29. A Misunderstood Villain
Y/N's POV
"What?" Issac said, dumbfounded and gaping at me in shock.
I continued walking towards the library. "It's a prophecy, it's stupid really. For the sake of Harry I'm going to try find a way to bypass it."
Issac followed me closely. "Can you start from the beginning?"
"There's no time Issac, Voldemort's on his way and if Harry wants to kill him I have to die. I need to get all of this done before Voldemort gets here because then he'll want me by his side."
The two of us rushed towards the library. When we got there it was dark and deserted. I immediately made my way towards the restricted section as no book featuring a spell on soul preservation would be easily accessible.
"What book would it be in?" Issac asked.
"Probably the same book Voldemort used to find out about Horcrux or something similar." I replied.
Issac began to scour the bookshelves. It took us both a few minutes to collectively search the place before I found something that could contain such information. I hastily flipped to the contents page, looking for anything on soul preservation.
"Nothing here." I said bitterly, throwing the book to the side.
Issac handed me a book. "Check this one."
I grabbed the book my brother handed me and did the same, searching for the spell Harry had mentioned. My eyes quickly darted through the contents page but alas, nothing on it again.
It was the fifth book that we looked at which produced some results. There was a section on the so-called Soul Preservation charm. I hastily flipped to the page and I read the page aloud.
"The Soul Preservation Charm is an extremely complex incantation that has only ever been used twice. The idea of the spell is that the caster directs their soul into an so that once they die, their soul is transported into the chosen object. After they have died, an elected member chosen beforehand can redirect the soul back into the original body, thus essentially reincarnating them after death."
"Great, so not only is it complicated it's only worked twice." Issac sighed.
I looked at him. "It's worth a shot."
"How do you do it?"
I continued reading the page. "In order to perform this spell, the caster must use the incantation 'Anima Aeterna Est' and recite it five times, pointing their wand at their chosen object. The object must be memorable to the individual otherwise the spell will not work. In order to elect the individual, the caster must think about whom they would like to revive them whilst performing the spell."
"That doesn't sound impossible." Issac commented.
"The caster must be warned that," I carried on, "this spell brings about consequences that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. If they are successfully resurrected, there are conditions they must abide by. Given the fact they have had another chance at life, they will be prohibited from any form of murder. Should the caster murder any living thing, their soul will be revoked from their body and they will thus die."
Issac spoke. "Well, I suppose not having to kill anyone isn't the hardest thing in the world."
I grimaced, murder had unfortunately become my method of dealing with problems. If there was someone giving me grief, someone who had done wrong in my eyes I would simply remove them from existence. However, if all went to plan, hopefully I could live in a world where murder wasn't necessary.
"Is there any more?" Issac asked. "How do you resurrect them?"
I read aloud the final section of the page. "In order to restore the caster's soul to their original body, the object must be placed over their heart and the incantation 'Anima Et Corpus' must be recited."
"I just realised something," Issac said quickly, "all the myths about the Resurrection Stone, they talk about how they don't truly bring someone back. How there is no way to bring someone back from the dead."
I sighed, it was true. How could you properly bring someone back. I scoured the page to find any mention of potential side effects. "There's something here about it. Although it has been told that it is impossible to fully bring someone back from the dead, the spell can avoid such complications. It is simply separating the soul from the body temporarily before rejoining them together again. However, any potential issues that may arise from this spell would be less likely if the individual who is tasked with reuniting the caster's body and soul loves the caster. True love surpasses all."
I looked up from the page and to Issac who seemed to be in deep thought.
"You might as well give it a go." he said to me.
I sighed, I had already accepted death but others seem to want me to fight. "I suppose."
I stood up and looked at Issac. "We'll give it a shot in a minute, I know what object I want to use. I just need to go find someone, can you wait here for me?"
My brother nodded. "I'll be right here."
I left the library and started running towards where I knew people would be. In the distance I spotted Neville and Seamus.
"Neville!" I shouted, rushing towards him. "Neville! Have you seen Hermione?"
Neville turned around to me and although there was a hint of distrust, he still answered me. "Dunno, last time I heard from her she was going somewhere with Ron. I think they mentioned something about the Chamber of-"
"Thank you Neville!" I said whilst rushing off. I was in such a rush that I didn't even get a chance to process jealousy at the fact Ron was with Hermione. I rushed into the abandoned girls' bathroom and saw the open entrance into the Chamber. Without a second thought, I slid down and navigated my way into the main Chamber that I was all too familiar with.
