05: Adrien
Blair sprinted happily into the cafe like a five year old child being brought to have an ice cream. She just couldn't stand exercising and the fact that she was a skinny girl whom food would never attack was something that had kept Blair away from providing some health to her body.
Adrien walked as if he was bored but still, from wherever he passed, he turned heads —of women and girls—to himself but he didn't even cast a single look and sat at the booth by the window.
Blair ignored him and looked at the barista to order her favourite beverage. 'Can I Please have one Skinny Vanilla Latte?' She asked her politely and then casted a look at Adrien who was observing something outside the window. 'actually, make it two.'
The barista nodded with a smile and entered her order. 'Anything else?' She finally looked up.
'No.'
'That'll be 6.9 dollars.' The barista said. 'Your eyes are really beautiful.'
Blair smiled but furrowed as well. Beautiful? Eyes? 'But they are brown.' Blair said taking money out of her pocket and handing it over to her.
The barista laughed. 'Once you get home, check the mirror carefully.'
Blair didn't feel like arguing further. She stood there quietly and watched barista do her work. She gave her a small smile and picked up the cups once they were done. With great care, she walked to the booth where Adrien was sitting. 'I got you this.' She placed one cup in front of him.
Adrien looked at her. 'Did I ask you?' He asked bluntly.
'No, but I wanted to. Now have it, it's amazing.' Blair sipped hers and refreshment took over her body.
Adrien clasped the cup but didn't drink. Blair shrugged, and enjoyed hers as she had planned to drink his later but Adrien was simply waiting for it to cool down. 'Hey do you think I have beautiful eyes?' Blair asked in a hushed tone.
Adrien lifted his eyes up and stared at Blair's. 'Who told you?'
'The barista. I mean they are just brown, aren't they?' Blair said.
Adrien tapped her fingers lightly on the table and looked out of the window. 'Yeah.' He said and then quickly sipped his drink. When he was done, he picked up his mobile and stood up. 'We need to get going.'
'I'm not going on a run.'
Adrien rolled his eyes. 'I'm not taking you either.'
'Then where?' Blair found herself standing too.
'Your house.' Adrien answered as he made out of the cafe. 'It's going to rain.' He explained briefly his haste but Blair didn't get it as she looked up at the sky that was perfectly clear of any dark clouds and surely showed no sign of rain.
They reached home by walking through the paths Blair had never happened to walk through. 'We could simply go back from the same path we came here.' Blair said.
Adrien didn't answer and after an addition of ten minutes into the already seven minutes long journey, she was standing in front of her house. Adrien took out the keys and unlocked the door. 'How did you have the keys?' Blair projected.
'You ask a lot of questions.' Adrien said as he threw the keys on the kitchen counter.
'And you answer neither of them.'
'Get ready,' Adrien said.
'Now? I still have one hour to go to work.'
'No, for a movie.'
'What?' Blair turned around from the coat hanger as she asked him.
'We're going to have fun today. No work.' Adrien said with a bored expression.
'No way,' Blair took steps towards Adrien as she stared at him in disbelief. 'A. It's not you. B. If you really want me to go, then change your cold epitome into a happy one.'
'C. Come with me or go to hell.' Adrien completed as he changed his course and began heading to his room.
Blair caught up with him. 'I'm coming.' She said happily.
'You have ten minutes. I'll be waiting outside.' Adrien said as he climbed up the staircase and disappeared out of Blair's vision. She shrugged, she was having a chance to have some fun. Doesn't really matter if she has to go with a plainly boring ass person. She went in her room too, to change.
***
Company matters a lot.
That Blair had understood when she watched a funny movie with Adrien who didn't even smile a little the whole movie.
She understood that when they went to the amusement park and she took the rides and Adrien simply sat in the cafeterias of the amusement park or would wait for Blair to come out so that they can proceed further.
Blair had had all her fun alone. She has been to amusement park a lot of times all by herself and no doubt, she had enjoyed every second of it but little did she was happy with a company that turned out to be boring.
They had dinner and at seven, Blair found herself cocooned in her bed watching a series of Vampire Diaries she had been obsessed with.
When finally five episodes of the season led to half past one in the morning, she flipped the laptop close and flowed with the sleep that came in.
Thirst waked Blair up and rubbing her eyes to clear her sleep-deprived vision, she hauled herself up off the bed and walked out of her room. A strange and foreign feeling hit her as she entered the living room. She shrugged it off, maybe the scenes from Vampire Diaries were appearing as hallucinations before her.
She opened the kitchen door and entered in. As she dragged her feet onto the wooden floor, she immediately turned around as she thought that someone just passed behind her. 'Adrien?' She asked ambiguously.
