Come On
Brian's POV:
Mick and I were walking about one day, collecting bottles to exchange for cash. "So you really like this girl, huh?" Mick asked, "ya, I've never met anyone like her before" I replied. "Hmmh" Mick bent down "found one!"
He straightened up with a clear, glass coke bottle in his hand. "Great!" I held out the bag so he could put the bottle in. "Have you found a record label that will record us yet?" Mick looked down,
"I'm working on it" I mumbled.
The problem was, I didn't know if anybody would actually buy our records, we did need a songwriter and I didn't know if Mick or Keith had any songwriting talent. I bent down to pick up a bottle and put it in the bag. "Do you think we have enough?" I asked. "Ya, I'll go get Keith and then we'll go trade them in" then Mick turned around and sped off in the direction of home. I continued on by myself, the other problem was that our bassist, Dick Taylor, was thinking of going to an art college and leaving the band.
Although we hadn't really started performing in front of fans, more like bored workers looking for some entertainment after a long day. I picked up another bottle and put it in the bag. Where was I going to find a bass player if Dick decided to go to college? I walked out onto the sidewalk and headed toward a place where I could exchange the bottles.
After I'd done that, I started walking toward the place where I was going to meet Mick and Keith for a Coke. I could already see them waving at me from a restaurant. It didn't matter, we'd find another bassist, I was sure, and we were going to make history with our music...after we'd had a Coke, that is.
Katie's POV:
Brian came back a week later and invited me to the recording of there first single, a cover of Chuck Berry's Come On. "So would you like to come?" He asked, then added "it's on a Saturday so you don't have to work" he looked hopeful. So I looked at him,and said "Id love to". Getting ready on Saturday, I didn't really know what to wear. So I just threw on a nice-ish skirt and a shirt. Brian was waiting when I unlocked the door, and we started toward Edith Grove to meet Mick and Keith and then go and get the others. Mick greeted me with a nod and Keith said "hi", "hello singer, are you ready to sing?" I asked. "I....sure" Mick seemed preoccupied and was drumming his fingers on a table. Nervous energy filled the room, the three other bandmates and Keith and Brian, were all tuning up their instruments. Except the drummer, who was asleep on the couch. Me and Mick chatted for a while about everything, about shoes, hair, the weather outside, how his throat felt.
Then we all piled into our cars, carpooling. At the studio, we were guided into a room to prepare and talk over things. The drummer was sitting in a corner, twirling his drumsticks, and the guitarists were tuning up and strumming their guitars. Whereas Mick had convinced me to do warm up voice exercises with him. So, sitting cross legged on the floor, I helped him as best as I could with warming up his voice.....he seemed very nervous.
"Ok, are you guys ready to record now?" Someone popped their head in the room, and Everyone looked up and just stared at him. So I looked back at Brian and widened my eyes. He pried his eyes off the guy, and stared at me and I gestured toward the guy in the door. "I..oh yes we are ready now" Brian stood up and so did the others. As I passed the guy, he stopped me and asked if I was a musician to. "Oh no, it's just them, do you know where I could watch them record?" I asked.
"Well, it's not really-" he started, but Brian poked his head back in the room and said "She's like our good luck charm, and we need her", "Ok, I guess I'll show you where you can sit" he replied. Brian looked at me and gave me two thumbs up, and then he disappeared into the recording booth. Once everything was prepared the guy said they could start, they did, and they were amazing!
After they'd done a couple of takes on the song and still weren't satisfied, the guy said they could take a break for lunch. They all came out and Brian sat down beside me, "you guys sound really good!" I clasped his hand and he just looked at our hands, together. "You're not lying? You swear?" He looked at my face and I nodded "I am NOT lying, Brian, I swear! You guys have a new sound that I don't think anybody has heard before" I looked at him. He smiled and stood up "hey guys? I think we're good for today...I think we sound great" Mick looked at him and said "I think we should just do one more, okay Brian?"
