Fight and Failure-Lily (Ch.7)

A/N: All future chapters will will be told in Lily's point of view, minus some closeups of others.

I look up over the little slit in the window of my cell, as golden sunlight comes through. Sigh. Just another day in custody.

I think about the guard who escorted me to where I was tested. What's his name again? Oh yeah right, Finn. He seems like one of those really quiet people in the corner, who no one ever wants to talk to, but there has got to be something deeper than the serious grimace. Like those flashing golden brown eyes, my mind blurts out. It's so hard not to fall for them; whoever he marries is going to be so lucky ...

Wait, what am I thinking? What am I thinking? I need to figure a way to get out of here, maybe with Hazel, Xander, and Mark as well, not compose romantic daydreams with a stupid grin on my face as my second death is lurking by.

I sigh and decide to take a nap, curling into a ball and squeezing my eyes shut into a dreamless sleep, about to recover all the rest I was missing, until some loud noise wakes me up.

"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" Hazel screams outside in the hall, as a tall, burly guard pins her writhing body down on the floor with a knife in his hand.

"I'm sorry, but the mistress has ordered for this to happen so she can keep track of you." He grunts. "And if you don't stop the chaos you're creating, then I'm afraid we will do the same to your silly little friends as well."

Hazel stops kicking for a few seconds to look him in the eye. "Son of a-"

Slice. Just one simple little golden cut lengthening itself from the bottom edge of her right eyebrow to her cheekbone.

Hazel gaps as she traces her finger over the new slash on her face. The scar that Ariel gave her in the cemetery is gone now, but it has been replaced by another one. She stays quiet all the time as she is escorted back to her cell, but as soon as the door locks, I hear a punch on the door and ... crying? I expected Hazel, being the aggressive person she is, to lash out and ... I dunno, kill someone. I fall asleep again, not waking up until way past midnight.

It's the tapping of my door. I open my eyes, and WTF there's this middle aged guy in a McDonalds outfit with that silver glow I have!

"What-" I begin, but he puts a finger to his lips and starts talking.

"Quiet, I am helping you get out of here!" He whispers in a British accent.

"And then what?" I ask.

"And take you to my kingdom where you'll be safe."

"Kingdom, seriously?

"Look, I'm fighting your kidnapper. If you want to escape, now's the chance!"

Okay Lily, just go with him. If he's a con, then you can just escape into the streets as a beggar or something. "Fine." I announce.

"Alright," He says, fumbling with some keys. He finds the right type, and opens my door with a creak. I get out, trying not to make any noise. When I was younger, I often pretended to be a secret agent, sneaking into hidden alleys at midnight, and solving cases by firing green lasers at criminals. Now, all that playing is starting to pay off.

Soon, Mark, Xander, and Hazel are out as well. Hazel's new scar gleams in the pale moonlight. We carefully tiptoe down stairs, across hallways, and through doors when I finally see the exit.

Just as we walk out, I notice some really nice pink orchid flowers growing in a blue pot. It won't hurt if I pick one, will it? I walk over, despite everyone else's confused glances, grabbing the stem of a nice sky colored blossom, brushing the petals, when ...

BEEP BEEP BEEP! Buzzers go off. Lights flash. Guards' footsteps sound. Hazel yells, "RUN!" but a gate has blocked the exit. I notice our helper running away off the streets. He got away without us. I can't help but think, Coward.

Soldier surround us, and the leader walks up to us.

"So ..." Ariel glances at us. "Who was guilty for planning this escape?" She licks her lips like a cat about to sink it's teeth into a plump, juicy mouse. "I'll show mercy by punishing only the leader because I'm very generous."

All of us are frozen in place. My mind is racing around in fear, thinking wordless thoughts, and my teeth draw blood from my bottom lip from biting. A silent scowl pasted itself on Hazel's face-How can she still scowl?-Xander is gripping his shirt tightly, while Mark looks down.

"Well?" Ariel prompts. "Who is it?"

After a long moment of silence Hazel squeaks, "It was me."

"The feisty one, huh?" She asks. Then she looks around with a raised eyebrow. "No, no it wasn't you." Her gaze settles on Mark. "It was him. Mr. Quiet over there may have built up a plot for escaping, but you're not as smart as you think. Guards!"

"N-no. I-it wasn't m-me. Please, m-ma'am." Mark stutters, face white as a well, ghost. Hazel quickly facepalms, then goes back to being scared.

"Or was it?" Ariel grins. "I will give you ten seconds to decide who the culprit was. The rest of you will stay in your cell. With extra supervision, if needed."

We don't do anything for five seconds, then finally both Hazel and I say, "It was me," stare at each other, then snap, "No, not you, me!"

"I'll take all of you," Ariel sneers. She touches a light switch. "One little click and you all go unconscious."

"DON'T YOU DARE, JACKASS!" Hazel screams, tackling her with all her might. Ariel snarls and swings something at Mark. He doesn't have enough time to dodge it before it hits him. He blinks for a few seconds, then scowls at all of us

"What are you doing, airheads?" Mark asks in disbelief. "Let her go. Or else, I will." And one snap of his fingers is all it takes for him to shut the lights. I begin running, screaming, doing everything I can to stay awake, but stars surround my vision, and I fall into darkness.
