6- The Morning After
When morning came, JJ found herself alone on the bed. She slowly turned around to find her phone charging, placed neatly on the centre of a note. Rubbing her eyes, she slowly sat up.
'Don't worry, I haven't just fucked and left. Even though this is my house. I don't know when you'll wake up and I did want to wake you but you were so tired last night I decided to leave you. Coffee should be still hot in the kitchen. Once you get your cup make sure you turn off the warm. Left sugar out and milk is in the fridge. If you would like, I'd appreciate it if you joined me in the balcony.'
JJ shook her head with a smile as she rose from the bed. She pulled down her night shirt with one hand and grabbed her phone and hairband with the other. After brushing her teeth, she went into the kitchen and made herself a cup of coffee. Just as expected, Neil was in the balcony, laptop on a table in front of him. She gently pushed the door open and his head snapped towards her.
A smile immediately appeared on his face as he extended his arms out. She hesitated before putting her bare feet onto the floor. "Don't worry I make sure the floor is clean. Now come here and sit with me." Slowly, she lowered herself down onto Neil's lap, immediately feeling his arms circle around her waist. "Morning beautiful," he whispered.
With a soft laugh, she leaned down to peck his lips. "Morning handsome." She leaned back to look at his face, admiring his smile. "I'm sorry about last night."
"I already told you, you don't have to apologise about-"
"I do. We were in the moment and you were being so gentle and I just-"
"Judith," he warned. She frowned as she looked at him. "I already explained this to you yesterday. You were not in the mood and I will never pressure you into having sex." She stayed quiet for a few seconds, looking down at her hands. Neil watched as her shoulders slowly slumped. He lifted a hand to brush away her hair. "What's on your mind?" he whispered softly.
"I only had one person make love to me and that didn't end very well. It's just- obviously I know you're not in love me but you were talking about the gentleness of love making. It just got me scared that's all." Neil smiled before pecking her lips.
"I'll say it again, whenever you feel like you want to stop or you don't like how it feels you tell me and I'll stop right away. You don't have to tell me everything now and I'm not expecting you to. You tell me everything in your own time." She slowly nodded her head as she turned to face the sky.
"You're really nice," she whispered softly.
"I try my best," he responded with a chuckle as he ran a hand over her exposed thigh. Neil glanced over at the clear sky, exhaling slowly. His view landed on the airplane going into hiding behind the clouds. "Sometimes I like coming out here and looking at it. The sky I mean. Even when there is nothing going on I still like staring at it. Somewhat soothing."
JJ slowly turned around on his lap, picking up her coffee mug with her left hand. With a sigh, she leaned back into him, feeling his lips trace over her shoulder. "I used to do it but I just can't be bothered to clean my balcony." She felt him laugh before she heard the deep chuckle escape his lips, his breath fanning over her neck. "I'm being honest with you."
"I know. And I love that you are." He sighed as he circled his arms around her waist. "JJ I know it's only been two weeks and this is going to sound absolutely absurd but spending this time with you..." he trailed off, not knowing how to say it.
"I know," she whispered. "I feel the same. Which is so crazy because I don't think I have ever felt this happy and comfortable with a guy just in two weeks. And technically we weren't even dating which makes it even crazier."
"All I can say is that if it feels this good in just two weeks I can't wait for the future." With a soft laugh, she set her mug down on the table beside them. Neil stared up at her, slowly lifting a hand to brush away her frizzy hair.
"A future? We've only gone out on one date. Do you really see it?"
"I'm calling six months minimum. Whether we last or not I'm gonna say we're gonna last longer than six months." She turned to face him, a smile growing on her face. The sunlight was shining on her, brightening her hair.
"Well I'm gonna say eight months." He pulled her down for a kiss.
"Bring it on," he whispered before kissing her again.

Neil squinted his eyes as he looked down at his phone. Scrolling through, he finally clicked on JJ's profile before giving the phone over to her.
"So I've been following the wrong profile?" he asked with a frown. "This person even messaged me back," he said as his frown deepened. JJ giggled as she raised a hand to his face.
"It's okay. I just hope you guys didn't talk too much."
Neil shook his head with a smile. It had been very short messages through her Twitter account which should have alarmed him because JJ always sent lengthy messages.
"Is someone jealous?"
JJ dropped her hands as she mimicked him. Neil chuckled before standing up, holding a hand out to her. Even with a frown on her face, she gently placed a hand on his and stood up. Neil snaked his arm around her waist before leaning down for a kiss.
"Well as much as I would love to see this jealous side a little more, I do want to feed you so I'll get cooking, you can open a bottle of wine and get your feet up." She raised an eyebrow.
"And why can't I help you in the kitchen? We can try and see if we can cook together."
Neil leaned down and kissed her before answering, "I don't want to in case we get annoyed at each other. Remember, I'm trying to get us to six months."
"Hey I'm aiming for eight. We placed our bets. You think I would jeopardise my chance of winning?" With a smile she held his hands and placed them behind her. "So what we cooking then?"
"Well," he mumbled as he pushed himself closer against her. "We could go out and get some supplies so we can go all out for the meal. Otherwise I've got some potatoes, some chicken and good old veg and pasta." She slowly stepped out his arms, seeing him frown as she let go of his hand. "Where you going?"
