01: Run

Blair, afraid she might wake up Celeste, closed the door of her room behind her carefully. 'That's why I don't hold  parties.' Blair murmured to herself. Perhaps that was the only reason she didn't want to hold anymore parties. Cleaning throw ups, throwing the used glasses away, and calling extra drunk people at their home to give them the address to pick their beloved ones back, was what Blair hated the most.

She quietly fished out Celeste's phone and dialled the number saved as 'mum'.  Her mom didn't pick at once and after three calls, her mum finally picked up but she was too sleepy to even remember she had a daughter who was blacked out on a stranger's couch.

Blair huffed and finding the address of celeste's home from her identity card, decided to not be too kind and let her sleep here instead, she wanted to be gone so she could have all the night to herself.

She hauled her up and after tiring efforts, dragged her out and in the car to lay her flat at the backseat. She occupied the driving seat to herself, put the address in the google maps and off she went.

It didn't take her much time to reach Celeste's home and dropping her off. Her mother received her and her heavy eyelids told her that she was fond of alcohol too and might had some tonight.

Blair shook her head, she had a long way to go. She sat in the driving seat, and drove off without collecting any warm thank you's from Celeste's mother.

Blair turned up the volume of that one rock song she had kept to herself just in cases like these : driving at two in the morning.

She placed the address of her home in Google maps again and began following its direction but her phone would glitch at times. She restarted her route when a notification popped in her screen that there was no internet connection. She finally remembered that she forgot to buy the internet package that was to be ended at 12 at night.

Blair cursed under her breathe. What a fortunate night!

She couldn't just stay in the middle of the lonely road. She needed to go home so she tested her memory that was quite bad in case of keep record of ways and roads, but she had no other chance. Her phone buzzed and a smile stretched across her face as she looked at the caller I'd. She picked it up. 'Hey Daddy!'

'Hey sweetie, how are you?'

'I'm good.' Blair responded. 'You didn't sleep yet?'

She heard her dad chuckle. 'Sweetie, it's eight in the morning here in San Francisco. The real question is, why are you awake yet?'

'Oh, long story short, I dropped a drunk home as I, you're beloved daughter held the party.'  She hit the gas and drove to the places that seemed familiar to her in order to find the way, or even help.

'Oh, So you're driving right now?'

'Yeah, is something wrong with it?'

'Blair, it's too late. You should've been at home.'

'Chill, I'm heading home anyways.' Blair answered as she furrowed. The sense of familiarity that gave her a tinge of hope kept losing touch with her as she again , stood in the middle of the road that was not so rushy rather an alone and a creepy one.

She began looking around, to get help. 'Dad, I'll talk to you later.' Blair cut the call and slipped the phone down in her pocket as two traffic wardens came out of blue and gestured her car to be stopped. Her phone buzzed  but her attention and her focus was on the numerous reason that could make them stop the car.

One of the traffic warden came to her car and knocked on her window. She rolled it lower and felt the cold chill of November hitting her face. 'How can I help you officer?' She asked politely.

'You seem to be lost madam. I should be the one to ask you to help.' He said but his eyes weren't on Blair. They swept around the interior of the car as he was looking for something.

'I'm okay actually.' Blair tried to smile.

'Humph,' The officer hummed and itched his clean shaved chin. Blair diverted her eyes to the other officer that didn't come forward but was standing at the back at a good distance with his head bowed down. The rim of the hat and the darkness of the night forbade Blair to make out his face. 'I'd like to see your ID card madam.' The officer demanded.

'Sure.' Blair fished out her wallet and handed the officer the card.

The officer smiled. 'This is your perhaps mechanic's business card.'

She crunched up my nose. 'I'm sorry,' Blair stretched out her hand to grab the card but it slipped from her fingers and instead floated down on the ground. 'Oops,' she said and she unlocked her door to pick it up but it hit the officer instead who was already couched down to pick it up.

The officer stumbled farther. 'Oh my God, I'm so sorry, are you okay?' She got out of her car and walked towards him to make sure he was.

He stood up and cleared his throat. 'Yes madam, I'm completely fine. Now would you like to show me your actual ID card?' He outstretched his hand to Blair.

'Yes, sure.' Blair searched in her wallet again and felt the vibration of the phone buzzing in her pocket. She handed him her ID card and picked up the phone placing it to her ear. 'What's wrong?'

'Where are you?' Her dad seemed tensed. 'Blair tell me where are you?'

'I'm looking for my home Dad. Why?'

'Whatever happens, don't stop your car if any police warden come and ask you to .' Her dad warned and her heart skipped a beat but she recovered.

'Dad, it actually has happened.' Blair said and as she mentioned her dad, the officer looked up at her from checking her card but lowered his gaze as soon as he was caught.

'How many are they? Two?' Her dad panicked.

'Yeah ...' Blair was so unsure where the conversation was going. She casted a look over her shoulder and found that other guard that stood too distant was now closer to her. When she looked in front of her, she focused on how the officer was checking the card. The light was too less for the card to be read. How was he reading it then?

'Don't give them your ID if they ask.' Her Dad forbade her. Blair casted another look behind and the guard was nearer and the one checking the card was now tossing it in between his fingers as if it belonged to him. His eyes were fixed upon Blair.

'Dad, you know why mom left you? Cause you're always fucking late!' She said and broke in a run. She didn't dare look behind as the sound of heavy footsteps following here were enough for her.

She turned around in a street and hid behind a telephone pole. Her thin facade and black clothes helped her stay hidden as the officers ran far away from her hiding position. When she thought that she lost them, she came out of the hiding place and decided to run back to her car. The path was clear for her so she ran her legs and reached the car.

Forgetting her wallet and her phone, she got in the car and turned on the ignition. She hit the gas and decided no path but the one opposite to the officers.

When she thought she was at a safe distance, she slowed down her speed but her hands began to shake when she noticed a car following her. She skidded her car to the left street and zoomed past in breaking the silent rules. The car behind her didn't slowed down either.

Her heart was in her throat, the blood drummed in her ears, adrenaline rushed up to her and her breaths were shaky. She didn't know here she was going, all she knew was that she needed to escape that car. She reached a dead street and found the car behind her. She instantly got out of the car and climbed up the wall of the house.

She scraped her knee badly as she fell from the wall but considered running. Her legs couldn't run in perfect line, her vision couldn't be clearer but she needed to run. Why? She didn't know. She just needed to run.

When her legs threatened to give up, she just hid behind the tree of a strangers's backyard and behind the bushes and sat down, with her back against the wall and her legs to her chest.

She even stopped her breathing for she saw the knifes in fake officers' hands. She held back the tears, and felt relieved when the officers murmured that they might've lost her.

She peek through the bushes and saw the officers' footsteps getting smaller with the increasing distance. She rested her head black at the wall and took a long breath of relief. I was too close. She thought. But who were they?

She patted her pockets to check if she got the keys of her car but they weren't there. 'Shit.' She murmured. She now reminded herself that she had left her wallet and phone back at that place too.

She waited at that place for a few more minutes until she was sure the path was clear that she got up, and walked to the wall which she just climbed and now thought how would she be going to climb it now? The adrenaline helped her first, but scraped knee and tiredness was useless now.

But she never felt the need to as a hand came from behind ,on her mouth and then a piece of cloth. Another hand on her waist.

'You can't always hide.' He whispered before the world transformed in complete dark.
