...
It was March when you transferred, the dawning of Spring where flowers bloom in different colours, where my life did gain colours again.
My mood right now is so unusual, wearing my poker face, I took my books out of my locker. Obviously, I need it for the next classes.
While taking my books, I knew someone laid her back to the locker beside mine.
“Hi, Aundrea,” Stella greeted me.
I closed my locker and I guess I'm brutal when it created a loud noise that echoed to the locker room.
I greeted Stella with a smile hoping that it'll change my mood. Well, psychologists say that when you smile, it sends a signal to your brain that makes you think you're happy, it will change my mood if ever.
“Know what, Aundrea, I got the news.” She looked onto her fingernails.
“Spill it, Stella, don't cut your words, it's irritating.” I rolled my eyes on her.
She chuckled before asserting, “There's a freshman on the same grade level as us.”
My lips automatically curved a smirk.
“In what section is he?”
“Duh, Aundrea, as if there's another section aside from ours.”
I sarcastically laughed and for the nth time, I rolled my eyes on her before leaving.
I bet he's already in our classroom so I chose to go there directly and I got it right. Someone with an unfamiliar face is sitting next to me.
I walked towards my table and leaned there looking at him.
“Oh, so you are the new student?” I asked him and smiled.
“I know that smile,” someone complained.
“Uh, yeah,” he answered.
“Well, welcome to our school but—” I intentionally cut my words and looked at his appearance as well as his dress. “You're an old fashion dude,” I added.
“Nothing is wrong with dealing with old fashion,” he answered while playing his pen on his fingers.
“So you're talking back?”
“Yes because that's how communication works.” I rolled my eyes and sat on my chair when the door opened.
“Good morning class, before we proceed, I want our new student to introduce himself first.”
“I'm Josh, I may be an old fashion dude but I can go on with the flow of your mind.” Wow, just wow.
“We all have our taste in fashion but—” our teacher choked.
“Does it have something to do with you, Ms Aundrea?” I smiled as a response that made him shrug his head.
“You really don't have any plans to stop, don't you?”
“I'll stop next time, probably,” I did avoid having eye contact.
“That next time will be next time again.”
I just found out that teasing you gives me fun for no reason.
I took Josh's pen and started to write something on a paper. He's out right now, maybe he's with some peeps and went to some parts of our campus.
Minutes later, he came back and started to look for the things that he left on his table a while ago before leaving.
“Hey, Aundrea, pardon but that's my pen,” he mumbled.
“Oh, this one?” I showed him his pen.
“Yes.”
“Well, I got it now so it's mine already.” I smiled and continued writing.
Instead of him being mad, he just sighed and brought out another pen. I love how he controls his anger. I secretly smiled.
One month. One month of teasing you. April, we became friends.
My eyebrows knitted. I know I'll regret not listening to the lesson a while ago but I am still regretting sleeping so early last night instead of doing this assignment.
“Need some help, Ms?” I frowned on the one who offered help, it's Josh.
“I won't give you the wrong answers, doesn't mean you always bully me, I'll do the same thing.” He chuckled as if he read my mind.
I was just staring at him, that's why he individually took my notebook and pen and started to write answers.
“There,” he said and put my pen and notebook back. My assignment is already finished, my blank notebook a while ago gained notes. I feel bad about doubting him and always bullying him.
“Thank you,” I said and fixed some of my things.
“Don't be so rest assured, I'll be asking a favour.” He chuckled.
“Spill.” I met his gazes.
“We'll be friends from now on.” He smiled.
I sighed. I guess it'll be the best thing I can give to him, I owe something. “Alright,” I agreed.
That month was full of memories! And what was more memorable? The end of the month.
It is the founding anniversary of our school today. I am wearing a black dress and am here in a corner drinking some juice. Well, beer or liquor is not allowed so juice might satisfy us.
“Doing fine here?” Josh asked. I didn't know that he's here already.
“Wow.” I looked at him from head to toe. “You don't look old fashioned with a tuxedo.” I laughed.
