Preparation Part One

After school, Kath and I rode in my car to her house to prepare for Cameron's party.

Following the encounter with Cameron in the library, I found out from Kath that he was actually in most of my classes.

The first time I saw him without the accompanying of Kath was in Trig and we only locked eyes and smiled before the teacher took attendance.

I probably didn't notice him before because he sat in the back of the classroom.

I picked that up from Kath. Turns out even though he's kind of a nerd, he sleeps in class a lot and is determined not to be seen by a teacher while doing so.

He was the center of attention as far as I could tell from all the looks he was getting from girls and boys alike.

Cameron was extremely hot. And he knew it. But luckily, he didn't flaunt it too much to be a jackass. Which made him popular with all the girls.

I felt a little jealous but noticed he didn't nearly give them as much attention as he did me.

All he did was wink and give lazy smiles that made them go crazy.

He was a bit of a jokester with the back of the class in Trig.

Cameron made most of the popular guys laugh and fitted in with basically everyone.

News of his party traveled fast and there were rumors that he was the best bartender at parties.

"Hey Kath?" I ask, glancing at her before settling my eyes back on the road.

"Yeah?"

She took off her spiked headphones and closed her Shingeki No Kyojin manga. But not without putting in a bookmark in her place. She always did that in my car. Especially since she didn't get to read any of her manga in the library.

"Are we taking your car or my car to Cameron's party? And are you planning on drinking because either way, I'll probably drive us home" I ask straight forward just in case she didn't see what I was insinuating.

"Um... I think we'll take my car. I really don't plan on drinking either. Although, I highly recommend you have the most fun you can have at this party. Especially since I'm going to go through this trouble to get you with Cam and you won't even enjoy it," she said looking at me seriously.

"I'll have as much fun not drinking then drinking. Besides, you know how I get after a single shot," I said remembering the last party we went to.

It was last semester during our junior year. One of our old friends had a party and Kath decided we should go.

Kath was still dating Adam then and he was slightly popular so she felt compelled to go.

She basically dragged me out of my room. While I was having an Assassination Classroom marathon. I even had my tissue boxes ready. But no, I had to socialize with real people.

She even said Karma could wait. Karma. By that point, I knew she was delusional. And that she really needed me to go with her.

I hesitantly agreed and once we got there, I started drinking.

I had one shot.

One shot.

After that, I started dancing on every table and yelling at everybody to start drinking.

I was labeled a party animal the whole night. Good thing Kath covered my entire face with make-up so no one knew who I was the whole time.

It was horrible. I was lucky I didn't start kissing anyone otherwise my first kiss would be when I was drunk.

That was the last time we went to a party and I hope I don't repeat that tonight.

Especially around Cameron.

"Fine, but you still have to try to have fun at his party. Especially with Cam," she says.

I glance at her. Her blond eyebrows were violently wiggling on her face and I couldn't contain my laughter.

It was so weird when she did that. And she knew that.

Then I realized what she meant. I automatically blushed and then ruffled her hair.

"Don't touch the merchandise!" she squealed, furiously trying to fix her hair.

"We're not going to have that kind of fun, Kath. Especially since I haven't even had my first kiss yet. And I don't plan on having it tonight when I barely met Cameron," I say truthfully.

Although I was super attracted to Cameron, I at least wanted to know him more before we kissed.

Not that I think he wanted to kiss me or that I wanted him to kiss me. I just think that I would want to know the guy before we ever touched lips.

I parked inside her driveway carefully. I quickly opened the door to the backseat to retrieve my backpack.

After a while, she finally responded.

"Hmm. You may think that but Cameron may think otherwise once he sees what you're going to wear to his party!" she sing-songed.

I groaned loudly. "Oh gods, please don't make me look like a Malibu Barbie! I beg of you!" I yell.

We were at her doorstep when I got on my knees (twice in a day) and shook my clasped hands in her face.

Kath rolled her eyes, obviously irritated.

"I'm offended that you think I will dress anyone as a Malibu Barbie," she said.

"Good. I know I wouldn't have been able to pull off that look anyways," I say truthfully before getting up.

Kath gives me a look that says 'I know, sweetheart' before opening her door with her keys.

Once we got into her room, she automatically started rummaging through her closet.

I looked around in her room. She still outgrown her Scooby Doo phase so there was still a few stuffed animals of Scooby.

There was also a few anime posters on her walls next to her band posters.

She even had a wall of books. The bookshelves held an unbelievable number of books and manga. I'm pretty sure about half of it is manga.

Kath was very different than the typical teenager. If she wasn't watching a anime, she was reading a book. And if she wasn't doing that, she was dyeing her hair a different color.

Of course, she never dyed all of her hair. She vowed never to dye all her a color after she once dyed it green.

It was awful. It looked very unusual with her gray eyes. But, there was one good thing that came out of it.

She finally decided what to be for Halloween in eighth grade.

All she had to do was add a pointy hat, a cape, and some warts to become a witch.

Even though she was very unhappy with her situation that Halloween, she had fun. For a person like Kath, not having fun on Halloween was impossible.

It was in her nature to be cheerful.

She was just too good for me.

It took Kath almost an hour to find an outfit suitable for the party.

At first, it was a burgundy dress with a sweetheart neckline. Then it was jean shorts with a white halter top.

It was really crazy and overwhelming. She shoved everything against me, thought for a moment, and groaned as tossed it back into her closet.

Kath squealed in excitement as she found 'the one'.

'The one' consisted of a black crop top/tank with a white skater skirt and a thin gold medal belt.

She quickly told me that was what I was wearing and there would be no complaints from me.

Not like I had anything against it. It looked good. Who was I kidding?

It was perfect for me.

I think.

"But before you put that on Jackal, I need to do your makeup! You need to look hot for Camer- I mean the party. And I'm the only one who's going to put anything on your face," Kath said, smacking my hand when I tried reaching for the clothes.

"What do you plan on putting on my poor innocent face?" I asked, pouting.

She slowly let her mouth widen into an almost devilish smile as she sat me in me into a chair.

"You'll see, Jackal. You'll see."
