Chapter Five

~Emi's POV~

I somehow managed to survive the next few days as All Might's assistant and housekeeper, though the housekeeping was far less exhausting than trying to fix the insane schedule he'd made for himself. Luckily, he didn't schedule a lot of things too far out so the following weeks would be much easier now that I was in charge of scheduling and could organize things in a timely manner so we weren't running from place to place for all of his appearances. I'd officially met Nighteye later in the evening of my first day. He was much more polite after our first meeting but I could hear the grave words he said to me every night when I went to sleep.

His cryptic warning led to many nightmares. All Might later told me about Nighteye's quirk. He could only use it once every 24 hours. If he touched someone and made eye contact with them, he could see their entire future. It only lasted for about ten minutes so everything got scrunched up and probably misconstrued at times but big things stuck out and they were always right. After hearing about his quirk from All Might I was terrified. I didn't tell him that Nighteye had already used his quirk on me, it was pointless to worry if it was just going to happen and I didn't fully understand his words yet.

I woke on Sunday morning after yet another restless night of sleep spent tossing turning and plagued with horrible nightmares. I'd spent the entire night watching myself die in my dreams over and over again in many different ways. Stumbling from bed I made my way to the guest bathroom attached to my room. I chanced a glance in the mirror and bit my lip as I saw the sickly pallor to my skin and the dark circles under my eyes. There was no hiding this. All Might would notice, and worry.

I took a cold shower hoping the cool water would reduce the puffiness of my eyes and make me look more awake. It helped but not by much. After my cold shower I changed into a simple floral print dress and stepped out of my room to go make breakfast. All Might would be finished with his morning workout soon and I liked to have breakfast ready for him when he was done.

As I shut my door behind me, I heard the door to the gym open. All Might poked his head out the door. He smiled as he spotted me but his smile began to falter as he noticed the pallor of my skin and the dark circles beneath my eyes.

"Are you feeling okay, Emi?" He asked worried as he moved toward me. He'd learned from my prior embarrassment to keep a shirt on while training so I didn't have any more heart attacks.

I nodded and tried to wave off his concern not wanting him to worry needlessly. "I'm fin-AH!" I cut off with a squeak as he lifted me off my feet.

"You're not fine." He frowned. His eyes were clouded with worry, "you're not sleeping well."

Guilt wormed through me, "I'm sorr-."

He fixed me with a strained smile, "there's nothing to be sorry for. It's a new place and a stressful situation. I knew there was going to be an adjustment period." I felt even more guilty lying to him when he was being so understanding, but I didn't want to talk about what Nighteye had said. The moment I spoke of it, it would become too real.

I nodded my head meekly.

"We have an appointment early in the afternoon-."

"We do?" I paled. "I don't remember making one. Did I overlook it?" I started to panic thinking I'd messed up.

"No, I made it." He chuckled and I blanched slightly.

"Toshinori, what did I tell you about making appointments?"

He laughed aloud at this. On my second day acting as his assistant I caught him trying to overbook some appearances for his fans and told him he wasn't allowed to make anymore appointments unless he ran them by me first. "It's not for me." He smiled as he carried me back to my room.

"What?" I stared up at him blankly as he set me down on the bed before sweeping a warm fleece blanket over me.

"Visiting hours start at 1:00." He said simply.

My heart fluttered in my chest, "you're taking me to see Ben?" I asked in awe.

All Might smiled, "you miss him and you're worried about him. I don't see any problem with going to visit him on weekends, it'll probably alleviate some of your worries and help you relax more. So maybe you can rest easier."

My heart swelled at this and a single tear slipped down my cheek, "th-thank you, Toshinori."

The faintest splash of color flooded his cheeks. "S-sure." He cleared his throat, "now, I want you not to worry about anything and get some rest until at least noon."

I couldn't help but smile back at him. "Okay."

...............................................

I woke to someone shaking me gently. My eyes fluttered open startled that I'd actually slept so soundly. All Might was sitting at the edge of my bed looking somewhat guilty for having woken me when I hadn't been sleeping well lately. I felt much more rested.

"Sorry for waking you." He apologized, "we should get going."

I stifled a yawn and accepted his hand up. Glancing over at my alarm clock I felt my cheeks begin to burn a little as I realized he'd let me sleep in until the last possible minute and had planned on using his quirk to get us to our destination as fast as possible so we'd still get there when visiting hours opened.

"How do you feel about heights?" He asked me with a chuckle as he got me upright, helped me with my shoes and gently steered me through the living area to the open balcony. It had a nice little outdoor seating area and a small garden with seasonal blooms.

"Terrified." I supplied shakily as I stepped onto the balcony.

All Might blanched, "ah...well you're probably not going to like this." He swept me off my feet and I paled as I realized what he was planning.

"Ah! Toshinori! I'm okay with taking normal transportation and being a little late!" I squealed in terror as he moved toward the edge of the balcony.

His rueful smile was blinding, "but I want you to be able to spend as much time as possible with your brother." There was no changing his mind.

I threw my arms around him with a squeak and held on for dear life keeping my eyes shut tightly. All Might leapt off the building and I felt my heart begin to race and my breath hitch with unbridled terror. All I could think about as I clung tightly to All Might, was splattering across the ground below.

"We've arrived." All Might's loud jovial voice sounded as we landed moments later.

I hesitantly opened my eyes and breathed a sight of relief as I realized we were safely on the ground outside of the prison. My body was still trembling from the fear of our journey to get here and I squirmed out of All Might's grasp.

"You alright, Emi?" He asked me worried as I took a shaky step away from him. I was very tempted to hug the ground but thought that may be a touch dramatic and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get back up if I did as my legs were feeling a little gelatinous.

"Can we not do that again?" I blanched.

