Seventeen

I was in the kitchen, making myself a sandwich, like any of us do when we're hungry, ya know, but then I heard Mom yelling and so I decided to give my sandwich to the neighbours dog, 'cause the neighbours dog was pretty chill for a dog, (though the neighbours in general were actually pretty chill), (plus hearing her yell put me off my food for some reason).

Anyway after I gave the sandwich away to the neighbours dog, (and he was happily nomming on it), Savannah then came into the kitchen, smiling at me, obviously trying to get me to smile back at her, (though I was not! in the mood for it that day), (not that I was ever in the mood for it, as I was still mourning my Dad here).

"Aunt Sharpay's here"
"Oh thank God, real life miracles actually happen!"

I ran to the front door, because Auntie Sharpay visiting us was the highlight of my day- no, scratch that, the highlight of my year thus far, (though that wouldn't be hard as that year was a shitty year for me).

"Hi Lacey Lou!"
"Auntie Sharpay!, you're here!"
"Of course I'm here, I'm your Godmother!"

Mom looked... Annoyed to say the least, pissed off to say the most, (though she had no reason to be pissed off), but I didn't care about that, I had someone from back home here that wasn't Savannah, (I don't blame her though as she thought that forgetting about what Mom did to us was the best way forward, not realising that it would make everything worse), (like it made everything so much worse).

Anyway I ran to hug Auntie Sharpay, because I needed a good hug, and she smelt like how home should smell like, (plus I think of her as my Mom, even though she's my Godmother), (that probably didn't help my relationship with my actual Mom here, but you can't blame a girl for wanting a proper Mom).

"You missed me Lacey Lou?"
"Of course I did, I love you Auntie Sharpay"
"I love you too Baby"

So I dragged her to the living room and sat her on the couch, because that's just what you do when family shows up, (that and have a good old chinwag), (chinwag is British slang for a chat), (my Auntie Sharpay was British so sue me).

"So how's school going?"
"It's alright, I prefer school in New York though"
"I get that Lacey Lou, I really do, as I felt the same when I moved from England, though a death didn't cause our move"
"Yeah, that kind of fucks everything up"

Aunt Sharpay then pulled me into a hug, and I felt really safe, (which I hadn't felt safe since Dad died, you know), which made me start crying, (and I felt awful about it afterwards), (because I wasn't the only person grieving).

"Lacey Lou, it's ok-"
"No, (sobs), it's not fair!"
"I know Darling, I know, I miss him too"

Fuck!, I totally forgot that Dad got together with Aunt Sharpay, which made me feel even worse about my sob fest, (as I felt selfish for having those feelings, ya know), (I know that I can't change how I felt, but that doesn't stop me feeling bad about it here).

"I forgot that you and Dad got together"
"(Chuckes sadly), that's because we tipped toed around it for a while, though you saw right through it"
"Of course, you both had those stupid lovey dovey eyes that straight people get when they're in love"
"Your Uncle Ryan says that too you know"
"Yeah well gay people can hide their romantic feelings for someone a bit better than straight people because of this thing called the closet"
"(Snorts), I missed your commentary on life Darling"
"Yeah I've missed it too"

So Dad had this kind of lovey dovey look on his face, (as you could just tell, ya know), he had come in from somewhere, Savannah and I had just finished watching The Lion King.

"Where were you Dad?"
"I was out Savy"
"Were you on a date?"
"Yeah... how did you figure that out Lacey Lou?"
"You have that lovey dovey look that only straight people have"
"(Snorts), of course that's how you figured it out"

Poor Savannah looked confused as fuck about how I figured it out, (I don't know why, but I didn't question it), but it didn't matter as we hadn't figured out that it was Aunt Sharpay, (though I had an inkling that it was her), (weirdly Savannah fell asleep not long after).

"Dad, are you happy?"
"Yeah Baby, I'm happy"
"Do we know your date?"
"Yes, quite well"
"That's gotta be Aunt Sharpay"
"You got it in one, not that I'm really surprised"
"I know"
