04: Three mile run

Her hands shook. Was it a timer bomb? And if it really was, she knew she had the least of time to get rid of it. Cause the clock on the bomb was struck at:

'HEY YOU!' Someone yelled from behind and before Blair could even blink, the device was snatched off her hands and was thrown heftily in the sky that bursted clearing Blair's ambiguity that it was ticking bomb.

Blair shut her eyes feeling overwhelmed at the sudden incident. Her heartbeat raced in her chest, her hands shook and goosebumps crept up from her arms to her neck. What just happened? She asked herself. Her breath hitched, and the oxygen she needed was being shrunk out of her. Her body begged for the oxygen. She opened her mouth to suck in the gas but nothing worked. 'Hey? Hey, are you alright?'

'My—' She crouched down as her legs began giving up. 'My—' she tried again. She hand shot up to her chest. 'My b-bag.' She finally said but couldn't hold anymore. Her chest had shrunken to a petite size that even struggling for oxygen feigned impossible. Relief drew in as her inhaler was placed to her mouth and she took the longest of breath to calm herself. The pain began to fade away, her chest began to relax, and she finally began feeling herself. She opened her eyes and found Mike -the taxi driver- in front of her.

His eyebrows were knitted in worry and confusion but he kept his eyes on her as if one look away and she'll give up. When she knew that she was fine to not use the inhaler, she lowered it down only to see all the contents from her bag being spilled in front of her home.

'Are you okay?' Mike asked.

Blair nodded. 'Yes, thank you.'

Mike shook his head and then looked behind him. 'Who was he? Placing a bomb on your doorstep?'

Blair stretched her fingers and then slowly, hauled herself up so did Mike. 'I have no idea. But whoever he was, he wanted to kill me. That's confirm.'

'You live alone?' Mike asked and helped Blair put all her bag contents back in.

'Are you saying I'm a loner? Yes, yes I am.' She zipped her bag and stood on her feet again.

'I didn't meant it like that.' Mike said.

'It's okay.'

'Would you handle further? I mean do you want me to call police?'

'No, I'm fine.' Blair inserted the keys in the door. 'I'm too tired. I don't want to stay up anymore. You know what I mean.'

'I totally get that.' Mike gave her a small smile and that was when Blair realised how handsome mike was. Surely he was still a little drunk, had his bronze hair messed up in a nest atop his heads and bags dropped beneath his eyes but otherwise, his features was not negligible. A fine set of full pink lips, thick eyebrows that shadowed his steel eyes. His cheek bones and his jaw line was highlighted to a noticeable level.

'You wanna have some tea? I mean you just saved my life. Twice.'

Mike nodded his head no. 'I thought that you don't want to stay up.'

'Give respects to guests.' Blair sang.

Mike chuckled. 'Never heard of it before.'

'How could you? I just made it up. Anyway, come in.'

'Nah, need to get home. Nice to meet you eh ...'

'Blair.'

'Blair.' He confirmed, awkwardly shook her hand and departed in his cab.

She kicked the door close behind her, threw her bag on the couch , took off her shoes, her scarf and fell on the couch. Sleep came in unexpectedly and there she was, swimming in the oceans of dreams.

***

'Get up.' A deep voice came echoing in Blair's ears but she simply rolled on the other side but then she realised that there was no other side. She nearly saved herself from falling off the couch she didn't realise was, by propping her butt back. 'You should get up.'

'Leave me alone.' She groaned as she pulled the covers up to her face.

'I would love to, but you need to get up.' Adrien said. 'You need to have defence training.'

'I need sleep.'

'Get up Blair.'

'Make me then.' She fixed her position by bringing her hands under her cheek and snuggling in.

'OK,' Adrien said. 'Just remember you asked for it.'

Blair murmured "whatever" in her sleep and closed her eyes to continue to fight the demon like she was before Adrien interrupted in but she was losing battle and then, she was drowning in the water as soon as heavy water was thrown over her head that stung.

She immediately stood up from the couch simultaneously hitting her pinky toe with the corner of the table, smacking her hip bone with the handle of the couch and tripping over the covers. She rubbed her face and so her eyes in order to get her view clearer. When the blurriness disappeared , only then she saw Adrien putting the jug back on the table and settling down.

'What.' She rubbed her pinky toe. 'The.' She held her hip bone. 'Hell?' She looked at the couch that was thoroughly wet and then at Adrien who continued working on his laptop pretending like nothing happened.

'You asked for it.' Adrien repeated.

'This is how you wake a girl up?' Blair was beyond furious but she took short, deep breaths to calm herself down. Her eyes swept around the entrance that was clean and suddenly, everything from yesterday came rushing in her mind. 'Where were you last night?'

'Right there where you left.' Adrien didn't lift up his eyes.

'Where? I searched for you but you weren't.'

'I was Blair. You didn't look properly.'

'You're playing games with me right? I searched for you for so long. Do you even know what just happened last night?' Adrien sighed and got up to make himself coffee.

