Fourty-two

I got myself ready for school on the Monday morning, I still felt like I was crumbling away with all the feelings that I was feeling, but I just did the breathing exercises that Aunt Sharpay taught me, (as that actually helped me with calming me down and all that jazz).

I went down the stairs and had some breakfast, as you do, (that was so Grandma wouldn't worry about me too much here, ya know), Grandma still worried about me though, (because I guess that was just the Grandmother in her or something like that).

"How are you feeling Darling?"
"I'm feeling ok, but I'll probably feel better when the day is over to be honest with you here Grandma"
"Ok Sweetheart, and if you need someone to go get you earlier then don't hesitate to holler, ok?"
"Ok Grandma, I will if I need to do so"

I then walked through the school doors, like it was nobody's business, (ok, I was trying to hype myself up here, but that didn't work out for me), (I generally was feeling a bit anxious about going to school that day, ya know).

Tessa came to my locker, obviously to try and win me back, (that wasn't going to work for her here as I was no pushover), (plus my patience was already running thin from my Mother, which probably was not a good combination for dealing with a cheating ex here).

"Lacey I made a mistake-"
"I'm glad that you realise that, however you stating that isn't going to change my mind, you still cheated on me and that shit still fucking hurts, plus it breaks any trust that I had in you"
"Please hear me out-"
"What and listen to you make excuses, no thanks, look I've gotta go to P.E"
"Lacey-"
"I'm not listening Tessa!"

So I went to P.E, (which wasn't too bad as that was Grandad's department, so he understood why I wasn't as enthusiastic as I normally would be), (I weirdly like P.E so that might have clued him in a bit here).

Grandad did pull me aside just after the bell went, as I guess that I had worried him a bit though, (not that I meant to, but I still feel bad about that), and even though it was just Grandad and I, you could still smell the B.O in the air, (teenagers are kind of known for it though to be honest with you here).

"Sweetheart, are you ok?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"You didn't seem like you were paying attention, and I know that a lot of things have happened in the last few days, but I just wanted to make sure that you're ok"
"Yeah I'm ok Grandad, feel a bit whip lashed is all"
"Alright, I'll write a note for you to give Ms Darbus so you won't get into trouble because I kept you here for a minute"
"Alright, thanks Grandad"
"You're welcome Lacey Lou"

So I went to Ms Darbus's class, as I needed to go there, plus her lessons were actually ok, (at least I found them to be ok, they might not be everyone's cup of tea here, so please don't sue me here).

After that the day continued, (as time has a want to do), eventually it was the end of the day, (which I was fucking grateful for here, ya know, as that meant that I had one less day left of high school), and with that I headed to my grandparents house.

"Hey Sweetheart, how was school today?"
"Not great Grandma, as I want to curl up into a ball and die"

Yeah I guess that hearing that your Granddaughter wants to 'curl up and die' would be quite concerning to hear, but I also knew that my grandparents would want to know if I was struggling, (I mean they wanted to get me a therapist to help me here).

"What's the matter?"
"Tessa"
"What happened with Tessa?"
"She tried to explain away what happened"
"Maybe she thought that telling you why it happened would get you back and-"
"Make it seem like it was my fault she cheated in the first place, it's master manipulation at its finest and I know that Tessa thought that would work I'm not Dad"

Grandma just looked confused about what I had just said, especially the 'I'm not Dad' part, but everything had decided that it was coming out of me in that moment.

"What do you mean?-"
"What I mean is that Dad should have left Mom years before she moved out, yes I love the man dearly but I don't want to be in the same situation as he was with Mom"
"He would have left if he didn't have his girls there"
"Oh"
