The Day I Gave My Background
Enzo:
Care to listen up?
Do you care to hear my warning?
If you don't, be aware, that you will be dead by morning.
Go on?
Everyone says my life is great. I have servants like I am a king, I never do my homework, ha-I don't even eat my vegetables. But when you're a celebrity, mostly everything is frightening.
Your life is at stake when your a son of a Zodiac legacy. Forget about walking down the street or cruising through the mall, nobody cares about your personal life, your secrets are the world's secrets.
Zodiac is a family name... and a downright popular and rich one. You either love this family or you want them deader then dirt. There is no in between. You may have heard of the Zodiac Signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. You probably learned about these in school, if you were paying attention. Well the Zodiac's are real and they don't pay attention to you either... especially if your their kid... like me.
The Zodiacs have important places they need to be, important people they need to see, important places they need to see and important plans they need to make.
Which none of these include me.
So once again... Zodiacs are real and they have kids... I have cousins, and us kids all have issues together.
"Daddy doesn't love me and mommy is too busy," my cousin Torrent was saying to me when he was five years old. Since then.... nothing has changed, now he says: "Luke is too busy with work, and Aspen can't protect me."
His brother, and my other cousin, Jay says just the opposite he does, "Dad and Mom are just busy.... yes... umm they are busy, being a Zodiac."
"They never listen." Mason, my third cousin was telling me about his parents. "Not to me or anybody."
Everyone knows about the twelve Zodiacs, and I just wish everyone would hear our story... my side of the story of this crappy life. My final words to you about my life: Don't borrow-wait borrowing would apply I plan on giving it back. Don't take-no, that would apply that I was close enough to lay my hands on it, rather then what I actually did. Oh! I got it! Don't go stealing a Zodiac lightning bolt... it doesn't turn out good in the end.
Don't believe this crap I'm telling you? Then let me start at the beginning then work up to the day I got expelled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name's Enzo Nathaniel Zodiac and let me say, I never wanted to be a Zodiac in the first place, also never wanted to be hero seeking praises and everyone shouting my name. Likewise, I never wanted my world-class jerk of a dad, but you get what life hands you. Some get lemons and I got a lime.
Being a Zodiac is downright scary, it ends up getting you killed in nasty ways. I for example have to wear gloves to protect others from myself, whenever I touch anyone-well I'm not sure what happens-but Luke says they die.
Like I said before; I am the only one who doesn't want to be a Zodiac. Every child is lining up to see if they can survive the transformation where Mike Zodiac literally slices up their DNA and reprogram their biological structure to match a Zodiac family member. It's not turning out so well, some are good if they survive-others....not so much.
I also never wanted this pain I feel every day from knowing that my hands cause pain. Honestly, all I ever wanted was to make it through to the next grade.
But that never happened-it wasn't my fault, if you will believe me...well it kinda was but....it wasn't my power that drew me to the Zodiac Rangers, it wasn't my adopted Dad, Luke, either. It was the danger that drew me to the place-or to the bolt of lighting-where it all went down.
Then I got expelled.
Ok, let me back up for a moment. You probably have a lot of questions about all these words I am using, you might not know them because your life is happy and normal and not constantly in danger of the unknown. But my life... not that...
You're also probably asking yourself: What's a Zodiac Ranger? Well please don't. Before I hear of them and before I even laid eyes on them, my life was perfect. But after I saw them-oh man, ugg!
Let me back up even further.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I was on this sketchy field trip. It was trippy, this planet called Malison, where the Zodiacs live. This is where my story begins.
I was geeking out at all the Zodiac stuff, I found my ancestor's stories fascinating. It was the only class I actually liked, to be honest. Even though I didn't pay attention to half of it.
The place we were at was called: The Museum of Astrology and Stars. The class and I were learning about the history of our planet, we had spent months learning about Atom Zodiac, this trip was to prepare us for our final project.
We stopped at all the statues of my uncles and aunts and learned about each Zodiac, my teacher was my aunt, Emler Leo Zodiac. Our tour guide was named Oberon. I haven't done anything wrong, I wasn't rude, and yet... he kept glaring at me like he wanted to wrap me up in a burrito and eat me with some Mexican sauce. Little did I know that this was the first explosion, the first spark that would lead me up to the day I got expelled.
"The Zodiac Family." Emler stated as she pointed at my Aunts and Uncles in a painting. "All mighty and strong in their own way. They were named after the star constellations, each given to be their own. But they were all children like you once. They didn't have it easy. Their father, Cedric, forced each child to train like warriors after a fatal accident that caused his wife to die, resulting in their need for blood and war. That's what they were raised on. Although they were not all the same, some children known as the rebels, secretly joined forces to take down their father's rule. The leader of this group was named Azun Watcher Zodiac. Other members included: Jasper Scorpio, Vestry Aquarius, Dustan Libra, and Nathaniel Sagittarius."
