Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

This is the story of how I died.

It was a day in late June. I had just come home from school. By the time I got home, the sun was nearly set, casting a golden glow around the house. A soft breeze was blowing, rustling the leaves of the giant tree in my backyard and gently swinging the tyre my father had set up for me to play on.

But there was something wrong. There was two unfamiliar shapes swinging alongside the tyre. Long, dark silhouettes, tied to the branch with a rope. Curious, I skipped towards them, my white dress billowing behind me. When I got close enough, I saw my mother, rope laced around her neck, her hair draped across her face, her limbs lifeless. Next to her, my father, in the same position, pale skin lit up in the dying rays of the sun.

My youthful mind could not comprehend what I saw. I spent hours that fateful afternoon shaking them, calling their names until even the moon went to sleep.

I could not bear the thought of sleeping on my own in the house. It was giant, with a maze-like layout and many places for monsters to hide.

I curled up underneath the lifeless bodies of my mother and father, their feet gently brushing against my side when there was a gust of wind.

In the middle of the night I woke up, shivering. I was so cold. But I would not leave my parents.

In the morning, that was where they found me, a little girl in a white dress, frozen to death from the cold winter's night under the bodies of her suicidal parents.

From,
Ella-Lou
