Chapter 10: Part II

Earenniel POV

Location: Thranduil's Throne room

"Some may imagine that a noble quest is at hand. A quest to reclaim a homeland... and slay a dragon. I myself suspect a more prosaic motive. Attempted burglary. Or something of that ilk. You have found..." Thranduil paused examining The dwarfs facial expression. Then he continued.

"...a way in. You seek that which would... bestow upon you the right to rule. The King's Jewel. The Arkenstone. It is precious to you beyond measure. I understand that. There are gems in the mountain that I too desire. White gems... of pure starlight. I offer you my help." Thranduil said with a bow of his head.

     "I am listening." Thorin said.

"I will let you go... if you but return what is mine." Thranduil offered.

"A favor for a favor." Thorin said, confirming what Thranduil said, and began to look contemplative.

"You have my word. One king to another." Thranduil said.

Thorin didn't speak for a moment, but his anger and hatred towards the elf got the better of him, not even thinking twice about his next words.

"I would not trust Thranduil... the great king... to honor his word... should the end of all days be upon us! You... who lack all... honor! I have seen how you treat your friends. We came to you once, starving, homeless... seeking your help. But you turned your back! You turned away from the suffering of my people... and the inferno that destroyed us." Thorin yelled in anger.

And his words angered the elf king.

Thranduil's face got close to Thorin's. The elf magic that once covered Thranduil's face disappeared, revealing scars on one side of his face and his blinded eye.

"Do not talk to me of dragon fire. I know... its wrath and ruin. I have faced... the great serpents of the North. I warned your... grandfather of what his greed would summon. But he would not listen. You are just like him. Stay here if you will... and rot. A hundred years is a mere blink... in the life of an Elf. I'm patient. I can wait. And someone send for Legolas, I wish to speak with him once more." Thranduil ordered as the dwarf king was dragged towards the dungeons.

Third Person P.O.V.

Location: Thranduil Throne Room

"Why have you never told me I had a sister? Is it true?" Legolas said getting straight to the point once he entered the throne room.

"Yes, she is your mother's daughter, but she is not mine."

"You have no right to treat her in such ways."

"I can treat her in any way I please, I am the king."

" In any way? Would you torture her? Would you go so low, as to use the methods of our enemy."

     "No, never."

"That is how our mother died, isn't it?...I was there, I watched as they brought her body. She was cut and bruised beyond repair to the point were even lord elrond couldn't save her."

"Legolas you made your point, no harm will come to her. I promised your mother she will always be welcome."

"Your seeing him, the one they call Poseidon. I heard rumors from your father that you loved another. I didn't think they were true." The king turned away sadened by how he was desived by his wife.

"I carry no feelings for him anymore Thranduil, your the only Ellon I love Besides Legolas." She says.

"How Is this love?,  if you go behind my back to see him." Thranduil said.

"I'm not seeing him." Ellerian said walking into Thranduil's view.

"then who is it your seeing." Thranduil asks.

     "My child!" She says.

"You had a child with him?!" Thranduil yells.

"Thranduil, Let me speak." She says and he goes silent, so she assumes she should continue.

"This was years before I married you and we had Legolas...My Feelings are only for the child, not him. Poseidon understands this. He wished us the best In love." she finishes caressing his cheek.

"You could've told me." He says.

"I couldn't risk anyone finding out about my daughter. she just means so much to me." Ellerian says.

"I wish I had trusted you more." Thranduil said caressing her cheek in return.

"Im glad I finally told you, this burden was to much wait on my shoulders." She says.

"As it should've been." Thranduil said understanding now what she was going through all these years without her child.

"Promise me something Thranduil." She says.

"What is it you wish for me to promise?" Thranduil asks.

"Promise me she will be welcome in this kingdom, if she so returns. Even if she is not your daughter by blood, She will be treated by you as if she was." She says.

"I promise. She is your daughter and you are my Queen. She will always be welcome here. Now tell me, What did you name her?" he asks.

     "Earenniel." She says.

"fitting name for the daughter of Poseidon." He says.

"How old is she be now?" Thranduil asked.

"1,000...but time runs slower where she is. she is still but only 98. In mind she is younger then Legolas, She always will be." Ellerian said.

