09: Voices
Previously:
'A life without friends could be easy but Blair, a life without any friends and all enemies is not easy.'
'You won't do it.' Blair said, not believing what she'll hear.
'Oh darling, we didn't kill Kelly for nothing.'
————
'You killed Kelly?' Blair couldn't believe the words. It seemed too foreign to her lips. She stared at Dr. Donna, as she recalled that night again where Kelly tried to save Blair but she died too. Now that she thought about it, it made perfect sense. No one can enter the Mackenzie's residence just as easily as that person did. Mike once entered and got killed. 'Why would you kill her?'
'She betrayed us.' Dr. Donna answered briefly as she filled a syringe. Blair furrowed before she stood up from the chair and made a run for the door but Ace had already gripped her steady.
'Let me go!' She yelled but Ace only smirked. He pulled Blair's back against his chest and whispered in her ears.
'Steady, baby or it'll hurt.' Then black dots flashed before her vision as the syringe found itself in her neck. Only then she realised how weak she really was as her world faded.
---
Blair opened her eyes in a sudden. She wasn't jerked, she didn't move. It felt like her brain told her to just wake up. She blinked twice—thrice to clear her vision and saw ceiling over her. She tried to sit up but something heftily pulled her back. She lowered her head to see her hands and legs tied with belts that came out of the bed she was lying on. She focused to see she glass over her.
She tried to say something but nothing came out. She relaxed her body and laid back. Closing her eyes, a hiss sounded and when she opened them again, she saw the glass being removed from the top of her. The belts also went back in the bed and she was free to move.
A hand was outstretched into her direction. Holding it, she pushed herself off the bed but her knees seemed too weak that she was to fall but Ace held her still by his hand across her waist and Blair's hand in his. The world spun before her and her head seemed too heavy.
'She needs to rest for a little time. She'll be alright. The chip has been successfully removed.' Dr. Donna told someone instead of Ace.
Adrien.
'Take her back to her room now.' She ordered and without hesitation, Ace picked Blair up in his arms easily. Blair rested her head on Ace's chest. She didn't care what was happening, all she knew that her body was too weak and the world spun too badly.
Once in her room, Ace laid her down on the bed. 'What happened to me?' She asked when Ace pulled the covers on her.
'Nothing much. You'll remember now.' He said and Blair's eyes involuntarily closed darkening her world once again.
---
'How are you feeling Miss?' Blair's maid entered her room and took Blair some clothes out.
'I'm okay. What are you doing?' Blair sat on the bed. She felt much better, now her head wasn't heavier and her body wasn't weaker.
'You need to get ready Miss.' she told Blair.
'For what?'
'I have no idea.' She proceeded to help Blair change her clothes but Blair held up her hand stopping her right away.
'I'll do it thank you.' She changed into the clothes the maid took out that consisted of a black t-shirt and black pants made of elastic material, like swimming suit.
She went to the mirror and checked herself. She was the same Blair who was kidnapped by her own body guard. The girl with the same brown eyes, blonde hair and with same swollen features.
She braced herself as she wore the boots tying her hair in a ponytail and went out of the room. She was sick of this room. Sick of these people but she needed to at least know why was it happening what was happening.
She climbed downstairs to halt before the Ace who was texting on his phone, wearing his swim shorts, apparently waiting for Blair. 'What do you want now?' Blair's tone came out harsh but she didn't care. They had already done with God's knows what with her.
Ace smirked and slid his phone back in his pocket. 'We gotta train you.'
'We?'
'Come with me.'
'I'm not coming. Tell me and don't you dare pull your knife out.' Blair couldn't believe herself how she managed to talk like this and so was Ace.
'Looks like Dr. Donna outdone herself.'
'What do you want?' Blair hissed.
Ace smirked again and Blair strongly resisted her desire to pull the smirk off his face. 'You.' Ace said. 'And because we want you, we need you to be trained enough to do whatever we want you to. Now you can't punch someone with those skinny arms can you?'
'What do you want from me?'
'You really want to know?' Ace leant in and whispered. 'Your /eyes/.' Blair stared into the distance. 'Now come on.'
