Chapter Seven

~Emi's POV~

"Laundry!" I woke in a panic after having a dream where I'd somehow been shrunken down in size and ran through a washing machine. As I sat up, I realized I was tucked into bed, but I didn't remember putting myself to bed. I wasn't in my pajamas; All Might must have put me to bed after our long day yesterday. I faintly remembered him carrying me to bed but it was a little fuzzy.

My heart dropped as I realized I hadn't done the laundry yesterday, I had to finish the laundry otherwise I wasn't doing my job, which would be an inconvenience to All Might. I scrambled out of bed in a hurry and moved quickly toward the door. A quick glance over my shoulder at my glow in the dark alarm clock told me it was just shy of five in the morning. All Might would be waking up soon for his morning training. I had to hurry!

As quickly and quietly as I could, I pulled open my door and bolted out of my room. My foot collided into something solid and I let out a muted yelp as I nosedived toward the floor. The door across the hall opened and, in the next instant, strong arms encircled me catching me before I could smack face first into the floor. My heart started to race erratically in my chest as I found myself being held tightly against a taut torso.

"Emi, are you alright?" All Might asked worried.

My entire body was consumed by the flames of embarrassment as I realized he was shirtless and I found myself being pressed against his naked torso. I managed a nod, incapable of speech. All Might gently set me on my feet and placed a firm hand on my shoulder to steady me as I swayed a little, mostly from embarrassment and my desperate need to look anywhere but at him.

I bowed my head hiding my bright red face behind my ashen brown hair, "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."

"I was already awake," he reassured me with a smile. His smile turned somewhat sheepish and he looked momentarily guilty, "I should be the one apologizing. It's my fault you tripped."

At his admission of guilt, I chanced a glance at what had felled me and spotted a laundry basket with a neat stack of my freshly cleaned laundry. He did my laundry? I wasn't doing my job properly and he felt like he had to step in to help even though he already had so much on his plate. He was the number one hero and it was my job to make his home life easier and here he was doing MY laundry.

"I'm really sorry, Toshinori." I bowed my head lower feeling sick with guilt for inconveniencing him, "I'll try not to be a burden agai-." I cut off with a squeak as he caught me by the chin and tilted my face upward, forcing me to meet his gaze.

"You have nothing to apologize for, you've done so much to help me out, I thought it was the least I could do." He smiled. My heart fluttered in my chest.

"Thank you." I responded meekly as I nervously shuffled my feet only to glance down as I felt a slight twinge of pain in my ankle. There was already a bruise forming where I had kicked the laundry basket.

All Might followed my gaze and a frown tugged at the corner of his lips. Guilt flooded his bright blue eyes as he noticed the bruise forming on my ankle. "Perhaps we should put some ice on that."

I blushed and tucked my bruised ankle behind my other foot trying to hide it from view, "that's really not necessary, it's just a bruise."

"Are you sure it's alright?"

I nodded.

All Might smiled and gave me a gentle pat on the head before stooping down to pick up the laundry basket that had tripped me. He carried it into my room and set it atop my dresser, out of the way. He left with a chuckle as he realized my face was still bright red and I was trying my hardest not to look in his direction at his naked torso rippling with muscles.

He went to train and I hurriedly put my clothes away before exiting my room. I tidied things up and dusted every surface before retreating to the kitchen to make breakfast so it would be ready once All Might finished his post training shower.

After breakfast, we headed off to the various scheduled appearances, interviews and appointments. After my first week, I felt like things were running much more smoothly. I'd managed to smooth out all scheduling conflicts from his terrible scheduling system.

Before I knew it, the morning was over and we were stopping for lunch at a café on the way back to the agency. I wasn't nearly as tired as I had been running all over the place the week before. I felt like I was starting to get used to his hectic schedule and even starting to enjoy it a little. It was fun watching him with his many adoring fans.

Just as we were about to step into the café, I heard screams down the street. All Might tensed before turning to me, "stay here." He gently nudged me toward the café before taking off in the direction the screams had come from.

My heart thundered in my chest as I was gripped by panic and worry watching him running toward danger. I hesitated for a moment torn between obeying him and wanting to help. Anxiously I wrung my hands together before taking off in a sprint after him. If it was too dangerous, the least I could do was help protect the civilians with my quirk.

I struggled to push myself through a crowd of people frantically running in the opposite direction. It was like trying to fight my way through hellacious sea currents, I felt like I was being pushed and pulled every which way as I tried to wade through the sea of bodies. Everyone was frantically trying to get to safety from something, but I couldn't see the cause for everyone's panic.

