I walk into my cottage and hang my scythe in its usual place.
I see Morana on the sofa staring at me while smiling like a mad man.
"So," she starts. I raise a brow at her as I cross my arms. "How did it go? Did you have sex?" The words leave her mouth too eager for my comfort. My eyes widen at her words; for a moment, I'm frozen in shock.
I hold up my finger as a stern look crosses my face. "First of all, I will never, ever, ever, in a million years sleep with Lucifer," I state as her face cringes.
Ew, he may be hot, but I would never ever sleep with him. I crossed all that off my list over a century ago.
"That bad, huh," I let a scoff leave my lips at her words.
"He threw me against the wall and then threw me down the hallway," I state as I sit on the couch beside her.
If even possible, she cringes more. "Ouch."
I again scoff. "He didn't even know what I was, and he kept calling me an Angel." I cringe as the words leave my mouth distastefully. "He literally doesn't even know what we do for him," I roll my eyes, just thinking of the selfishness of the king of hell.
"So, I guess you are not going to be falling in love anytime soon." I cast a playful glare at Moranas words.
"I never was going to fall in love Mor; I'm just supposed to get him to trust me," I state, deathly serious, causing her to roll her eyes at me.
"Never say never, Thana, you'll get yourself in trouble." I roll my eyes at her remark. "When will you see him again?" She ask I hear a little bit of hope in her voice.
"Never," I quickly shut the hope down. She glares at me while sitting up.
"What did I just say?" I laugh at her words as she sends me a pointed look.
"Maybe I should shine some of my light on you," she threatens with a playful smile on her face as she lifts her hand, making a white ball of light appear. An odd combo we were, she was a reaper of innocence, I, the reaper of darkness.
I look away from the light cringing at the brightness.
"I'll pass," I state, causing her to giggle, the light disappearing from her hands.
*** Days Later**
It had been a couple days since I had last seen Lucifer, I hadn't seen him while dropping of souls and I always sigh in relief at the fact. Now I just need to speak to the Archangels and find a way out of this.
I look to Mor, telling me about the infant she had to carry to heaven. Mor loved children but hated collecting their souls; it was depressing for her.
I stand stretching my arms, looking at her. "I guess I'm going to go read; I feel someone about to die in an hour. "I state as I walk towards my room.
"I would need some alone time if I had to walk condemned souls to hell all the time." I smile as I turn and see her face scrunched up though she would instead take children to heaven than take criminals to hell.
"Its not to bad," I ease with a sigh.
It really is not so bad. I also take a couple of souls to heaven occasionally, though the condemned rarely bother me. The criers are the worse. I lay on the bed and grab the book I've been reading and start on it. I hear Mor walk out of the cottage.
***
Tingling through my body causes me to take my attention from the book, I stretch. I stand, putting the book in its place and walk towards the closet. I take my robe off and put it back in the closet. Magic made it to where every time a gown was placed back into the closet; it was magically clean.
I grab another and quickly put it on. The robe is black, like all of them, but is skin-tight, until it gets to my mid-thigh where it falls naturally to the floor. I fix the long sleeves and bring my hood up before walking out of the room and grab my scythe as my body starts to tingle more.
My wings break free and carry me from the cottage, and I quickly land on earth.
I walk among the buildings as I hear a commotion, two men arguing over drugs. One claiming the other killed their sister. I turn the corner as a gun is pulled, and bullets fly through the air. I see the light-skinned man fall harshly to the ground, blood pooling from around him. His curly brown hair surrounds his face covering his eyes.
As he takes his last breath, my scythe moves to its usual spot, putting a little hole. I grab the smoke and place it beside me; the man appears.
He looks at me, eyes wide and speechless. "Hello, Daniel," I speak slowly.
He quickly blinks as he takes my appearance in; to him, I look like a fallen angel. "I deserve it, I killed that man's sister," he swallows harshly.
I nod, great this one is easy, my wings spread out as I take his arm and fly away.
We land at the gates of hell. I will my wings back into me. I go on guard as I see a demon. Dark inky black creature with a robe, it hovers his body, not showing his figure. The hood covers his face as well.
Daniel looks at me, skeptically, "What's going on," he whispers to me.
"Not really any of your concern," I start, "but, basically, some demons try and steal souls to eat," I state as I look back at Daniel, who gulps. He takes a step closer to me. I turn my attention back to the Demon; I sense he is smirking. I get into a fighting position holding my scythe in both hands.
"I am not here for the... soul." The Demon hisses as he pauses, "Master sent me to collect you, I'm glad you didn't take long, the master doesn't like to wait," I tilt my head, this must be a trick, but a nagging feeling tells me. It's not.
