Chapter 9: Part II

Earenniel's P.O.V

Location: Mirkwood Forest

The air was heavy and stale, musty and foul with the scent of decay. The smell of death surrounded this forest, and there was no end.

Like I said before there was no color and there was still none. Perhaps the only color came from the spider's webs. And the's were some large think webs, making me think these spiders are bigger then I have feared.

I have never been fond of spiders after Athena had told me why she feared them so...to the point was even her children inherited the same fear.

I hoped we will not encounter any spiders, but I couldn't shake this feeling that something was out there.

She could feel the forest trying to worm its way into her thoughts and it was exhausting trying to keep it out. The dwarves seem to have a harder time they were unsteady on their feet.

"Air. I need air," Bofur cried from beside her.

"My head, it's spinning." Oin said.

Thorin signaled for Nori to continue on. Nori was the Dwarf leading the front end of the line. everyone in front of me stops and suddenly run into each other as Nori stops abruptly.

"What's happening?" Oin asked.

"Keep moving." Thorin ordered.

"Nori, why have we stopped?" I asked. He was the one in the beginning of the line, leading us through the path.

"The path! I can't find it, It's disappeared!" Nori exclaims and my heart drops.

Oh no, Gandalf gave me one task and I broke it. How could I have just let them be? I should have pestered them to keep an eye on the path or maybe I should have led this group instead of letting Nori do it. I was least affected by the forest. I still had hoped we would find it again.

"No, we just wandered too far from it." I said noticing that we were standing at the edge of a cliff. "I don't think the path through Mirkwood wood leave off a cliff....Let's double back." I say.

"Find it. All of you look. Look for the path!"Thorin said angrily with slight panicked.

The dwarves are all muttering and rambling as they wander about Trying to find the path.

"It's got to be here." Dori said.

"What hour is it?" Thorin said in a slurred voice.

"I don't know. I don't even know what day it is." Dwalin answered, his voice just the same as Thorin.

"Is there no end to this accursed forest?" Thorin asked.

This forest is beginning to affect us mentally, though I'm not sure how. There must be a reasonable explanation, Why the dwarves have only acted this way upon entering the forest of Mirkwood.

I glance over to see Bilbo absentmindedly pluck a spider web. It vibrates when he lets go of it. The vibrations continue through the variously linked spider webs and I'm guessing far off to the forest where the webs end. He shouldn't have done that.

Bilbo goes to pluck the web again, and I stop him. Doing it again will only signal the spiders.

We continue walking I feel as if we were going in circles. I watch as Ori bends down, I guess he sees something on the ground and I follow his gaze to see a tobacco pouch.

"Look." Ori said calling Dori over.

"A tobacco pouch. There are dwarves in these woods," Dori said, picking up the tobacco pouch.

"Dwarves from the Blue Mountains no less. This is exactly the same as mine." Bofur said.

"It's yours, we are going around in circles and I'm the only one sane enough to realize." I said.

"We're lost." Bilbo said.

Dwalin shook his head.

"We're not lost. We keep heading east." Dwalin said.

"But which way is east? We've lost the sun," Oin pointed out.

The dwarves began bickering and fighting with each other, I stayed out of it. What has gotten into them? Must be this Forrest. Why it's not affecting me like it is them, I do not know.

"The sun. We have to find the sun. Up there. We need to-" Bilbo stopped what he was saying as a strange Whispering sound was heard throughout the Forrest.

"What? What's that?" Thorin asked circling around trying to pin point where the sound was heard. Everyone was still conversing among their selves.

"Enough! Quiet! All of you!" Thorin yelled.

"We're being watched." He finished after everyone stopped talking.

"I could have told you that, I felt a presence of many, once we set foot in this forest." I said.

Bilbo began to climb a tree, but no one seemed to notice, but me.

"Bilbo, what are you doing?" I asked.

"Don't worry, I'll be right back I need to see which direction we need to go." Bilbo said.

"Alright, hurry back." I say.

"Did you hear that?" Kíli whispered. "It came from over -" I felt a presence behind me I got my bow and arrow ready to kill it, but for the first time on this quest. I was too late.

"Earenniel behind you!" Kili yelled.

"A little late for that." I mumbled after I felt a stinging pain in my back. First I was paralyzed, then my eyes closed and I saw no more.

Earenniel P.O.V.

Location: Mirkwood Forest

My eyes shot open, the only thing I could see was the thick web surrounding me in a cocoon. My arms were pressed against my body, tightly.

A few minutes pass when I began to get my strength back in my arms and legs. I started to move my body in the hopes of loosening the webs in order to grab one of my weapons.

"Hang on, Earenniel." Bilbo's voice said to me, never have I been happier to here his voice.

"There will be a little bit of a drop but the ground is soft with leaves." Bilbo said.

"Bilbo wait -" I said, but didn't finish my sentence.

I felt myself falling, when I landed on the ground it did not feel like leaves.

"Bilbo, you're a liar! I did not land on soft leaves.

A moan came from underneath me.

"I am so sorry, whoever did I land on?" I asked.

"Kili, at your service." He mumbled through the webs guess he was still stuck as well.

"Thanks for the soft cushion kili." I say when finally brake myself free I help the rest of the company out of there cocoons with my daggers quickly slicing the outer edge of the cocoons in order to free my friends.

A loud rustling of the trees was heard throughout the forest, but it was aimed in our direction. The sound got louder as it inched closer to us. When the spiders came into view, I got my sword ready to fight them.

With my mother's sword in my hand, I joined the fight, slicing the spiders legs off.

"Where's Bilbo?" Bofur asked.

"Last I 'heard.' he was helping me get free from the webs in the tree." I said.

"So he should be-" I said, but got cut off by hearing Bilbo's voice.

"I'm up here!" He said.

"That answers that." I said.

Bombur is then knocked to the floor by a spider resting on top of him about ready to bite him.

"Grab its legs!" I yelled seeing Bombur who was writhing underneath the spider, trying to keep it from biting him.

With a sickening pop, The spiders collapsed on top of Bombur spraying something disgusting once the spider's legs were removed.

"Hurry!" Thorin Screamed once we defeated the spiders they were now lying dead on the ground.

We began running through the trees as more spiders were gaining ground on us quickly, some cut us, suddenly landing in front of us.

We were surrounded.

The creatures hissed at us which only caused me to grip my mother's sword tighter.

I sudden noise that wasn't that of a spider cause me to look at me. With my keen eye sight, I spotted an elf in a green tunic sliding down a strand of webbing.

He landed on a spider, killing it quickly. He leaped from its dead back and slid under another spider that was nearing Thorin.

He killed that spider as well slicing it in half coming up with an arrow already nocked and aimed at Thorin.

Several other elves appeared They all their bows nocked with arrows aiming them at us.

"Do not think I will not kill you dwarf. It will be my pleasure." The blonde elf says to Thorin.

I narrow my eyes at the elf My attention then goes to the dwarves and we look around to see that we are completely surrounded and outnumbered by Mirkwood Elves, all with drawn bows aimed at us.
