Chapter 29 - Trouble at the Cape of Twins

Hey guys,

it seems there was a little misunderstanding regarding the songs you could vote for.

Regarding the Davy Jones Lullabuy, of course it wouldn't last that long. I just haven't found a shorter music box version.

And when it comes to Song of the Sea, you have to imagine that it sounds like a normal music box, so no singing.

I apologize again for this confusion and if you want, you can of course change your vote regarding the song.

Luffy couldn't stop grinning as the wind rushedpast her. She had to close her eyes for a moment as the Going Merry hurtledthrough the cloud cover. When she opened it again, she could no longer see thevast blue of the Grand Line. But this only meant that they were getting closerto it. Sanji, who had climbed into the rigging, had raised a hand over hiseyes, trying to see something in the thick clouds. "That's the greatestthing!" Usopp, who was still holding on to the mast, couldn't stopgrinning. A small smile was on Zoro's face while Nami screamed in joy. However, the black-haired woman remained still when a loud noise suddenly sounded. "Didyou just hear that too?" the green-haired man asked no one in particular. "Huh?What?" Nami shouted into the wind. "I just heard a strange noise!""That must have been the wind," said the navigator before turning herhead forward again, "There are lots of strange stone constellations herethat could be responsible for it." The noise sounded again, this time evenlouder than before. Luffy frowned. She couldn't say why, but to her the sound soundedsomehow...sad.

Before anyone could say anything, however, something suddenly began to rise from the slowly clearing clouds in front ofthem. Something big. "What is that?" Usopp wondered and pulled down one of theadjustable lenses. "Nami, I see a mountain right ahead!" Sanjishouted as he began to see it a little better. It almost seemed as if agigantic black wall was rising out of the middle of the water. "Amountain? That can't be true!" "But I see it clearly with my owneyes!" "Who cares? Let's go!", the straw hat wearer called over hershoulder. She couldn't get it out of her head that whoever or whatever wasresponsible for that noise sounded so sad. As if someone were calling out tosomeone, only to receive no answer. She shook her head vigorously to drive awaythe emerging memory. "Don't think aboutit! That's a thing of the past." "After the twins' cap, only thesea should be there!" Luffy was taken aback when the huge wall became moreand more clearly visible. She narrowed her eyes and raised a hand to block someof the sun. As far as she could tell, whatever was in front of them didn't looklike rocks or stone. "If I didn'tknow better, I'd almost say it's...skin." But that couldn't be thecase. Animals that big didn't exist. Although...when she thought about theanimals on Dawn or the sea kings... However, she didn't get any further withher train of thought when the clouds cleared completely in front of them andoffered a clear view of what lay in front of them. The five stared in shock atthe monster rising out of the water in front of them. "That's not a mountain!""That's a black wall!" "You're wrong! That's..." "Then what isthat?!" "IT'S A WHALE!!!" the black-haired man screamed inpanic.

The whale roarde again as the Merry racedunhindered towards him. "W-w-w-what do we do?!" "Fighthim?" "You idiot! We can't fight something like that!""T-th-th-the current is pushing us straight towards him! What should wedo?" "Wait a second," Sanji began, a lump slowly forming in histhroat as he realized something, "We're so close and it still looks like awall. So where are the eyes?" "You're right," Nami exclaimed, looking at the blonde, "It could be that it hasn't noticed us yet."Zoro had changed his stance before remarking: "If it continues like this we'regoing to ram right into that thing." His eyes darted to the side as henoticed something and quickly turned to the others. "Hey, there's an opening onthe left! Port side. Hard port!" Usopp had rushed to the galley as quickly ashe could, only to face the next problem. "The rudder is broken!" How could theyforget that?! "We have to do something, damn it!" Zoro shouted, jumping over the railing down to the deck before running towards the galley."Wait, I'll help!" "Wait, I have an idea!" Luffy shouted, jumping up and running down into the anchor room. "Luffy?" Namilooked after the younger girl before she disappeared from her field of vision."What are you planning to do?" Meanwhile, the boys tried to pull together onthe remains of the steering wheel to somehow change their course. They hadgritted their teeth when the brown-eyed man said: "Pull! Pull! It just doesn'tmove!" "There's no point!" "Don't give up!" But the rudder didn't move an inch.Their veins began to protrude as the Merry got closer and closer to the whale.Completely frozen, the orange-haired woman stared at her impending end when shesaid almost barely audibly: "It's too late."

