CHAPTER 15

Jade's POV

Mom rushed towards the front door, stoping Karl before he could open the door.

I followed her and smiled at Karl who returned back to the kitchen.

Dax stood at our doorstep, looking all handsome and dreamy in his denims and a leather jacket.

"Hi, Mrs Okoye", he smiled as he hugged my mother and she greeted him back.

His eyes darted towards me and his smile grew wider.

"There's my date", he mumbled and I felt heat rush to my cheeks at his statement.

I heard footsteps behind me and glanced at Fizzy and my dad who stood a few feet behind.

"Hi, Mr Okoye", Dax waved like a kid and I bit my lip in order to stifle a laugh.

"Please come in, son", mom said, surprising Dax and me.

He smiled fondly as he stepped in and greeted my father.

"This is Fizzy, my best friend. And Fizzy, this is  my Dax, my fiancé", I introduced the two who greeted each other and shook hands.

"Right, your Dax", Fizzy smirked and I looked at the ground in order to avoid the looks from my parents.

"Alright, I'll take your leave", he said to my parents and they smiled at him.

"May I?", he extended his hand towards me and I took it with a smile as we walked out the main door.

I glanced around and waved at my parents and Fizzy who returned my gesture.

We walked down my driveway and Dax intertwined our fingers, making me grin crazily.

We stopped in front of a red Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and my jaw dropped.

Not only was Dax gorgeous but also his car was.

"Like it already, Princess?", he smirked and I nodded with wide eyes.

He opened the passenger door for me and closed it after I was in.

He walked around the front of his car, dragging a finger over the bonnet as he made his way towards the driver's seat.

After getting in he shut the door and turned to look at me.

"It's beautiful", I said, mesmerised by his gorgeous car.

I'm starting to feel jealous because his car looks way better than mine.

"Not more than my Jade", he said as he kissed my cheek and drove off, leaving me to be a blushing mess.

.

.

Dax brought me to a simple restaurant on our date.

He said he wanted to take me to some fun place, but he was really busy with work and couldn't plan out.

Well, he promised me that our next date would be fun.

"Some more wine?", he asked and I nodded.

I didn't even realise that I had finished drinking an entire glass until Dax asked me if I needed a refill.

"Thanks", I mumbled as I took a sip of my now full glass.

"We've been talking for the past hour and have finished more than a half bottle of wine and haven't ordered as yet", Dax laughed and I joined in too.

Were we drunk laughing?

"I think we should order. I'm starting to feel hungry", I pouted and his eyes grew soft.

"Sure, my Jade", he said and motioned for a steward to take our orders.

Dax ordered for some steaks, while I ordered for spaghetti.

Dax talked some more and I gazed at him.

His gorgeous blue eyes held a glint as he spoke, making his lips turn up in a smile and frown occasionally. The stubble on his face was turning into a beard and it made him look older and more masculine. The veins on his neck would become visible every time he laughed and I was lost in the sound of his laugh.

"Princess?", he questioned and I snapped out of my trance.

"Are you okay?", he asked, concerned.

"Yeah, I'm good", I smiled, but he still looked with those concerned blue eyes.

"I'm okay, I was just.. lost in thoughts", I said, trying to hide the fact that I was lost in his masculine beauty.

"Thoughts of? Would you like to share?", he asked, as his concern turned to comfort.

I bit my lower lip, trying to hide the smile forming over my lips.

"You", I mumbled as I looked down.

After a few seconds, I saw a long finger slide under my chin and lift it up, making my eyes meet a pair of gorgeous blue ones.

The grin on his face made his eyes crinkle slightly and it was such a beautiful sight.

"Don't be shy, muffin", he spoke in a husky voice and my throat dried all of a sudden.

The steward arrived with our dishes and Dax pulled his hand away from my chin, realising we were in public.

"Enjoy your meal", the steward said and he bowed before turning away, leaving us to dine.

.

.

Dinner was lovely as Dax and I got to know a little more about each other, sharing some more memories of our past.

I loved the way he'd listen to me whenever I spoke as if what I said was very important for his survival.

I also loved that he shared so much of his memories, some not very happy ones which were basically about two of his ex girlfriends who had been with him only for his money.

Bloody gold diggers.

"I've been wanting to tell you something else, my Jade", Dax broke me out of my thoughts as we ate the last of our tiramisu.

"Go on", I said with a mouthful and he laughed, making me grow embarrassed of myself.

"It's about the deal and also our wedding", he said as I nodded, gulping down the delicious dessert.

He put away his now empty China as he folded his hands on the table and looked at me as I stuffed another mouthful of my dessert.

"We should get married next week", he blurted out, making me choke and fall into a fit of coughs.

In an instant, Dax was by my side as he patted my back and helped me neutralise.

He poured me a glass of water and offered it to me. He sat back on his chair across me and watched as I drank it in one gulp.

I set the glass down and looked into his blue orbs and then reality hit me hard.

He just said that we should get married next week.

"Next week?", I asked in a low whisper.

He nodded.

"Isn't it a bit too soon? I mean, I-", I was interrupted by him.

"The sooner the better, muffin. I mean, once we're married, our parents can carry forward their business", he shrugged his shoulders.

We looked at each other as none of us spoke.

"Can we just get engaged next week? I wouldn't want to get married until my finals, that's three weeks from now", I said lowly as I gathered enough courage to voice my thoughts.

He studied me for a moment.

"Alright, if that's what you want", he said as he took my hand in his and gave it a slight squeeze.

"I'll talk to dad and our lawyer and let them know about our engagement next week", he flashed his heart melting smile.

"Thanks", I beamed as he kissed the back of my palm.

.

.

The drive back home was spent without Dax and me talking much.

He'd occasionally glance at me and reach out for my hand and kiss it, only to let go of it to take control of the wheel and resume driving.

Once we arrived at the gates of my home, Marcus opened them for us and gave a little salute to Dax.

He pulled up in our driveway and turned around to look at me.

He lazily undid my seatbelt, making me feel like a child.

Before I knew it, he was out of the car and walked towards the passenger door as he opened it for me.

He shut the door once I was out and pushed me against it as he wrapped his arms around my waist, trapping me between him and the car.

"Thanks for coming to dinner with me, muffin. I had a good time", he spoke as he caressed my cheek with his fingers.

"I had a good time too. Thanks for taking me out on a date", I smiled toothily and he beamed.

He inched forward, making my heart beat faster against my ribcage.

This is it, I think.

The moment where Dax and I kiss for the first time.

I close my eyes as I await the feel of his lips.

But alas, he kissed my cheek and I abruptly opened my eyes.

The smirk on his face made me blink several times.

He's such a tease.

"Good things come to those who wait, muffin", he winked before getting into his car and driving away as I stood in my drive way all flustered.