Ace pulled her in front of a room Blair never entered before. She opened the door to reveal a swimming pool—larger than her two of her previous house combined— in the centre of it. 'Can you swim?'
'No.' Was Blair's instant answer because she couldn't remember if she learnt it or not. She never swam in the life she remembered.
'That's what I thought.' Ace took his jacket off and threw it on the chair laid next to the pool along with his pants and his shoes.
Blair looked away instantly and tried to concentrate on anything but Ace's body that flexed with his movements. 'Okay, your turn.'
'I'm not taking my clothes off.' Blair said.
'Who's asking you to take them off?' There was a splash of water and when Blair looked in the pool, Ace swam in it. 'This much eager to get naked before me?'
Blair's eyes widened while Ace's smirk increased. 'Come on in.'
'No.'
'Listen, I would've pushed you too when you were looking away but I decided to be a gentleman and not do that. But I won't be a gentleman for long enough if you don't listen to me.'
'Why are we doing this?'
'So that you can punch some asses before anyone tries to touch you.'
'What do you mean?'
'Blair, now you are in our world.' Ace said. 'And our world is not quite safe with the booms and bangs so you need to learn to kick someone's ass or snap someone's neck so I chose this instead of training you with other blah blahs.
'Then why bringing me here if you can't?'
'Because we need you to open something. Now hop in.'
'No.'
'I won't do anything if that's what you are thinking.'
'Would you shut up?'
'Just get in now. It's warm or I'll come out and take you in with me.' Ace warned as he jumped under the water and came out wiping his face enjoying himself.
Blair looked back at the door and din't even wait for a single as she ran for it but there came Adrien blocking her way. He gave her a cold look mixing it with a daring look. 'Go in.' He ordered.
'I don't want to.'
'It isn't an option. It's an order.' Blair tried to move out but Adrien held her by her forearm. 'It's for your own good. Go in.'
'What's wrong with you?' She scrunched her face at him but when he lent in with a extremely cold grey eyes, shivers ran down her spine.
'Go. In.' He said slowly.
Blair swallowed as she walked back in front of the pool with Adrien's eyes on her body. 'Help me.' She asked Ace as she took her shoes off.
Ace came forth and outstretched his soaked hand. Blair's hand shook when she grabbed Ace's who gently helped Blair in the water that swallowed her.
Ace didn't mind moving back so Blair took few steps back when she slipped and her head drowned in the water. She slapped her hands to find help but stopped as she heard someone's voice in her head.
She twisted her neck to find the source but all she saw was blue but someone screamed in her head again. It was a high pitch voice, a voice Blair didn't remember hearing before. The voice called for Blair's help but before she could decipher what was happening to her, she was pulled it of the water by Ace.
She coughed, grabbing a hold on the wall to steady herself. 'Are you okay?' Ace asked as he tried to move forth but Blair hauled herself out of the pool and sat on the floor.
Her head spun around the voice she just heard. She squeezed her eyes shut as she coughed and wiped the water off her face. 'Blair?' Ace asked again.
'I ... ' she couldn't find words. Just the thought of the voice thrilled her to bones. 'I can't do this Ace.' She said and made a run back to her room locking herself in.
She changed and showered to wipe off the voice from her head. The urge to remember grew in her body but as much she tried, she coudn't remember.
The door was knocked and Charlie, the blue haired butler, walked in placing a tray of food on the table. 'Are you okay miss?'
'Maybe.' She answered as she held her head in her hands and sat on the bed trying to remember. Charlie nodded and just he was to leave the room, Ace entered with a towel across his neck, still in his swim suit.
'Hey,' Ace said as he entered her room and sat on the chair opposite to her, 'are you,' he stopped himself from speaking and rephrased. 'What happened?'
'Nothing. Water doesn't seem to be my thing I guess.' Blair tried to smile.
'Like weapons aren't?' Ace smirked but seeing Blair's deadpanned face, his smirk faded. 'Ahem, I mean, it's not gonna be hard next time.'
'Yeah.'
'I'm serious.' Ace jerked his head to his side.
'Well, whatever. I need to er ... eat, so if you ... ' she paused, waiting for Ace to understand the rest.
