Chapter Four - Declaration Of War
It had been a day since Lilith and the Coven Guards were dispatched to the Knee to wipe out Millennium. Belos waited patiently for Lilith and the Coven Guards to return.
Belos: Kikimora, has there been any word from Lilith?
Kikimora: No, my lord.
Suddenly, Lilith enters the throne room in a panicked state and still covered in the blood of her comrades. Lilith collapses to her knees as she tries to report on the attack.
Lilith: My...my lord! I.....I.....
It was clear to Belos and Kikimora that something was wrong with Lilith.
Belos: Calm yourself, Lilith Take a deep breath and collect your thoughts.
Lilith follows Belos's instruction and takes a deep breath. She then takes a moment to collect her thoughts.
Belos: Now tell me what bothers you?
Lilith: We....we arrived at the Knee like you asked. But....they knew we were coming. They ambushed us before we could launch our attack! They herded us into their camp! It...it was a massacre! I watched my men get torn apart and devoured like animals!
Kikimora: How did you survive?
Lilith: They...they let me go. Their leader wanted me to tell you exactly what happened.
As Lilith speaks on her ordeal, Belos takes a moment to process this new information.
Belos: Calm yourself, my friend. Your suffering is over. I cannot imagine the horror you have witnessed. You were right to come to me. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
It wasn't long before a Coven Guard enters the throne room rolling in a projector.
Coven Guard: Apologies, my lord, but we found this outside the castle. It....it's addressed to you.
The Coven Guard then hands Belos a remote. When he presses it, the projector activates and the Major was seen on the screen.
Belos: Major....
Major(Broadcast): Why hello again, Belos! I see my little scarecrow has arrived!
Belos: You made a grievous mistake, Major.
Major(Broadcast): You're one to talk, Belos. Did you really think that I was not aware of what you were doing? Did you really think that you were beyond my sight? I gave you an olive branch and you spat in my face. Tsk tsk tsk.
At this point, Belos grew more and more impatient with the Major.
Belos: You will regret this dearly, Major.
Major(Broadcast): You are familiar with Schubert's work? The Trout is my favorite piece. A fisherman grows weary of trying to catch an elusive fish. So he muddies the water, confuses the fish. It does not realize until too late that it has swum into a trap. Which are you, Belos? The fisherman or the fish?
Belos: Is there a point to this?
Major(Broadcast): The story that raven haired songbird sang to you was merely...a taste of what is to come. I want you to know that you had every opportunity to avoid this confrontation. All you had to do was to return what you have stolen and that would have been the end of it! But now you have made it clear that you want war. If it's war you want, then war you shall have. I will not stop until I have reclaimed what is mine. When the streets run red with blood, when the screams of those you rule echo across this land, when the very land is bombed to oblivion, when we sweep in like a tempest, leaving not even ravens to scavenge from this world, know that you had every opportunity to avoid this outcome. You had every opportunity to reverse this course you now find yourself in. I hope you're ready for a war, Emperor. For this war, it will be a war so grand as to make Hell itself tremble. It will be a bloody, merciless war! Emperor Belos, I hereby declare war on you. Prepare to face....Hell....
With that, the broadcast ends. The throne room fell silent as Belos quickly realized that he had underestimated the situation. His attempts to wipe out Millennium was clearly anticipated and now he had just given the Major excuse to wage war in the Boiling Isles. In the face of this, Belos knew he needed to prepare.
Belos: Kikimora, summon the Golden Guard. Lilith, gather all of the Coven Heads.
Lilith: Are we....even equipped for this kind of war, my lord?
Belos: The battle will be hard and may will no doubt lose their lives, But we will not falter in the face of these monsters. As the Voice of the Titan, it is my solemn vow to see that these invaders are wiped out. It is as the Titan wills it.
With that, Belos began preparing his forces for the war to come. He knew that war with the Major and Millennium will be bloody. But he was willing to sacrifice whatever was needed to keep custody over the Corpse of Mina Harker. Meanwhile at the Deus Ex Machina, the Major was making preparations for his war against Emperor Belos. He was absolutely giddy for the war to come. It had been too long since he had a good war. It would be good practice for his true war. Once everything was prepared, the Major issued a broadcast to all his troops.
Major: At last, the sea lion has crossed the boiling ocean and is heading up the hill. Attention, all soldiers of the Millennium Battalion! This is a message from your commander. Friends... let's bring them Hell.
With that, Millennium departed from the Knee and set a course for Bonesborough. In that moment, the Boling Isles would be thrust into a bloody war.