The gates open, and the soul is sucked in.
I cast the Demon a glace as I turn about to leave when the voice of the Demon stops me in my tracks. "Wait, where are you going? Master awaits your presence."
I roll my eyes. "He might be your master, but he is not mine." My voice is clipped as I study the Demon waiting for his response.
A moment goes by as I wait for the Demon to respond. When it doesn't seem he is going to, I take another step but stop again at his words.
"Master has told me to either take you willingly or forcefully, your choice." My grip on the scythe tightens at his words. I sigh as I turn. I could take him, but I haven't gotten out of this mission just yet, I need to play somewhat nice first.
"Fine," I will my scythe to turn into a pen, and put it in my pocket when it does. I look at the Demon, who turns towards the gate as they open.
I'm curious as to what the devil wants. Does he not have anything better to do? Gosh, why was I put in his path? Why wasn't Morana or some else?
Suddenly as we pass the gates, we are back into the previous hallway I was in last time. The Demon turns to me and does a quick bow "He will be right with you," the Demon then turns down a hall and disappears. I look around; I'm surrounded by endless hallways. Behind me is a door, what I would guess lead me back to the gates.
I start to wonder if I should just leave, but as the thought processes, a voice interrupts me. "Hello, angel." I roll my eyes at the name as I turn and see Lucifer.
My breath almost catches, he is in a clean suit, his face freshly shaved and hair perfectly placed. His eyes catch mine and hold them for a moment; I see his eyes Roam my body quickly before finding my eyes again.
"Your the first angel to look, well how you look," he states, sounding as if he is not trying to offend me.
"I already told you I am not an angel," I state my voice void of emotion.
I study his reaction; he explores mine.
"Well, what are you?" He ask.
I smile. I like this. I feel like I have power, not a lot, but a little bit of control over him.
"I already told you, I'm something you didn't know existed," I state calmly.
He tilts his head, "well, can I at least have a name."
I pause for a moment, thinking it over, my name wouldn't hurt. What could he find out from my name? It's not like us reapers had records. We don't play a significant role. We deliver souls; That is it.
"Thana," I state after a minute passes.
"Death," he smirks. My eyes widen at the mention of the meaning behind my name. It looks like Lucifer is educated.
"Are you a death angel." I roll my eyes at his obsession with me being an angel.
A death angel basically set up different scenarios of how people could die in their lifetime. They studied patterns and all that jazz.
"No, not an angel," I state firmly.
His eyes start to study me again. I roll my eyes as I turn, bored of this game. I start walking away from Lucifer, ready to go home. Why did I even come here? I could have fought that Demon easily. Oh yeah, that stupid mission from the stupid archangels.
"Where are you going." I turn my head at his words. The genuine confused expression made my lips twitch to smile. It made the devil look adorable. Sinisterly adorable.
"Home," I state. "I don't see why you requested my presence in the first place."
I see his shoulders shrug in response. "Curiosity," he takes lazy steps towards me, "I've never seen an angel look like you before." I see his eyes glance over me.
I scoff, "do you not listen, I am not an angel." I glare daggers at him; he returns the daggers full force.
"Watch your tongue, angel." I groan at his words as I turn and walk quickly away.
Suddenly a warm hand touches my arm, jerking me back. "I haven't dismissed you yet," Lucifer states sharply.
I look up into his dark red eyes. I almost lose myself in a trance, but his words parade around my mind angering me. "I don't need you to dismiss me; I'm not your fallen angel or your Demon. You don't control me."
A dark chuckle falls from his lips at my words, "Oh Angel, I don't need any formal control to control you." He starts as he brings me closer. "If I want you here you will come, if I want you to leave, you will leave, I have my ways, I'm the devil, it's what I'm known for."
I bare my fangs at him. "Don't flatter yourself, Lucifer." I yank my arm from his grasp. His eyebrows raise, he stares at my fangs, most people don't notice them until I flash them. So I'm not surprised.
I am ready to go; I don't like this mission, I feel differently towards the devil than I did the others.
I loathed Angels. Demons didn't bother me too much; they were just a job. Humans also a job. Reapers were like coworkers, except for Mor, she was more like a friend.
The devil, though, made me feel a pull to him, like a magnet.
"You are braver than the other Angel's." Lucifer tilts his head as he studies me. I groan, turning on my heels and quickly walking away.
"Where are you going?" His question reaches my ears, and I find my self more annoyed.
"I have business to take care of." I hiss as I go towards the door. I am determined never to see his face ever again.
