The Note

I had to leave and just let them calm down. But they were standing right at the door, maybe I could get away if I just said hi and rushed out the door. Ok here goes,

"hi guys, you're back late!"

I popped up from behind the couch.

"Katie? Is that you?"

Brian turned around and smiled

"how nice of you to join us!" They all laughed.

"C'mere darling I wanna see your face" he grabbed at the air in front of him. Mick made fish lips and kissed the air and Keith just stood there and stared at me.

"I'm going to go now, Brian" I said while moving toward the door. "But Katie! I love you! Stay!" This was the drink talking, this was not the real Brian I reminded myself. I opened the door.

"Aww fine, I didn't really love you anyway!" He snarled at me,

I whipped my head around, "thats right, you own a record store, I had to get a record store to sell our records" I turned around and was out the door and down the street. Faster than I'd ever run before.

The tears came as soon as I burst into the shop. This was the drink talking, this was the drink talking I repeated to myself as I stumbled upstairs and into my bed.

Brian's POV:

All I remember is drinking. . .alot. A-and coming home, I had had two liquor bottles underneath my shirt. I think I stole them. I also remember calling out Katie's name and her running away. I don't know why though. That's about it, the rest is a hazy blur, I think I drank a bit to much last night.

Coming back to reality, I noticed I was on my bed... sideways and I had no shirt on. I pushed myself up and immediately fell back down, I had a splitting headache. I guess I fell back asleep because the next thing I knew, light was streaming in through the window and my headache had dulled. I just lay there, thinking. Why would Katie run away? I must've said something wrong.

Suddenly it all came back to me-me telling her I loved her,her heading toward the door, me snarling that I never loved her, me telling her that I was only using her and her eyes tearing up as she ran outside and into the night. I groaned, what had I done? There was a crash from downstairs and I jumped up from the bed and tiptoed quietly into first Mick, then Keith's room. They were both asleep...so who was downstairs?

I went downstairs as quietly as I could in my drunken state and peeked into the kitchen. Seeing that nobody was there, I walked into the kitchen. But then I noticed that something was off, the stove was warm and there was something on the stove in a frying pan, just cooling off, I went over and looked at it. Eggs. Who could have cooked the eggs? On the table was a note, I picked it up and read it:

'I am true to my word, so, here is a breakfast that will surely help your hangover. Goodbye, Katie'

She was truly a nice soul, I thought as my eyes teared up, what HAD I done? Wait, the stove was still hot, she should have just headed out!

And so, I rushed outside, without a shirt, and saw her silhouette at the end of the road.

"Katie!"

The strangled cry escaped my throat as I ran toward her

"Katie wait!"

She turned around and I saw her eyes tear up, but she didn't run away. She just...stood there.

I ran up and bent over, catching my breath, "Katie," I puffed.

"Hello, Brian" her voice wobbled when she said my name. She stood there holding an egg carton, and I didn't know what to do. I was standing there, in front of probably the most lovely girl I'd ever met, and I was shirtless, had ruffled hair and probably puffy eyes.

"If you have nothing to say" she inhaled "I guess I'll be going then" a tear fell down her cheek. Her lip wobbled. Say something you idiot! I told myself.

"I-I-I am sorry Katie" my voice cracked on the last syllable.

"Katie I'm sorry" I repeated, "I'm not using you, I swear, I wouldn't"

I grabbed for her hand but she just sat down on the curb and put the eggs on the ground. "Brian," She started, "how do I know you're telling me the truth, how do I know you aren't just using me?"

She wouldn't meet my eyes, she was staring strait ahead.