She diverted her eyes in front of her, again thinking of it as a hallucination and opened the door of her fridge. Looking between the contents, she took out a box of juice. She gasped and tore her gaze off the fridge to behind her. 'Adrien is that you?' A loud sound of glass shattering somewhere in the distance scared her further.
She gulped down and swept her eyes across the room while stepping bit by bit backwards to switch on the lights as the only lights she was observing the room from was the fridge.
Another glass fell in the kitchen and fear trapped Blair's throat from all sides. Her hands again started to tremble but she didn't care as she broke into a run in her room. She closed the door behind her and locked it thrice simultaneously taking short breaths to calm herself down.
She needed to call Adrien. She gulped down the fear in her throat but it didn't work as she suspected a shadow right on the door she was sticking to. It must be Adrien. She told herself. Let him be Adrien.
She dared turning around and produced the loudest scream just as she saw a knife and a man holding it. The moonlight from her window behind the man was not enough to show his face but whoever he was, she knew he was not Adrien and that she needed to run away. 'Hello there.' The man spoke with a gruff voice and began walking towards her.
Blair took steps back as her heart raced in her chest. She instantly turned around to open the door that was just locked thrice by herself. Her hands trembled so much that she managed to open the two locks but when it was the third's turn, she couldn't make up which way the lock would open. 'You know, running away from me won't work.'
Blair wanted to concentrate on the locks, to plan her next move to reach Adrien or to simply escape but her mind accelerated with a storm of thoughts and memories she never wanted to reminisce. Just as she was about to open the door, the hand came from behind and on the door to keep it close. She could feel the man's breath on her neck and the knife caressing her bare arms. 'Baby, don't.'
Blair closed her eyes, pretending that this was still a dream —a nightmare. She tried to choke back her tears but instead they turned out to be thick lump in her throat that couldn't let her breathe.
The knife glided up to her neck and then on her shoulder. 'No one's gonna—' she didn't bother hearing what he was about to say as she opened the door instantly and ran out.
The lights in the living room were still out and only source of brightness was the moonlight being filtered out of the curtains. 'Adrien.' She tried to call him but her voice was thick and gruff. The man was out and was only proceeding towards her. She didn't dare cast a look down at the knife he was holding but rather picked up a decoration piece from the console.
'If I we're you, I won't do it.' The man said. He walked about in a relaxed manner as if he was the owner of this house.
She threw the piece at him which he easily dodged. 'Adrien!' She exclaimed with horror and looked up for him to come down but he didn't.
She moved to her right and away from the intruder. 'ADRIEN!' Blair couldn't keep herself together anymore. A drop of tear slid down her cheek.
'He won't come.'
'Why?' Blair moved to her right further and if she'll move more, she could run upstairs to Adrien who was her bodyguard and was supposed to save her from these attacks. 'Did you...?' She couldn't even say the k-word.
'Did I kill him? Yes, yes I did.' The man answered. Blair yelped in pain as she stepped on broken pieces of glass. The man took it as a cue and moved forth to grab a hold on her.
He placed the knife on her neck and looped his arm around it. 'Move a little, and I'll kill you too.'
'Adrien!' She called again. The knife was scaring her way more than she had ever been. Tears were just around the corner.
'He. Won't. Come.' The man hissed in her ears and soon, her hands were being wrapped by a rope.
'But ...' Blair looked down, feeling helpless as ever. Her helplessness magnified as footsteps echoed in the house from above and soon after, Adrien, wearing a suit, holding a bag, climbed downstairs. 'Adrien! Help.' She begged but Adrien merely casted her a glance rather he looked at the intruder.
'All done?' Adrien asked him.
'Yeah.' He answered and Blair, horrendously looked at Adrien. 'it was fun.'
'Adrien, help me.' She said but he didn't listen. 'You are supposed to help me.'
Adrien looked down at his wrist watch. 'The car's around?'
'Right outside.' The intruder was done with tying Blair.
'Adrien, What is going on?' She couldn't believe her eyes. Tears slipped down her cheeks and her lips quivered. 'Adrien,' she called again in a low voice.
Frustrated, Adrien turned around to look at her but no kindness, no pity was reflected in his eyes. He stared at her and Blair stared back, patiently waiting for him to cut the ropes and save her but instead, he opened his mouth and said. 'Can you shut her up?'
Blair's vision doubled as she saw two Adriens staring at her with their hands in their pockets. She tried to voice out the pain that sheeted from her head to her body as something heavy was hit on her head. 'Adrien ... ' she said again as she fell on the floor and gave in to the darkness.
