It was a nice opportunity for us to all see each other. Issac and George were there and they were very busy due to Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes being incredibly popular. Bill and Fleur sometimes showed up as well as Percy and Charlie, my mother would be there too and many more members of the Order. It was a hearty occasion, one I truly treasured.
After saying goodbye to the others, Hermione and I made our way back to our car. I opened the door for her and she smiled.
"I see chivalry isn't dead." she commented.
"Only for you 'Mione." I replied.
I gave her a short kiss before getting into the driver's seat and making our way back home.
I hadn't had a nightmare in a long time and the traumatic memories of the past had been replaced by happier, stronger memories with my family and friends whom I would be forever grateful for.
All was well.