All Might chuckled, "unless it's absolutely necessary." He agreed.

We made it through security at the visitor entrance and I turned to All Might curiously as one of the guards with a clipboard called my name to take me to see my brother. "Are you coming too?" I asked him.

He offered me a warm smile, "perhaps another time, if you like, you two should have some alone time for now." He was trying to be thoughtful though we both knew all visits were under surveillance, it was still a nice thought that he was trying to respect my privacy.

I hesitated again unsure of where or when we were meeting up. He seemed to pick up on my anxiousness and knew what I was worrying about. His smile grew.

"I'll be here when you're done. Take your time."

My heart swelled at his kindness and I nodded my thanks before following the guard. The guard led me to a private room that had the double-sided glass on one of the walls like they had in interrogation rooms. Ben was sitting on a not too comfortable looking sofa in a bright orange prison jumpsuit. He looked a lot healthier than when I'd seen him last, less bruised and bloodied. His wounds were healing nicely.

His slate grey eyes flicked to the door as the guard opened it for me. "Em!"

"Ben!" I cried and ran to him surprised and glad to see he wasn't in handcuffs.

He jumped to his feet and caught me in his arms as I leapt to give him a hug. He wrapped me in a tight hug and spun around with me in his arms. "I missed you, little sister." He squeezed me again before gently setting me on my feet.

The guard who'd showed me to the room cleared his throat, "you have two hours...I'll bring your lunch in a few minutes." He left locking the door behind him.

"We get to have lunch together?" I asked Ben curiously.

He shrugged, "I guess, but I'd really rather them not feed you prison food." He grimaced.

I cracked a smile, "it can't be any worse than your cooking." I teased him.

Ben laughed a warm carefree laugh that instantly lifted my spirits. "That's fair, a little harsh but fair." He pulled me to sit beside him on the sofa and looked me over. "Are you alright? Are you being treated well? Eating enough? Sleeping enough?"

I smiled, "yes to all of the above."

"I'm really glad my mistake didn't land you in jail...though I guess it's kind of similar, sorry for getting you caught up in my mess and making you a prisoner, Em." He bowed his head feeling sick with guilt.

"I don't feel like a prisoner." I offered him a reassuring smile. "I feel like I'm doing some good with my time and All Might's really nice."

"A-All M-Might?!" Ben gaped at me, "you're staying with All Might?!"

I nodded.

"They didn't tell me who you were staying with just that they were going to have you under constant supervision and you'd be assigned a hero. I had no idea it was THE hero. That's amazing!" He had stars in his eyes. "How cool is he in person?" I'd lost Ben, he was stuck in fanboy land.

"The coolest." I smiled.

"I knew it." Ben grinned.

"Are you okay?" I asked him worried.

He draped his arm across my shoulders and pulled me against him so I was cuddled up to his side on the couch. "Don't you worry about me, little sister. It's a minimum-security prison everyone in here is a minor criminal, I haven't even seen a single fist fight. Everyone here is all bark and no bite. The most exciting thing to happen is arguments at TV time and they all get settled over rock paper scissors."

"Really?" I asked feeling relieved.

He nodded, "I'll be fine here, I don't want you losing any sleep over it." Ben realized I'd lied to him before but he didn't pester me about it. He kissed the top of my head, "have you talked to the police?"

Detective Tsukauchi had stopped by to see me twice during the week. I learned that he had a unique quirk that made him a human lie detector. It was impossible to lie to him; he could always see through it. I'd found out when he asked me if was sleeping okay and I'd given him my usual response to keep people from worrying. He frowned at me before revealing what his quirk did. I'd told him everything I knew from my time being a drug mule, but I didn't know much of anything that they didn't already know. They had my phone that had all the drop sites I'd gone to, the only person whose name I knew was Shigo and they caught him. I never met anyone on deliveries I just dropped things off where I was supposed to and would text Shigo that it was done and leave. I was pretty useless for an informant.

I nodded.

"What did you tell them?" Ben asked me curiously.

"Everything I knew, which wasn't all that much." I frowned, "now I wish I would have tried to learn more at the time but I was too scared...I just kept my head down and did what they asked because I didn't want them to hurt you." I sniffled.

Ben hugged me tight, "no, it's okay. I'm glad you kept your head down, it was safer for you." His eyes were filled with worry as he said this.

"What's wrong?"

"Even though you don't know anything, I'm sure the higher ups knew about you. They might target you thinking you knew more than you did...just be careful, please. Stick close to All Might. He's the greatest hero who ever lived, he'll definitely be able to keep you safe." Ben smiled.

He'll be the death of you.

Nighteye's cryptic words echoed in the back of my mind sending a shiver down my spine.

There was a soft knock at the door that made me jump. The guard had returned with a bag in hand that had a very familiar logo on it. It was one of the takeout places All Might had frequented as the majority of the boxes I'd found when cleaning was from there. I had a feeling he'd set up our lunch, private meeting and extended visit time. Why would he do that for me?

We spent the time chatting, reminiscing, and even had the time to play a few games of chess, which Ben had always been terrible at and decided to make up his own rules. He still lost. When time was up, I gave Ben a big hug goodbye and followed the guard back to the main lobby. All Might was waiting with a smile.

Still giddy at having gotten to see my brother, my body seemed to have a mind of its own as I spotted All Might. He'd set all of this up, for me. My heart swelled. Before I could stop myself, I ran and hugged him. "Thank you!" My face turned a bright shade of scarlet as I realized, while hugging him, what I was doing. I pulled back, blushing and opened my mouth to apologize but stopped myself as he placed a big warm hand atop my head.

His face had a slight reddish tinge to it as he smiled down at me, "you're welcome, Emi. It's good to see you smile."