'Me what? Go ahead. Eat.' Ace leant back on the chair.
'I mean if you like you know ... '
'Oh I've eaten already.'
'Sir, she wants you to leave her room.' Charlie told him and Ace almost blushed but he hid it by rubbing his face.
'Oh yeah.' He cleared his throat. 'See ya.' He stood up soaking the chair's seat behind him as he walked out.
'Thanks.' Blair told Charlie who nodded and left, closing the door behind.
Blair huffed and didn't feel eating. She laid on her bed and closed her eyes, recalling the voice, trying to make sense, trying to remember.
She woke up with a growing hunger. She looked out of the window to surprise herself with the image of a moon. I have slept this long?
She looked at the tray that was now replaced with the other one. She uncovered a plate of boiled beans but didn't feel like eating again.
Her mind won't let go of the voice that occupied it for long enough. She changed her clothes into the swim suit and walked to the pool room.
She walked towards the edge of the pool and stared down in the water. If only she go back, she might remember but she was scared if she drown. No one could pull her up this time. Her heart raced in her chest and she swallowed.
'Go on. Jump.' She turned around to see Adrien leaning against the door frame, his hands folded over his chest. Even at this hour of the night, he was still in his suit.
'I don't know if I should.' She bit her bottom lip and watched the water floating around.
'You won't drown.' Adrien said. She shook her head. 'Trust me Blair, you won't drown.'
She braced herself as she stepped closer to the water. Either it was Adrien's words or her urge to remember, but she jumped in the water.
For a second, nothing happened. She heard no voice and she stayed like she was. She was sure she jumped in the deeper part, about 8 foot deep but she wasn't drowning. She furrowed and looked down to see her legs moving about, holding her in the middle. Then she willed to reach the top and she hands obeyed as they slapped the water pulling her above.
She took a deep breath, consuming the oxygen in her body. A smile danced on her lips as she looked at Adrien who had moved forward and was watching Blair.
'I can swim.' She smiled and looked down again in the water, her legs that moved back and forth like a child.
'Yes, you can.'
'That's so amazing!' She laughed as she launched herself back in the water and came out again. She tried to float on her back but she failed and drowned instead. Her body pulled her back on the top again and she laughed more. 'I can swim!' She almost forgot about the voice as she enjoyed her new ability she didn't remember she had accommodated. She halted her playing as a thought came to her. 'But wait a minute, how do you know I can swim?'
'I have your records of your participation in various swimming contests.' He said monotonously.
'Where did you get them?'
'I have researched on you enough.' He moved back and sat on the edge of the beach chair.
'How much?'
'Enough.' He repeated as he looked down on his phone and without any reaction, slipped it in his pocket.
Blair stooped down in the water and came out again. It felt so good to her, how the water was not terrifying to her. How her body could respond so quickly.
Seeing Adrien there, a question popped in her head. She fought not to ask but she couldn't hold herself anymore. 'Why did you kill Kelly?' Blair asked as she made another attempt to float on the water on her back and this time, succeeded.
Adrien looked at her but didn't answer right away. 'Because she betrayed me.'
'So you kill her? Like you didn't trust her a bit?'
'Betrayal cannot be rewarded with trust.' Adrien said.
'But she was your girlfriend. Didn't you love her?' Blair stopped playing in the water as she waited for Adrien's answer who stared in the distance. His eyes unfocused. He finally chose not to answer as he looked back in his phone.
'So you guys do this all your lives? Kill people?'
'Those who step in our business,' he paused and then said, 'die.'
'How can you even live with this much regret?'
'Regret comes when you care.' Adrien briefly answered simultaneously pulling down a curtain of silence.
Blair swam in the water more but the voice didn't return. Adrien sat on the chair calmly, going through his phone. 'Why didn't you sleep?'
'It's none of your business.' He brought his one leg over the other.
'You didn't sleep because of me? Are you babysitting me?'
Before Adrien could answer, the footsteps were heard and Charlie walked in. 'Sir,' he said.
'What is it?'
'Someone's here to meet you.' Charlie said, his blue hair messy on his head.
'Who?'
'He claims his name to be Mike and demand to see Miss Blair.'
