The Day Percy Jackson Went Missing

Annabeth's POV

"And then I would put a temple for Zeus there..." I said gesturing with my hands. Percy smiled beside me. It was dark out and he was walking me to my cabin after the campfire. I can't believe it's only been five months since the Second Titan War. Five months of wonderful dating.

We arrived at Cabin Six and I started walking towards the door when Percy grabbed my hand. He pulled me back to him and he kissed me. He smelt of the ocean, and his lips tasted of sea salt. I smiled into the kiss before pulling away.

"Goodnight Wise Girl." Percy said with a smile. "Goodnight Seaweed Brain, See you tomorrow." And with that I walked into my cabin and went to sleep. Little did I know then, that I wouldn't be seeing my Seaweed Brain for a long time.

I woke to the sounds of my cabin mates bustling about and getting ready for breakfast. Sunlight shone through the windows and I stretched contentedly, a smile still evident on my face. I thought of Percy's smile and I giggled.

I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to get dressed for the day. I threw on the usual Camp t-shirt and jean shorts. I fingered the coral charm on my leather necklace that Percy gave me.

I sheathed my dagger and ran my fingers through my hair in an attempt to brush it. I pulled it into a ponytail and exited the bathroom. I was greeted by the wonderful smell of books. I took a deep breath and led my siblings to breakfast.

I was itching to talk to Percy. I had thought of an amazing new temple I could put on Olympus. I couldn't wait to share the details.

When we reached the dining pavilion only the Ares and Apollo campers were present. I wasn't expecting Percy to be here right away. I scraped half of my banana and muffin into the bronze brazier and prayed to my mother.

When I retook my seat, most of the campers were here. Still no Percy. I shrugged it off. He must just be sleeping in, right?

Chiron made a toast and the whole camp echoed it, but my attention was somewhere else. My eyes scanned the cabin area as I watched for Percy. He never showed.

I knew it was probably stupid, but I was starting to get a little worried. I could tell Chiron was thinking the same thing. I stood up and walked to the head table, all eyes suddenly on me.

"Can I go check on him? Maybe he's just sleeping in." I suggested. Chiron nodded while looking at the Poseidon cabin. I walked to the cabin, barely keeping myself from braking into a run, and I noticed that several demigods had started to trail me.

I approached the Poseidon cabin and a feeling of fear settled in my stomach. I took a deep breath trying to convince myself I was being stupid.

My hand settled on the door knob and my unease grew. There was no sound coming from inside the cabin. Get a grip I told myself. I opened the door and found....nothing.

I tilted my head to the side as I stepped past the threshold. "Percy?" I asked. No answer. I was definitely scared now. "Percy!" I threw back the covers on his bed. No Percy. I pushed open the door to the bathroom. No Percy. Soon everyone was looking around the cabin, overturning pillows and checking under bunks. No Percy.

Chiron wore a grim expression. "We'll send search parties. I'm sure he's just on an early morning stroll on the beach or in the woods."

We gathered in groups and searched the entire camp through and through. No sign of him. "Percy! Percy!" Everyone yelled as we searched the woods for the fifth time. I sat down on a rock and started to cry. I wiped furiously at my eyes, ashamed for crying. I was mad. Did he leave me? No, he wouldn't have.

Then that means something happened to him. Is he...? No, I refuse to think like that. I'll find him if it's the last thing I do.

Clarisse sat down next to me looking like she wasn't quite sure what to say. "Hey, he'll come back. He'll probably show up tomorrow with a smile on his face. And if not? We'll find him, okay? And we'll personally send whoever took him to Tartarus, got it? Come on, let's go back to the cabins. You should rest."

I smiled gratefully at Clarisse and nodded. I hadn't even realized how dark it had gotten. We were walking back when a thought hit me so hard I gasped out loud. "What?!?" Conner Stoll asked. "We haven't called his mother! What if he's there?"

I ran back to the Big House and dialed the familiar number on the phone. Sally Jackson answered on the third ring. "Hello? Chiron? What's wrong?"

"Hello Sally, it's me, Annabeth. I was wondering if Percy was there with you?"

"No, why do you ask? He hasn't been here all day." My heart sank. I didn't want to tell her the bad news, but it didn't look like I had any other choice.

"He's missing. We've searched the whole camp and we haven't found a trace. I was hoping..." I trailed off. I couldn't trust myself to talk anymore.

Sally took the news in silence. When she finally spoke, her voice was shaking. "I'll notify the NYPD. We can put out a missing person case and they can search the city and see if he's anywhere in the mortal world."

I nodded before remembering she couldn't see me. "Thanks Sally. I'll keep in touch." She hung up and I walked out of the Big House to confront the crowd of waiting Demigods. They all looked up at me with hope. I just shook my head and the hope was diminished; in the crowd and in me.

I walked back to the Athena cabin alone, stopping by Percy's cabin first. I grabbed his blanket and kept walking to my cabin. I got into my pajamas and climbed into bed, snuggling with the blanket that still smells like him and I cried myself to sleep.

Where are you Seaweed Brain?
