Chapter 15 : Dol Guldur

The battle was over.

Legolas trembled at having to face Elenwë.

Elenwë was approaching.

Legolas began to panic. Aragorn restrained him by putting his hands on his arms.

-If you run away... it will make things worse.

-I... heard.

Legolas sat up, waiting for Elenwë to come to his level.

Her anger had vanished. She felt calmed.

She was saddened that Legolas did not trust her abilities, but she no longer resented it.

She had felt that he was angry, and that was punishment enough.

Elenwë came to stand in front of Legolas, twenty centimeters away from him.

Legolas, she noticed, was shaking.

Was he afraid? Afraid of her? That was what bothered her.

Her companions, even Gandalf, looked at her with a certain glint of fear in their eyes.

Dismayed, Elenwë took off her helmet and looked at her four companions with a sigh.

-How can you believe that I could hurt you? I am hurt that you do not trust me more.

They lowered their eyes.

-Do I scare you?

They had no need to answer. Their eyes spoke for them.

-I would never... I would never do anything to hurt you.

They seemed more relaxed except for Legolas.

She looked into his eyes.

-Legolas... I'm not angry with you anymore. But I am disappointed that you thought me so weak.

Legolas looked down in shame.

-I... I am sorry, Elenwë.

-Do not apologize! I understand your concern, but I want you to know that I am at least as strong as you are.

She held out her left hand to Legolas.

-The left hand symbolizes the hand of the heart. It seems to me that it is very suitable for reconciliation. Let's shake hands and forget about it.

Legolas shook her hand and she smiled at him.

-Let us rejoice! Victory is ours!

Elenwë's armor suddenly disappeared and Gimli looked at it curiously:

-Where did this armor come from?

-From the vault of heaven. Its material was star steel. Stronger than Mithril my dear Gimli.

-How do you know that?

-I just know. It was a gift from Tilion. Well, let's go and see how the survivors are doing.

They entered the citadel. Between the five of them, all quarrels had ceased and they were happily talking while walking.

Elenwë broke the water barrier that surrounded Haldir.

-Haldir! My friend! Wake up!

Haldir blinked, coming to his senses.

-I am quite rested, what have you done to me?

-I have begun your healing. All you need is a little rest. Within a week you will have recovered all your faculties.

-Thank you, Elenwë. Thank you very much. Without you, I would have died.

-It is fortunate that I arrived in time.

-Yes.

They smiled at each other and Haldir hugged the young elleth.

-When you were little, if I could have guessed that you would save my life! he said with a laugh.

-So it goes! Elenwë replied happily.

As they spoke, a strange looking man appeared. He was very bright and dressed in white.

He bowed to Elenwë and said:

-We need your help.

-I follow you.

An armor quite similar to the previous one appeared on the young elleth.

She greeted her companions, whispering to them:

-I will return as soon as I can.

She climbed on Windlay's back and set off down what appeared to be a path of moonbeams.

Other light warriors accompanied her to her destination.

In the still deep night, before the moon, Elenwë appeared, overlooking a battlefield.

-Where am I? she asked.

-You are in Dol Guldur. King Thranduil and Lord Celeborn are outnumbered fighting an army of orcs.

-What is my mission?

-To save him, to lead them, and to prevent the death of as many elves as possible.

-I'll do it. Thank you.

The spirits of light disappeared, leaving Elenwë alone to face the desolation that lay beneath her feet.
