|Chapter 5|
"You'll be staying in the Hermes Cabin for now," Chiron explained, and lead Zoe to the rustic-looking lodge. Zoe wrinkled her nose. She would much rather prefer to spend her days in the library of an Athena Cabin, or the seafoam-smelling Poseidon Cabin.
"But my godly grandparents..."
"Have not claimed you," Chiron explained. "And this is just for tonight. A special cabin has been constructed for the legacies of demigods, now that the world has become safer for them and they are able to have children."
Zoe sighed and fiddled with her dark hair, wishing again that she wouldn't be trapped in a cabin that she didn't belong in.
Chiron walked her through the doors. "Kids, this is your new camper, Zoe," he explained. Campers in orange T-shirts looked up and smiled. All of their smiles were crooked.
"Regular or undetermined?" a kid asked. Chiron blew out a breath.
"Neither. Campers, this is Zoe Jackson, and she will be staying here for just this night." Whispers spiraled when the centaur mentioned her last name, and Zoe scratched the back of her neck. "I'll let you all become acquainted." He left. Everyone stood around staring at each other for a little while.
Finally, a camper swaggered forward and stuck out his hand to Zoe. He had ginger hair that stuck up in every direction and twinkling, mischievous eyes. His smile, of course, was perfectly crooked, like an evil genius's.
"I'm Tulip Stoll," he said. Zoe cocked an eyebrow as she shook his hand. He shrugged. "It was my mom's idea...you know, daughter of Demeter and all that. You can call me Tu. I'm a legacy or whatever, just like you - my dad and mom were demigods." Zoe brightened. Around her, campers were slowly circling in on her and Tu, but she didn't notice.
"Really? Will you be staying in the cabin?" Tu nodded, and Zoe was overjoyed to see that she wasn't alone, and was going to ask him more questions, but a stick-thin girl with oversized glasses reached in and swiped her backpack and duffel bag.
The rest of the Hermes cabin was later seen running around camp with sticky notes taped to their back saying I'm a loser and I deserve to jump in the lake because I messed with badass Zoe Jackson. They also had strange tulips growing in their beds when they returned.
Chiron chucked when he saw a particularly creative sticky note telling where exactly a certain girl should stick her glasses.
"Just like her parents," he chuckled.