Each time I hear my father's name. Hate flows through my veins. Not only did he ruin the Zodiac name for a while, he was a scandal, evil little snake. Above all, I say my father was a traitor. He left before I was born, he didn't care about me or my mother. She died in labor, I was an orphan before I look my first breath. I'm just glad that Luke adopted me, don't know what I would do without him.
"Their father feared the day his children would rise above him." Emler continued to lecture. "He had twelve children and it was destiny that one would rise above him someday. He placed Mike and Luke Zodiac over his other children to keep them in line, knowing his two eldest sons would stay loyal to him. With these loyalists like Mike and Luke included, Myself, Larkin Cancer, Aspen Virgo, Ames Pisces, and Arielle Gemini. Does anyone know what their father did to his children to try and keep on the throne?"
"He sent his children off to war in hope they would die." I speaks up, knowing this story by heart. "He wanted the rebel alliance to die, but he only lit the spark that caused the poop to hit the fan and all crap to break loose."
"Ok, good analogy and you are correct." Emler continued. "Now a few rebels tried to step out of line and defy their father in hopes the rest of Malison would join the underground rebels. Does anyone know any acts?"
I decide to stay quiet for a while, Oberon was giving me a stink eye. I just zipped my lips and listened to my fellow classmates, even though I didn't give a crap what they think.
"Vestry didn't go to war." Macy called out.
My best friend Jason raised his hand and said, "Azun published essays."
"Dustan sailed away!" Kason yelled.
"Jasper left the rebels to join the loyalists, ratting them out to Luke." Landon smiled at himself for knowing that.
"Nathaniel stole more power." Payton stated.
"All good answers." Emler stated. "Now. What were the consequences?"
"Vestry was banishment to Earth." Macy answered.
"Azun died-no he committed suicide." Jason corrected himself.
"Jasper was rewarded." Kason answered next.
"And... we don't talk about Seven." I stared at my teacher.
Nathaniel was a great historical figure, just not good for being a fatherly figure. After he illegally stole power from Vestry, he still went to war and unfairly won the game. He ruined any chance of peace and for that he was sent to Earth, banished forever. But that wasn't enough for my father, he defied physics and somehow broke out of Earth and came back to Malison. Where he proceeded to shoot Mike for no reason and took control of over half the city and got everyone to blindly follow him.
I can't even speak his name aloud, I can only call him the name he was given for becoming a monster. Seven. My father is the villain in my history books, you have no idea how that feels. I have to bear his name every day.
I also didn't really get the story... I knew it, but I felt like they didn't fill us in on the details of how and why... I felt like this was all fiction that they were teaching me. I don't know why... or if it was just me who felt this way, but Zodiac history is deeply weird. At least these stories aren't boring like I thought history would be.
"Enzo Zodiac." Oberon snapped at me. "Quiet down!"
I huffed, placing in some earphones as I turned to look at some books in another exhibit. Written on the pages was an ancient Malison language that I wish I knew, I wonder what secrets hide in these stories?
I didn't want to pay attention to my teacher as she explained about the Zodiac power weapons and power stones at the next exhibit. But looking back on it now... I wish I would of taken notes, because you can't find information like this on the internet.
I can see my reflection through the thick glass, I look nothing like my father, that makes me glad. I have black hair with white streaks woven through randomly. My eyes were pale blue and my skin was ivory. I can not tell you how over-relived I am to know I don't look like Seven.
Jason sneezed a giant sneezing fest, he must of been allergic to..... there wasn't anything in here he would of been allergic to. We were in a marvel building with no air flow from the outside, everything was filtered.
"Sorry man." Jason whipped his noes.
"It's fine." I said, continuing to listen to rock and roll and stare through the glass at random things.
Jason picked something out of his hair... it looked like bread... what the crap? My best friend was acting strange..... in which he so excelled at.
I could see Oberon starring at me from the reflection of the glass. That dude seriously creeped me out.
"Dude, what is this crap in your hair?" I asked as I picked out some brown stuff from his red hair.
"It's a peanut butter sandwich." Jason said.
"Why do you have peanut butter in your hair!" I asked as I helped him pick it out, we were in the back of the tour group for our class.
"Macy." Jason groaned. I felt like groaning too. The blond chick in the front of the group, with the pink shirt and peppy smile on her face, she is a demon, at least I think she is. Worst of all, she hates me because I am the only one brave enough to stand up to a bully when I see one.
"She threw a sandwich at you?" I asked as I got the last of it out of his hair.
"No." Jason said. "She threw it at you, but I stopped it... with my head."
"You are such a good friend." I smile at him.
"Aww.... but dude." He gave me a serious look over his shoulder as he walked back to the group. "I'm your only friend."
I chuckled a bit and skipped he next song on my playlist and continued to listen to my rock and roll as he walked behind the group.