I managed to break through the throng of people and felt terror grip me as I spotted a large humanoid creature with the head of an alligator causing a mass amount of destruction. There was another monstrous looking creature with the head of a shark and a third that looked to be entirely covered in ghastly scales, it's body was creepily long and slender and reminded me of something out of a nightmare. All Might appeared to have already apprehended two other monstrous creatures but looked to be worried about the civilians still trying to flee.

There weren't any other villains that I could see. I bit my lip and held my breath before running forward realizing what I had to do in order to help All Might. If he knew the civilians were protected from his fight he didn't have to hold back, I could do that much. Activating my quirk as I stepped forward, I crossed my arms in front of me. A giant cube of glowing gold light appeared around All Might, the villains and myself keeping us sectioned off and away from all the civilians.

"Emi?!" All Might yelled as he noticed my glowing barrier engulf the space keeping all the civilians safe from harm as all the danger was trapped inside with us. He landed in front of me as the alligator creature lunged toward me. "What are you doing here?!"

I cringed as he managed to knock the alligator creature away with a single punch. "I'm sorry." I squeaked, "I just wanted you to be able to go all out. You can't do that if you're worried about civilians getting hurt."

The other two monstrous humanoids lunged. I concentrated on the smaller of the two and manipulated my quirk to create another glowing gold barrier around him stopping him in his tracks. All Might easily overpowered the other villain just as the alligator creature got back to its feet after being hurled into my barrier from All Might's attack. I managed to get another barrier around the villains he'd already apprehended. I was starting to feel a little out of breath and shaky from creating the giant barrier and the smaller barriers within it. I didn't normally use my quirk so much.

While All Might was distracted with the alligator creature, I thought I saw something move behind me, was there another villain? Before I could do anything, a hand encircled my throat from behind and I found myself being held tightly against a scaly torso. Did this villain have some kind of camouflaging ability, I hadn't seen him earlier.

"Drop your barrier, little girl." An icy voice with a reptilian hiss sounded next to my ear.

My breath hitched in my throat as I saw the glint of metal and spotted a dagger being brandished in front of me. If I dropped my shields, some of the villains could get away, I couldn't do that. I shook my head in response and the hand around my neck tightened its grip cutting off my oxygen supply.

"EMI!" All Might yelled my name as he finished rounding up the last of the monstrous villains and noticed my predicament.

"Don't take another step, All Might, or I'll kill the girl." The voice hissed again and the tip of the dagger spun in my direction.

All Might froze in place looking furious.

"Tell her to drop the barrier, she won't listen to me." The reptilian man keeping me pinioned against him commanded All Might after realizing he had his undivided attention and he wasn't going to make a move that would put me in danger.

All Might briefly glanced behind me before meeting my gaze, "Emi, drop the barrier."

I shook my head. I couldn't let the villain escape!

All Might's voice softened, "it's okay, Emi." He assured me.

"Do as he says or I'll gut you right here." The villain hissed in my ear.

I nervously chewed on my bottom lip before dropping my hold on my quirk causing all of my shields to fall. The villain attempted to drag me with him and brought the knife to my throat way too close for comfort as he released his grip on my neck to get a firmer grip on me to pull me with him. As the knife pressed against my skin causing a droplet of blood to bubble to the surface, I heard the sound of a gunshot from behind me. There was a deafening sound as the bullet struck the villain holding me, in the back of the skull. The sickening sound of crunching bone and rending flesh instantly made me feel faint.

A scream escaped me as his head seemed to implode from the impact of the bullet and blood and brain matter rained down on me. As his body fell away from me, the knife nicked my throat. My body trembled uncontrollably and I stumbled away from the corpse as tears welled in my eyes. Shakily I reached up to put my hand over the wound on my neck. There was a steady stream of blood flowing from the wound. My knees buckled as my body went into shock.

"Emi!" Strong arms encircled me before I could hit the ground. All Might tenderly cradled me in his arms trying to determine the severity of the wound. He was asking me questions but my brain wasn't comprehending anything. I didn't know what he was saying and I couldn't respond.

My gaze flicked to the blood and brain matter clinging to me and pooling on the ground next to the corpse with its head somewhat disfigured and caving from the bullet blast. My stomach churned unpleasantly and I felt my blood pressure plummet before my vision darkened and I fainted in All Might's arms.
