Prologue

It was supposed to be a great day. Austin had been planning the trip all week.. only for the whole thing to end up in a wreck. Literally.

He'd properly prepared for everything and made sure not to forget any single thing.

He remembered the flowers. He didn't give her flowers much, he usually went with other stuff to give.. like a book she's been dying to read or cheese cake, she always craved for some blueberry cheesecake. He remembered to bring his guitar. He was planning to serenade her as the sun rises, since they planned to stay up all night. He'd also remembered to bring his laptop and a bunch of cds to watch to kill time. And he'd never forget to bring some anti-mosquito spray for her, so she won't get bitten by insects late into the night.

It was a good plan. Especially for a sixth anniversary date. And everything just had to go wrong.

Everything was perfect from when he picked her up until the point where they almost got to the hill they were supposed to spend the night in.

Now, he's sitting on a wheelchair as he stared at her. She wasn't awake, she hasn't been awake for two weeks and he was starting to panic. This is all his fault. He can't lose her. She can't leave him.

He stared at the machines inside the room, all of which keeping her alive for this long. He wiped the tear that had involuntary fallen off his face. He can't cry in front of her. Not even if she's asleep.

How did everything get so messed up? He thought to himself.

One moment he had a bright future ahead of him with the girl he loves right by his side... now, he'd give up his future in exchange of her waking up from her comma. And the doctors suggested not to get their hopes up.

They say eighteen's too young to know what love is but what the hell do they know? If he doesn't know what love is then what the hell is the burning feeling in his stomach that grows hotter and burns faster the longer she stays asleep? He hated hearing people say that they don't know what real love is. Because holy crap, some days he feels like he knows it better than the rest of them.

But right now he doesn't care. He knows he loves her and he knows he's not going to stop loving her and he knows she feels exactly the same way. And right now, that's what he held onto.

He gently took her hand and kissed the back of it, even now the simple movement made him tired but he didn't care about that, what he cared about is her. "I'll find a way. I promise you, I will." He whispered his promise, hoping she'd hear.

He wondered how she suffered more than he did, when he realized what was happening, when he realized they were going to crash into a truck, he did his best to maneuver the car fast so he'd take the worst of it. But the moment of impact, he blacked out and woke up in the hospital to find out that despite his efforts.. she still suffered.

He still couldn't walk though. Although the doctors said he'd be able to walk again after therapy, he didn't believe it. It was impossible to believe anything and be hopeful.

It's the first time he's seeing her after what happened, the doctors just wouldn't allow him to see her, afraid that he'd get stressed to see her when he should be resting. They finally got it in their brains that not being able to see her was the reason he's been stressed out.

Yesterday morning her parents visited him and told him she wasn't doing better. Today, he found out that she was actually doing worse than they let on. According to the doctors, she didn't seem like she's fighting to wake up at all but they didn't know her like he did. She's fighting, he was sure of it. But he decided she needed fighters from this side as well.

The nurse peeked her head in and looked apologetically at Austin. "I'm really sorry Austin but time's up.. you need to rest." Living in a small town means everyone knows each other. She definitely knew about the 'cute' love story between Austin and Charlie.. everyone in town watched them grow together... and what happened to the two seemed like a cruel fate.

"No I don't." He replied stubbornly.

The nurse finally entered the room and looked like she was choosing her words carefully. She knelt beside Austin's wheelchair and smiled sympathetically.

"Look, I know you want to help her... we all do. We wish this didn't have to happen to the both of you but it did and the only thing we can do now is wait. She's fighting a battle none of us can help her with. As for you, the best you can do for her is get better fast. Because when she wakes up, and I believe she will, you need to let her see that she has nothing else to worry about. That you will take care of her. That you can take care of her."

Finally, everything he's been holding in since he found out that Charlie was in a comma, it all just came out tenfold right in this moment.

He began crying helplessly as he looked at her broken body. "But -I -I can't do this. -I can't get better if she's not. " He continued to cry. "I need her to be okay."

"Shee needs you to be okay too, Austin. Get yourself better, the faster you heal, the faster you can stay by her side all the time."

He kept quiet but continued to sob. As much as he wanted to believe otherwise, he was clueless about what to do.

He wheeled himawlf a little closer to Charlie and kissed her hand. "I promise you, Charlie." He whispered to the nearly lifeless body. "You'll live." Before turning away, he left one more message. "I'll love you forever."

Then he let the nurse wheel him back to his room.

He did get better. After two months of endless therapy, he was able to walk again and was eventually let out of the hospital. Charlie, on the other hand, remained the same.

It fustrated him that she wasn't getting better. Te doctors said that wasn't anything unusual but it didn't mean it was a positive thing.

He realized that he had to take matters into his own hands, he had to do something about it.

It took him longer than he planned to get out of the hospital. He knew he had to get out soon so he acted with full cooperation until he was finally released.

He worked his brains off, trying to find anything to help her, spending every waking moment covered in books just trying to find even a little lead to go on. From this point, he'd believe anything, even miracles..or magic, just to get her to wake up.

He wasn't a believer but for her... He'd try.

The fates seems to be on his side too. One day, while he was using his dad's computer in the study to look for any possible way to save Charlie, he found a book, an old dusty one that his dad must've forgotten about.

It was entitled 'The Dark Deals' and he didn't initially think of it as a book about deals with the devils. In fact, he thought it was about business treachery, since his dad was a big businessman.

But then he saw foul creatures with torns on their heads and eyes that are so dark you'd think it can kill and suddenly he was reading.

The book was very thorough, it told you what kind of demon you'd be summoning how wretched they are but it also tells you how they can help.

Believing in magic isn't farfetched either.. he's seen a lot of weird stuff going around in town and although those things were not as realistic as he'd take, he had to believe it. It was the only way.

With enough research and enough belief, he was lead to the idea of summoning spirits to cure the dying.

He was so desperate he'd believe absolutely anything. One day as he read and read through lores, he stumbled across a myth about summoning spirits to make a deal.

He knew it can be fake but at this point, he'd try absolutely anything.

He couldn't believe his eyes the moment the creature appeared before him. He asked for a reason why he was summoned and he obliged to tell the story, and afterwards came the begging.

"Cure her. Please." The boy begged with a shaky voice, kneeling in front of the unknown creature in front of him. "please, i'll do anything. Anything..."

The creature let out a heartless laugh. "What would I want with a mere mortal?" The deep evil voice of the creature said, "you're weak and useless."

It was an unnaturally starless night, the air that flew around could kill and the darkness was frightening, these were all but normal. It carried a dark evil with it and a hopeless boy was the cause.

Tears were flowing down the cheeks of the green-eyed boy, his hair messy all around as he's been trying to rip his hair off out of frustration, his whole being defeated.

"Cure her, in exchange of my life." The boy begged again. There is no way he's getting out of this with her not cured.

"Now, where's the fun in that?" The creature said. This was just entertainment for him, that much was obvious. He's not gonna let the girl live and nor was he letting the boy.

The boy wanted to kill the devil he summoned for it was the wrong one but he was helpless and he realized that somehow it could help him too. He kept thinking of things he could do in exchange for her life. He needed her alive, even if he's the one to die.

"You know, appearing here is a waste of my time, I can just kill you and then be done with this." The devil thought aloud.

He felt suddenly relieved for the long hours he spent hidden behind books because now he knows how to use the knowledge he gained. "No, no, wait!" The boy screamed, remembering something from a book he read. It might save her. But it will definitely kill him.