'I am aware.'

'Adrien.' Blair couldn't decipher what was happening. Blair had a faint idea that Adrien was emotionless but this emotionless was frustrating.

Adrien added the coffee from the jar and milk from the bottle into the cup. 'You didn't look properly then.' Adrien took out spoon from the drawer and began swirling the coffee. 'I was right there. And yes, I have knowledge of what happened yesterday. Someone left a ticking bomb on your doorstep and some unknown taxi driver came to —you think— help you.'

He moved forth and handed her the cup. 'What do you mean?' She asked.

Adrien shrugged. 'Maybe, he himself was the bomb planter.'

'He can't be. He was behind me.' Blair tried to defend Mike.

'Oh really?' Adrien arched his eyebrow. The grip on the cup loosed but Adrien had taken it before it could shatter in pieces. Adrien seemed to be satisfied with the reaction. 'Get ready Blair. I need to give you training. I'll be in the study room.'

With that, he left leaving Blair in a trail of thoughts and confusion.

'This is what you're gonna wear?' Adrien had already cleaned the room of all the extra's to give a big space for Blair to practice. Like, the table was stacked in the corner, the side lamp was shifted in Blair's room and the chair was placed in the living room. He was leaning against the wall, wearing a black full sleeves t-shirt that hugged his body to level 10, and black trousers —something Blair never saw Adrien wearing before — waiting patiently for Blair.

Blair looked down at her jeans and her t-shirt. 'I don't have anything else.'

'Don't tell me you have never exercised before.' Adrien leaned off the wall.

'No, no I haven't.' Blair gave him a sheepish smile. 'And I bet whatever you're gonna be teaching me, would be easy. Yes?'

'No,' Adrien shook his head merely. 'Let's start with the basics.'

'Like what?'

Adrien smirked. 'A three mile run.'

***

'Come on.' Adrien stopped midway again and ran reversed to catch up with Blair. 'You can't be tired but running this far.'

'Hello there, ever heard of beginner?' Blair crouched down and placed her hand on her knees to catch her breath. It was untrue that Blair couldn't run further. She could, she had enough stamina, but her shortness of breath would always come in the way and she didn't want to use a inhaler in front of Adrien.

'Three mile run is for the beginners.'

'I highly doubt it.' Blair straightened her back and stepped back to sit on the bench right behind her.

'Blair, get up. It's just half a mile.'

Blair looked up at Adrien's face. 'Are you kidding me? We've been running for ten—

'—Five minutes.' Adrien corrected.

'I can't believe it. I have to run two—

'—Three miles.' Adrien interrupted her again.

'And I have to to keep doing it for one—

'—two weeks.'

'OKAY MISTER PERFECT.' Blair threw her hands in the air. 'You won.'

Adrien pinched the bridge of his nose. 'OK, let's cut it down to two.'

'One.' Blair pursed.

'No.' Adrien said in a stern tone.

Blair huffed and looked around. Her eyes sparkled once they landed on a coffee shop across the road. 'Let's go and have some coffee.' She stood up.

'No.' Adrien said coldly. 'We're going on a run.'

'You go.' Blair said and began walking across the road.

'BLAIR!' she was pulled back heftily in Adrien's arms as a car was about to roll her dead beneath its tires. Blair horrendously watched the driver instantly getting out with confusion etched on his forehead. Blair was still in Adrien's arms who, in driver's sight pushed Blair back.

'Blair?'

'Mike?' Blair released her off Adrien's grip and extended her hand to him who shook merrily.

'How you doin'?' Mike said with a wide smile. 'I'm sorry, didn't see you. Mike.' He extended his hand to Adrien.

'Adrien.' He said.

'No problem.' Blair smiled but her smile faltered when Adrien cleared his throat. Blair looked behind to look at him who gave her the fakest of smiles.

'We need to get going Blair, don't we?'

'No actually. I'm fine.'

Adrien leaned in and said through greeted teeth. 'Don't you dare.'

Blair faked another smile at Adrien and replied in Adrien's tone. 'Coffee or nothing.'

Blair could practically notice the fire blowing out of Adrien's ear as he clenched his jaw and sucked the inner of his cheek. 'No, we need to go for a run.' Adrien said again.

Blair shrugged. 'Ok,' she looked at Mike. 'Hey, Mike. I was wondering if you were free to hang out.'

Mike looked between Blair and Adrien and then was about to say sure when Adrien clasped Blair's forearm. 'I'm sorry but Blair and I need to grab a cup of coffee.'

Blair mentally fist pumped in the air.

'Sure man.' Mike smiled. 'See you around Blair.' He nodded and sat in the car and drove off.

Blair spun on her heels and blinked at Adrien several times. 'Shall we?' She asked.

Adrien clenched his jaw again and blew out a short breath. He began walking with Blair towards the café across the road. Blair felt the happiest in the world and specially when she managed to hear Adrien murmuring to himself.

'Fuck my life.'
