Chapter Eight - A Debt Repaid

After being overwhelmed by the Millennium's lieutenants, Belos ran for the Relic Room. As he reached the Relic Room, he approached the coffin holding the Corpse of Mina Harker. It wasn't long before the Major and his lieutenants arrived at the Relic Room.

Major: You've amassed quite the collection, Belos! I'm quite impressed! Luckily for you, I have no desire to take your Relics. All I want is what is mine. Now if you would so kindly....

As the Major began to approach Belos, he aimed his Staff at him. The Millennium lieutenants prepare to attack, but the Major ordered them to stand down. The Major analyzed Belos and could see that he is greatly weakened. More importantly, he saw parts of Belos's body heavily destabilizing into a brown-and-green sludge-like substance.

Major: Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you. Do you know what that means, Belos?

Belos: Enlighten me.

Major: You've spent so long preparing to purge this land of all witches and magic in the name of Humanity. And yet, you have become the very thing you have sworn to destroy. You wear the guise of a benevolent witch to fool those you rule. And even now, you wear the guise of a man. You have forsaken your humanity for the sake of power.

Belos: You don't know....anything.....

As Belos stares down the Major, the Major doesn't move an inch. At the same time, the Golden Guard and the surviving Coven Guard entered the Relic Room. They watched as the Mighty Emperor Belos was in a weakened state.

Major: You claim to be a man with the trappings of a monster, yet you are nothing more than a monster with the trappings of a man. Just like him.....

Belos: You dare compare me to....him?! And what are you?!

Belos then fires a blast of magic from his Staff at the Major, but misses. The Major doesn't flinch as he begins approaching Belos.

Major: My humanity is not in question. I still have that one trait that puts us in ascendance even above the angels. It is my will that drives me. I am propelled by my own unadulterated will. Even if I were reduced to nothing more than a brain in a jar, synapses firing in a sea of pure thought, I am Human. Within me rests a Human soul...and a Human's will, precious beyond all worth. Mein Herz, meine Seele, mein Leben, they are all mine. You....you are no Man. You....are simply a monster who believes himself a Man. Now then, Belos. What will you do?

As the Major said this, Belos felt every urge to kill the Major where he stood. But if he did so, there would be nothing stopping the Millennium lieutenants from attacking him. His power had been diminished from the prolonged fighting. And with his condition deteriorating, Belos couldn't afford a prolonged fight. Even if he were to escape with Mina Harker's Corpse, he knew that Millennium would burn the Boiling Isles down to reclaim it. With each passing moment, Belos began to realize that keeping the Corpse of Mina Harker would be too costly for his grand plans. In that moment, Belos relented.

Belos: Take it.....and leave....now....

Major: Very good, Belos! I'm glad to see you still are capable of seeing reason! Doctor?

The Doctor and a group of Millennium Soldiers approached the Coffin holding Mina Harker's Corpse. The Doctor inspects the contents of the Corspe.

Doctor: The Corpse is in good condition, Herr Major.

Major: Excellent, Herr Doctor! See to it that the Coffin is taken back to the Machina!

With that, the Doctor and the Millennium Lieutenants began transporting the Coffin containing the Corpse of Mina Harker. As the Relic Room was emptied, only the Major and Belos remained.

Major: Wittebane, normally I would say "Auf wiedersehen," but since what "auf wiedersehen" actually means is "'till I see you again", and since I never wish to see you again, to you, sir, I say goodbye!

As the Major begins walking away, Belos looks upon the Major, humiliated by this defeat. But as the Major was about to leave, he stops.

Major: Ah! Before I forget, there's still....one last loose end for me to tie up.

The Major then turns to the Golden Guard and the surviving Coven Guard. Without warning, the Coven Guard pulls out a dagger and slits the Golden Guard's throat. The Coven Guard grabs the Golden Guard as blood sprays from his throat. Belos watched in shock as the Golden Guard struggles to breathe. As the Golden Guard struggles, he manages to knock the Coven Guard's mask off of the guard, revealing the face of Schrödinger. After minutes of struggling, the Golden Guard's body goes limp. Schrödinger lets go of the Golden Guard. Schrödinger then calmly walks over to the Major.

Major: Well done, Warrant Officer Schrödinger!

Schrödinger: It was quite easy, Herr Major! They didn't suspect a thing!

Major: Emperor Belos, I would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to wage war once more! As unpleasant as this was, this....skirmish has made me giddy with anticipation of my beloved war! Farewell, Belos! Enjoy your empire while it lasts, "Emperor". Sieg gehört jetzt mir.

With that, the Major and Schrödinger left the Relic Room. When he was left alone, Belos walked over to the lifeless body of the Golden Guard. He had such high hopes for the Golden Guard. He was beyond infuriated that the Major had him killed. He had no choice but to make another. But for now, Belos's plans for the Day of Unity had been dealt a serious setback. Millennium then used their remaining supply of Titan's Blood to leave the Boiling Isles. With Millennium gone, Emperor Belos would continue moving forward with his plans for the Day of Unity.
