The Day I Met My Creator
Hey, its Miyako. Akira Miyako. I am sure you must have heard of me, I am a famous writer, no I am really just mediocre. Recently, my friend, who works in the editorial department of this famous famous book publishing company, informed me about the notice the Chief hung up for all the editors to tell their clients that all of us were to write a story, made up or real, short or long, didn't matter, as long as we submitted it.
Ha Ha.
Thinking hard and long on it in vain, I decided to write an actual event.
It was the day before Tanabata and me and Haru-myhusband- were watching a show together on TV about people who, if, wished hard enough, got them fulfilled in a month's time. They were ofcourse humans so take a guess what they wished for? Yes, exactly, money, fame and immortality. However, like not all the vegetables are deadly, there was one person in there, who wished for the extraordinary. A wish to meet his creator. Now I know it was pure imagination but that thought got stuck with me for the entire day and only upon interrogation by Haru did I express it to him.
"It will sound weird." I told him, not exactly sure if I should voice it.
"I am married to you, nothing can surprise me Goldy-Locks."
So I confided into him my thoughts that what if we get to meet our creator as well? Like that person on that show, if we wished hard enough. It took some professional use of rhetoric to gain Haru's vote but he never denies me things when I am passionate about something.
We were lucky because the very next day was the Star Festival and Haru thought that my wish might really come true if ours were similar. The festivities were carried out all night, if not in the towns, then in the houses with friends and families and sake. By the morning I barely remembered anything and the next few days of constant business took away all the time for thoughts to settle in my head, though I was still aware of my wish.
However, I waited days, which turned into weeks and months. I knew that my wish was absurd and there was no way it would be fulfilled but some part still clung to hope that "what if"?
It was just another day in October and I was preparing some tea and snacks for Haru since he would be home in half an hour. With my hands occupied in cooking and one of my feet occupied in stroking my jet black cat Kuro-Point-Two, who I picked up from the station one day on my return from Akihabara, the bell rang.
Now who would that be? Can't be Haru, he has the key and the loudest voice in the whole galaxy I bet when he arrives home.
I first checked through the peep-hole then opened the door when there was only a girl standing on the front steps.
"Um..can I help you?" She looked at me and I froze. I knew this person. But, from where? She smiled and I broke out of my trance. "Would you like to come in and have some tea?"
The girl obliged and I led her into the living room and went to prepare tea for her. One part of me was telling me to be warned but another part was completely calm about me leading a stranger into my home.
Kuro-Point-Two apparently did not like this person as he was hissing angrily at her but suddenly he stopped when she addressed him, "Hello Kuro-Point-Two, its just me."
How...did she know his name?
Normal people would have been scared by such a happening but I strangely wasn't. There was something about her air that was soothing and familiar.
"Here's your tea." I put some tea in front of the guest, smiling then noticed my cat purring at her touches. He never purred when I touched him! Such treachery!
"Thank you Miya." She looked around then asked me something, "where's that landmark of a person?"
"I am sorry who?"
She sipped from her tea as I seated myself opposite to her on the couch. "Ha-", she was cut short by the bell. "That would be him."
It was supposed to freak me out how she knew things and to some extent I was creeped out but I wasn't. How can I explain that without sounding confused myself?!
It was Haru on the door and when I saw him, I burst out laughing, finally getting that she called Haru "landmark of a person". He was tall and that was what I used to call him back in school.
Wait a second...
"Are you sick?" I was brought out of my thoughts by my husband placing a hand on my forehead.
"No but hurry! You have to meet this person!" I took him by the arm, hardly able to control my sudden excitement and led him to the living room, where once Haru had glanced upon the girl, showed the same reaction as me.
She stood up and smoothed out her clothes, showing us both a smile that I don't think all the money in the world could be worth.
"Sorry fellows it took so long. But your wish, has finally been granted."
OF COURSE!! THATS HOW SHE KNEW EVERYTHING!
I couldn't control my joy and neither could Haru. Though we spent an entire day with her, talking and laughing and teasing, it never crossed both mine and Haru's mind to ask for her name or some of the most basic things you need to know about a person like their age, where they live, what foods they like, what colour, things like these. It felt like we both knew her so there was no need to ask. It felt as if we were pieces of her, so there was no need to ask.
Her laugh, her joy and her happiness was contagious and it was an honour to know that this jolly person, was the one who created us both. Her departure was a flashy dematerialisation into thin air, leaving the whole back yard full of bright red poppies, my favourite flowers.
Most people, I know, who are rationale believers, would categorise my story as fiction but it really isn't. Sure, a wish to converse or even see our creators is an impossible one to come true, however, some few lucky us, we do get to meet them.