"Enzo Zodiac." Oberon snapped, his black hair fell across his shoulders and his eyebrows were like two caterpillars glaring at me from across the room.
"Mr. Zodiac." Oberon walked over to me.
I couldn't really hear him over the music as I looked at the scrolls again, there were drawings on them about the power stones and other crap like that. But I didn't care to take a closer look and just glanced over them.
"Enzo Zodiac!" Oberon snapped, but my music was too loud for me to hear him. I could see him walking over to me.
I could see Macy smirking from the group as I was about to get in trouble... it was probably her who told on me for something stupid, like how I pushed her off the swing because she hung a first grader's underwear up the flag pole. Of course leaving out the detail on the things she had done wrong.
"Mr. Zodiac!" Oberon snapped and I tried to walk away, back to the group to ignore him and pretend like I was paying attention to this lecture.
I saw Jason watching me, worried for me getting in trouble, but obviously too chicken to stand up to the group.
"Enzo come here!" Oberon grab my arm. "I have heard much about you.... Enzo Nathaniel Zodiac."
"Wow... you are so dedicated for a tour guide who has never meet me." I snap and I try to jerk away from his grip on my wrist. I am unaware that my large glove slide off my small hand.
"Yes I have heard a lot about you...." Oberon grabbed my wrist tighter. "Let's take this outside." He tried to pull me away from the group, we get just around the corner and away from the class's view and I feel like I'm being dragged like a sack of flour.
"Let go of me!" I shouted, kicked to break his grasps on me. My earbuds fell from my ears, my Net-Pad shattered as it hit the ground.
I made a bold move, a foolish move. I grabbed onto Oberon's skin and dig my nails into his flesh till ruby blood sipped from the skin.
"Ahh!" Oberon screamed out in pain, not because of the cuts, but because I forgot about my dreaded curse of a gift... the power given to me by my father.
"Enzo!" Jason runs in my direction as Oberon fell to his knees at my feet, he gasps at the sight and calls for the teacher.
It had slipped my mind that Oberon removed my glove, and when I touch someone they lose their power if they have one, and if they don't... they die.
I gasped, covering my mouth. "I didn't mean to!" I tried to explain. "It was an accident, I swear!"
"No time to explain." Emler dialed a EMT, and threw my glove at me. "You are going to report back to Luke.... after your detention."
Luke is my adopted father, he tells me stories of my real father and all the terrible things he did. It's worst for me, to know that I am the heir to such evil and I have to remember every detail every day of my life. The school isn't allowed to punish me. But I know Luke will with another story.
I couldn't believe this has happened... again... I wish my life was just one big dream I could wake up from.
Oberon was once at my feet, but when I looked back he was gone. Emler looked around confused... also noticing he was gone.
Then the next thing that I knew.... I was in the all so familiar room where detention was held. This was the start of my weird day... my day of getting-
"Expelled?!" I gasped as Emler told me the news.
"I'm sorry. I tried to talk the school out of it Enzo... but there is nothing I could do. You needed to stay with the group and you didn't do that. That was your final straw." Emler said as she handed me the pink slip.
"But... it was Oberon! It wasn't my fault! He dragged me away and attacked me! You saw it all-"
"I didn't see anything." She said, her green eyes looking at mine. "And there want anyone named Oberon with us... perhaps this is better. This wasn't be place for you. And I think we both knew it was only a matter of time before-"
"Before I Got Expelled." I finished her sentence. "You think I'm a screw up just like everyone else." I turned and left her in her office. Waiting outside was Jason, my curly red headed best friend. His face dropped when he saw the pink slip.
"It's alright," he tried to cheer me up as we walked to get the stuff out of my locker. "Maybe this is all for the best. Besides, you never fit in here anyways, you aren't exactly..."
"Normal?" I finished his sentence and grabbed my books from my locker.
"Yeah!" He nodded and smiled, then he saw how that upset me. "I mean... umm... I guess I'll see you around..." then he ran away to get to his next class on time.
I huffed and walked to the entrance of the school, where a limo waits to take me home. So if you are anything like me... a famous Zodiac legacy holder, I would suggest dying because you are better doing that then surviving in this treacherous life. Everyone thinks I'm lying and I feel lower then dog food right now. I throw my school bag on the seat and put on my seat belt as the driver takes off from that school to take me home to the Zodiac mansion on the biggest hill. Maybe future generations will learn from my mistakes, they will have to have boring lectures about the times I got expelled.
So hear me out... nobody ever listens to me, nobody listens. I pull out my phone and open my messages which are blowing up from all the kids at school, all making fun of me and most say something like:
Dude! You got expelled!!
I didn't want to be a Zodiac... I didn't ask to be a Zodiac.
This the the sixth accident that has happen this year. This will be my sixth school I have gotten expelled from.
(((Hey!! This book has been moved to my A Date With Danger book!! Check it out!!)))