"I think Legolas would like having a younger sibling." Thranduil said.

"I will send a letter to her then, for her to read when she comes of age. I'll write it on the way to Aearlondell." She says.

"I think that is a wonderful Idea, she would love that." Thranduil says.

" It is just that my father knows about her and he never approved of me with Poseidon. He'll never Welcome Earenniel like you will. Galadriel told me to send her away for her own protection. It pained me to give her away. Poseidon gave my some of his pearls do I could come visit her where he lives on Atlantis." She says as tears began forming in her eyes.

"Do not cry my love. It was for the best. A war is brewing. Orcs are getting bolder, Crossing our borders more often now. You can no longer travel between worlds give me the Pearls, I'll keep them safe." Thranduil said.

"The rest are in my jewelry box, I trust in you to keep them safe while I am away." Ellerian says.

"Of course, and when you get back I will have a surprise for you." Thranduil says.

     "Do tell." She says flirting.

"It is being made as we speak, the dwarves are giving me a helping hand in creating a beautiful necklace to go around your neck." Thranduil says.

"I look forward to seeing it then." She says smiling.

They began walking back to the palace.

"Let's get you dried up for your ride to Aearlondell." Thranduil says.

"That was the last I saw your mother." Thranduil says.

"You already broke the promise you made to the mother, she does not feel welcome. She was heartbroken when I closed the cell doors. like she new what it was like to be caged in a trapped." Legolas asked.

Thranduil gave what his son said a good thought. This isn't how he wanted to treat his wife's daughter.

"I will free her, she can even enjoy tonight's festivities if that is what you wish. Is there anything else you'd like to speak to me about, ion-nin? It looks as though you have something on your mind." Thranduil said.

"Tauriel, she fought well today." Legolas said.

"Indeed. She fights well, though you did not need to tell me that." Thranduil said.

"That will be all ada, shall I send a guard to release my sister?" Legolas asked.

"You've grown fond of her already?" Thranduil asked.

     "Of course." Legolas said

"you do not know her." Thranduil said.

"I will...and you should to." Legolas said.

"....Yes Legolas, you may send a guard to release her." Thranduil replied letting his son leave him.

Third Person POV

Sometime later....

"I know you're there."  Thranduil said. Keeping his gaze unmoved.

"I was coming to report to you." Tauriel said coming away from where she was eyeing Thranduil from the shadows.

"We cleared the forest as ordered, my Lord. But more spiders keep coming up from the south. They are spawning in the ruins of Dol Guldur if we could kill them at their source... " Tauriel finished.

"Other lands are not my concern. The fortunes of the world will rise and fall, but here in this kingdom, we will endure." The Elven King intruded.

" Now, the Elf in my dungeons, I want you to remove her from her cell and Show her around, but under no circumstances is she aloud to leave these halls. Give her a royal room and some clothing, Get her out of those Aearlondell rags." Thranduil says.

"Yes my lord." Tauriel says She was on her way to leave but the king stopped her.

"Legolas said you fought well today." Thranduil told her.

Tauriel stopped and turned to look at him.

"He's grown very fond of you." Thranduil continued and her cheeks flushed with shyness as she made sense of what The elven king was telling her.

"I assure you, my Lord, Legolas thinks of me as not more than a Captain of the Guard." Tauriel said.

"Perhaps he did once. Now I'm not so sure." He turned to look at her.

"I do not think that you would allow your son to pledge himself to a lowly Silvan Elf." She said as her hand was placed on her heart.

"No, you are right, l would not. Still, he cares about you. Do not give him hope where there is none." The king said.

His words pierced her with a bitter sting. While she understood her place in the kingdom, hearing how little her King thought of her and her station hurt her deeply. It's true, she felt that Legolas was harboring feelings for her, feelings she could not return because she loved him like a brother and nothing more.

He was her dearest companion. The one who was always there for her when she needed him. Still, hearing that she would never be, considered good enough to truly be part of his family filled her with sadness. Thranduil was the one who raised her these past 600 or more years.

...She left the Great Hall and headed towards the Dungeons where she stayed for the remainder of the time that Mereth Nuin Giliath was happening. She didn't feel at all up to the festivities going on tonight. so, she is going to do the one thing she is good at, being the captain of the guard. Following the king's orders.