From the distance I could hear voices that I made out to be Ron and Hermione.
"I didn't expect it to be like this." I could hear Hermione say.
"What did you expect it to be like?" asked Ron's voice.
"Not this."
I jogged into the main Chamber and saw the two of them with a Basilisk fang in Ron's hand and the Hufflepuff cup in Hermione's hand.
"Y/N!" Hermione exclaimed before running over to me and engulfing me in a hug. I hugged the girl tightly and looked over at Ron who seemed to be seething in rage.
"What's going on here?" I asked.
"Hermione was just about to destroy the Horcrux." Ron said bluntly.
I looked at him and then at Hermione. "Don't let me stop you."
I watched proudly as Hermione made her way back over to where Ron was and took the Basilisk's fang. Her hand was trembling as she raised her arm, she was still for a moment before she knifed down, the fang impacting the cup and destroying it. The cup tumbled into the water around them, sizzling as it made contact. It was suspended in the air before it exploded over Ron and Hermione - drenching the two of them in water.
"You did it." Ron said breathlessly. "You did it!"
He made a move towards Hermione but I let out a loud cough. He stopped and turned and looked at me, obvious anger radiating from him. I made my way towards Hermione and wrapped her in my arms.
"You did it 'Mione! That was so smart, with the fang-"
"-which was my idea." Ron interjected.
I ignored Ron and proceeded to kiss Hermione passionately, infinitely proud of her. With or without me in her life, I knew she was destined to accomplish big things. Hermione kissed me back with the same passion and when we pulled away, I found that I was now also slightly drenched.
I didn't get a chance to enjoy the moment as I felt a hand on my shoulder pulling me away before I was met with Ron's fist to my face.
"Ron!" Hermione shrieked.
"What the fuck Ron!" I yelled, my hand clutching my jaw.
"Who the hell do you think you are." Ron said bitterly before coming at me again with more punches. I tried to block them as I didn't want to hit my oldest friend. However, the more he attacked me the angrier I got. This lead to me sending a punch across his face that sent him flying back and ending up sprawled on the floor.
"Stop it!" Hermione yelled, tears in her eyes.
"What the hell is your problem?" I spat at Ron.
He glared at me. "You! You're the problem! You waltz into our lives every now and then and ruin everything. You think you're so privileged because Dumbledore picked you for some stupid mission or because your You-Know-Who's grandson but guess what! You're a pathetic piece of shit who cowers away from all his problems!"
"And what gives you the right to say that?" I said angrily, feeling myself get angrier and angrier.
"He doesn't mean that Y/N!" Hermione said pleadingly. "You don't mean that Ronald!"
"I do mean that!" Ron countered. "Look at us Hermione, we were in such a good place and then he came back and ruined everything we had!"
I looked at them in disbelief. "Excuse me? What?"
Even Hermione looked shocked. "What good place? Ron...what are you talking about."
Ron, still on the floor, answered. "I thought....well I thought you might've liked me. After you and Nick broke up-"
"-Ronald Weasley, I have never liked you nor seen you in any way other than my friend." Hermione interjected.
I couldn't help but feel slightly bad for Ron, he looked so defeated as those words came out of Hermione's mouth.
"But-"
"I have only ever liked two people. I liked Nick briefly but it's always been Y/N. I love him."
Hearing those words come out of Hermione filled me with such joy as I looked at her. I loved her too.
"Why do you love him? He's a villain!" Ron confronted, obviously angered by Hermione's rejection.
He pointed at me angrily, but I merely looked at him with no expression.
Hermione looked at Ron tearfully. "A hero would sacrifice you for the world while a villain would sacrifice the world for you."
Hearing these words from Hermione caused a wave of emotion to flood through me and evidently my face as I displayed a mixture of sadness and anger. Before I knew it, I was yelling at Ron, my eyes glistening slightly.
"I may be a villain in your eyes Ron and that's fine with me, so be it. But when a villain is in love with someone the other person is never the second choice. They've lost everything so that person is all they have left. Hermione is all I have left Ron. She's all I've got, she's the only thing saving me right now. I know I've done bad things and I know I'm a bad person and I don't deserve her but I still love her nonetheless and there's nothing you can do to change that."
After speaking, I felt a single tear roll down my cheek. I hadn't experienced this much emotion in a very long time. For the longest time I was numb to everything, until now.
"Congratulations on destroying the Horcrux." I said bitterly.
And with that, I turned around and walked off.
Back to Issac and back to my inevitable death.