"To check what you got in your cupboards. I'm craving cheesecake." Neil whistled.
"It's make or break love. Strawberry or raspberry?" shaking her head, JJ walked into the kitchen.
"Neither. I'm gonna go with the salted caramel one. It's a real crowd pleaser at the bakery." She reached into the cupboard, picking up the flours. Neil gently placed a hand on her waist when she sighed.
"What you looking for love?"
"Icing sugar. And some vanilla extract."
He softly kissed her shoulder. "Icing sugar is right at the back and we're out of vanilla extract." Slowly, he turned her around by placing his hands on her shoulder. "I guess shopping it is isn't it?" With a smile on her face, she slipped her hands under his shirt, feeling his stomach sink in as he inhaled sharply. "If you have other plans then..."
He watched down as she giggled softly before leaning down to kiss her. "Well I do have to make up for ruining last night but we have plenty of time for that and-"
"Don't say that," he said with a frown. "I already told you that you never have to apologise for not being in the mood. And there never has to be any making up." He watched her frown as she looked up at him before he pulled her into a hug. With a sigh, he raised his hand to the back of her head. "I mean it, Jay. You owe me nothing."

The window was wide open, letting in the cool breeze. JJ shivered as the cold whispered past her neck. Neil leaned down to kiss her with a smile.
"Do you want me to close the window? You look a little cold."
"No, no. It's just because I put my hair up." She pecked his lips whilst gently lifting a hand to his chest. "Well one thing I can say is that we can prep in the kitchen together whilst arguing just a little." Neil chuckled as he placed his hands on her waist.
"Hey, I'm still standing with the way I cut the peppers."
"But your way just takes so much time," she said whilst rolling her eyes.
"But," he whispered, looking down at her. Although she was glaring at him he saw the way her eyes were shining and knew she was trying to supress a smile. "My way makes sure we use more of the pepper rather than throwing it all away." His smile widened when he saw her lips twitch. With a laugh, he picked her up and placed her on the counter. She shrieked in shock and then giggled.
"Are you going to take me on the counter?" she whispered in his ear. He laughed loudly before standing between her legs.
"Does everything have to be about sex with you?" he asked with a smirk.
"Is there anything wrong with me loving sex?" Neil shook his head before leaning in for another kiss.
"As long as it's with me then I couldn't care less." She gently placed her hands on his shoulders as she looked down at him. "But if you're up to it later on, then I wouldn't mind showing you a few things I didn't last night. But then again, we got six months minimum."
JJ giggled as she circled her legs around him, bringing him closer to her. "Well I mean if you thought last night was good, wait for the next six months, amore.".
He watched her silently with a smile as his hands settled on her thighs. "You know, I might just have to teach you Italian because it sounds so sexy rolling off your tongue."
With a giggle, she leaned her forward, resting her forehead against his. "I really hate to spoil the moment but I'm a little hungry and we should really get the food started, don't you think?"
"I think so too. Come on then, you make the cheesecake and I'll get started on the potatoes."
JJ looked around the kitchen and smiled. "Alright it's gonna be my turn to control the music now." She jumped off the counter and headed for the open laptop at the end of the table. After browsing for a playlist she liked, she stood up with a smile.
Neil was already by the chopping board chopping the potatoes and throwing them into the colander in the sink. He looked as the first song. "I like this one."
"It's my guy Tommy, how can you not like," she said as she spun round. Neil put the knife down and walked up to her. He placed his hands on her waist before talking a hold of her hand.
"I thought I was your guy?"
"Well I mean if you can sing like that then I'd be happy to call you my man."
"Well..." he leaned down for a kiss. He curled the stray strands of her before tucking it behind her ear. "I can't sing like him but my mother has taught me how to dance so if you don't mind, may I have this dance?"
Without waiting for her response. He took a step back, still holding onto her hand and then pulled her to his chest. JJ stumbled but balanced herself as she placed a hand on his chest. With a smile he lifted her arm and spun her around so her back was pressed against his chest. She felt him sway to the rhythm as his arms remained crossed over her torso.
"One step at a time, just you and I, " he whispered in her ear. Still swaying, he kissed her shoulder.
"I've never danced in the kitchen before," JJ admitted. "I mean when I'm by myself then sure but never with someone else."
"I'm glad I can be your first, Jay." She laughed loudly before leaning to her side for a kiss. He stopped swaying and kissed her back, feeling her smile into the kiss. "Lara and I dance all the time when we're cooking. Maybe you can join us one day," he said before pecking her lips. JJ stared out the window as she extended her hand back to touch his cheek.
"Cause my darling you and I," she whispered as she sang along. Neil smiled as he began to sway once again. "Could take over the world."
"Well would you look at that, my girlfriend can sing."
"Well I wouldn't say I can sing. I just don't sound like a dying fish like you do."
"Can't even say that's not true," he said with a laugh. He uncrossed his arms and twirled her round again so she was facing him. "Maybe I should teach you how to dance too."
"Oh honey, I can dance. It's just not PG rated that's all."