He smiled before mouthing, “You really are a bully.”
I looked at him and he's looking at me too.
“You know what, Josh, come with me.” I took his hand and pulled him. We escaped and went to the garden at our school.
“I hate parties, I feel dizzy about the lights,” I said and sat on a bench.
“Yeah me too.” He sat beside me.
No one is talking, all we can hear is the natural sounds from the environment and our breaths. I glanced at my screen.
“Did I already say something good to you?” I again met his mesmerising blue eyes.
“Hmm, I still can count it on my fingers.” He laughed.
“Well, it's one minute to midnight and I got you here right beside me.” I met his eyes and smiled and so he did.
“Then we'll be here concurrently until tomorrow.”
Next month. I didn't know that I'll be this excited to have another month in my life because usually, I don't really want to. The feeling of the notion that something painful will happen again.
“A pleasant daylight students! There will be no classes for today and we advise you all to go back home as early as possible. Again—” the announcer said.
I looked at the back of my seat. Josh’s eyebrows went up like he's asking me.
“Let’s go somewhere else,” I smiled.
“And where is that? They instruct us to go home early, Aundrea.”
“Come on, as if we're not old enough to take care of ourselves.”
“Alright, alright. Where are we going then?” I just smiled and took my bag, he did the same thing. We went to the park and had some chitchats.
“Do you know the story of Bonnie and Clyde?” I raised the topic while swaying my tights.
“Yeah, I guess everyone is.”
“I once thought of doing things as they did, you know, stealing.” I laughed.
“Then let's do it together,” he said, making me gawk at him.
“You? Going to steal? Are you making me laugh?” I uttered in disbelief.
“Yeah, sure, why not?”
Looks like he's serious. I looked around and saw a stall near.
“Ready to be my Clyde?” I laughed.
“Always if it's for you, Aundrea.” I shrugged my head and we went to the stall.
“Here, Josh. That CCTV can cover that part only and that one can cover those. By means, there is no CCTV that can catch us in the middle portion.”
We nodded to each other and walked in. Luckily, the one that is in the middle portion are chocolates, soft drinks, and junk foods.
I took chocolates and put some in my pocket. We took so many and put them inside our bags. We did our jobs as clean as it can be and got out as if nothing happened.
We looked back to the stall and laughed.
“That was fun!” He exclaimed and laughed.
“Yeah, we should do it again sometime.” I laughed and sip on the can of soft drink.
Deafening silence conquered us after. It was kinda awkward but he broke it.
“Hey, Aundrea.”
“Hmm?”
“I like you.” I was stunned for a while.
“You know what? We should go home already.” I took my bag and went in the other direction but stopped for a while.
“I like you too.”
After that confession, I thought everything would be alright but I got it wrong.
“So, this is our new relationship after the confession?” I asked when no one was talking while we're together. Still, he did not respond so I walked out of the cafeteria.
It's been weeks that we didn't talk to each other. In the last month of Spring, the cease of Spring, I knew that he likes someone new.
“Hey, Aundrea, can I talk to you?” I heard Josh.
“About what? To the girl you like?” I raised an eyebrow.
“You got the news.”
I looked at Josh. His white skin, his blue eyes, his pointed nose, his freckles on his cheeks, pink lips, his black hair. I just want to memorize every detail of him for the last time.
“Yes, and I heard that Jella is the lucky girl.” He didn't answer.
“I don't like her, you're the one I like—” I cut him off.
“Then look at my eyes and tell me that you need me, that you are happy with me.” He avoided my eyes.
“You can't, right? Come on, Josh, I know that you like me but you love her.” I smiled.
We became silent for minutes dealing with the different atmosphere that we're feeling right now.
I held both of his hands. “Go and find Jella, tell her that you love her.” At first, he’s hesitating but not long enough, he smiled.
I know that he's happy inside.
“Thank you.” He left.
A tear escaped my eye but I harshly wiped it. Today is the cease of Spring, the day my life lost its colours again.
