The Mysterious Wolf
We were here, in the vast forest of Romania.
I walked through the greenery, my friends back at camp about a mile away. I was exploring the area where Dad had gone missing, searching for clues.
I found none.
I had been searching for hours, and found nothing. I kicked a rock in frustration, my toe throbbing as I watched it fly through the air and hit a tree.
I heard a loud growl coming from behind.
I turned to the sound, and screamed. It was a wolf. Black as night, bright yellow eyes, with fangs as long as my fingers. Standing on all fours, it was taller than me. More growls shook the forest. I spun around. I was surrounded by black wolves, each one had their fangs bared, growls ripping from their throats.
I yanked out my wand and shot a hex, but it simply angered the wolves even more. They began to circle me, eyes alight with fury and hunger. I screamed again, but it was of no use. My friends coouldn't hear me, and even if they could, they wouldn't be able to save me. The lead wolf howled before leaping towards me.
I closed my eyes and waited for death.
But I heard howls of shock.
I opened my eyes to find a brown wolf attacking the black one. The wolves cowered back as the leader fought the brown wolf. The brown wolf sent the leader flying, and the leader hit a tree. The brown wolf crouched in front of me in a protective stance, snarling at the wolves. The black wolf let out a howl of fury before running off, his pack following close behind. As soon as the black wolves were gone, the brown wolf turned towards me. I sank to my knees, my eyes screwed shut, waiting for the wolf to rip out my throat.
Instead, I felt the wolf nuzzle me gently.
I opened my eyes, staring right up at the wolf. He was calm, his eyes full of happiness. He was the same size as the blck wolves had been, but he seemed more like a gigantic puppy than a viscious wolf.
"Hey there," I said softly, standing slowly. The wolf did not move. He simply studied me, his eyes filled with happiness. A breeze blew up against my back, making my hair temporarily cover part of my field of vision. The wolf was suddenly tense, knashing his fangs together as if he were trying to resist something. When the breeze faded, the wolf slowly relaxed again.
I reached out and touched his snout. He nuzzled into my touch, and I giggled. "You're not a big bad wolf, are you?" I asked cheerfully. "Did you lose your pack?" The wolf shook his large head. I froze. "Can you undertand what I'm saying?" I asked slowly. The wolf nodded. "Wow," I said.
The wolf trotted off into the distance a little, turning back to face me. "What is it? Is something wrong?" The wolf shook his head. "You want me to follow you?" I asked. The wolf nodded again.
I thought for a second, but jogged up beside him. "Lead the way." The wolf set up at a brisk trot, me following close behind.

After about ten minutes, the wolf stopped by a cave. I panted as I stared down into it's depths. Suddenly, I saw it. A peacock-blue sleeve.
I ran into the cave and gasped. Dad's overcoat, wand, and notebook were scattered across the floor of the cave. "Dad?!" I called out, but I got no reply. I ran through the whole cave, calling his name, but I got no response.
I had found evidence.
But Dad was nowhere in sight.