"This has to work! This has to work! This has to work!" Meanwhile, Luffy had loaded the bow cannon and lit the fuse. For a moment the room was completely dark before a shot was heard. Nami lost her balance and landed roughly on her bottom as an explosion rocked the Merry, just before the near collision. "THE CANNON?!" the four shouted in shock as they had already ended their lives. "Yosh. Did we stop?" asked Luffy, who had her hands on her hips and was standing in the doorway. Her idea had more or less worked. They didn't stop, which wouldn't have been possible anyway because of the current, but the Going Merry had slowed down a lot. However, the ship still crashed into the whale. There was a small vibration and something broke. Nami, who was lying on her back at the bow, stared up into the sky and didn't even notice that something large, wooden flew over her. "Oh crap...that almost finished me off." Luffy took a step back in surprise as something landed on the deck in front of her. She screamed in shock when she realized what it was. It was the sheep's head of the Going Merry, the figurehead. "AHHHHH, MY FAVORITE SPOT!" However, the others didn't pay attention to their captain's shouting. They stared nervously at the whale. Expecting a reaction every second. But it continued to stick out of the water, motionless. Zoro swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat. "ROW AS FAST AS YOU CAN! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!" Sanji and Usopp didn't need to be told twice. The two of them and the green-haired man had taken the oars and were paddling as fast as they could. "What's wrong with the beast?" Usopp stammered, holding on to the railing in fear. "Didn't it even notice it was hit by a cannon?" Sanji asks no one in particular as they began to maneuver past the whale. "Who cares? Just row!"

They had not quite passed the height of themouth when the whale uttered its voice again. The roar was so loud that itshook the calm waters and left the ears of the Going Merry's crew ringing. "Myears!" "Just keep rowing!" the black-haired man shouted to the Smutje next tohim. He would love nothing more than to cover his ears, but he would ever morelove to be as far away from this monster whale as possible. "We have to get outof here!" shouted Zoro, who was rowing alone on his side. "Where the hell is Luffy?!"

The ship had just reached the level of the Eyewhen Luffy returned to the bow, clenching he fists in anger. Nami, who had nowsat up again, looked surprised at the straw hat wearer. She could clearly seethe anger in her eyes as she stopped in the middle of the deck. "Luffy?" Butthe person addressed didn't pay attention to the orange-haired woman. Herattention was solely focused on the oversized fish. "Hey, you..." the brown-eyedwoman began, swinging her arm, "destroyed my favorite spot!" She struck and herfist landed, much to the horror of her crew, right in the eye of the whale. Herarm snapped back as she continued to glare at the animal. For a moment theothers thought the whale hadn't noticed, like the cannon. But their hope wasquickly dashed when the giant mammal's pupil landed on them. However, the youngPortgas did not allow herself to be distracted by the resulting panic andscreams from her crew. "Hey, what's you're problem? Come here if you want to fight!"Before the black-haired woman could provoke the animal any further, Usopp andZorro came out of nowhere and kicked her against the railing. "Dammit! Shut up,Luffy!!" They looked nervously at the whale while Luffy stood up again andadjusted her straw hat. The whale's head seemed to slowly tilt until it was levelagain in the water. The whale opened its gigantic mouth and let out a loud roar.Tears had already formed in Nami's eyes again when she said:"Help...Luffy, why did you do that?" Through the whale's openedmouth, water began to flow into its gullet...and everything that was in theresulting suction. The Going Merry shuddered again as the suction hit it. Thefive screamed as they were sucked further and further inside. However, Luffy, who had just stood up again, tried to somehow regain her balance as she gotcloser and closer to the railing. "Oh no, I'm getting off the ship!"Before she could even try to hold on, she had already fallen sideways over therailing! "I'M FALLING!" "LUFFY!" "I don't want todie!" screamed the black-haired woman while she pressed her straw hat ontoher head with one hand. Her eyes landed on one of the massive teeth that the Merryhad already drifted past. Without hesitation, she shot her free hand to it andpulled herself out of harm's way. She knew this wasn't the most ideal place toland. As soon as she reached the tooth, she jumped off it and shot her armsupwards. Her hands found support and she pulled herself up. She didn't knowwhat she had grabbed - and silently wondered how it was even possible, sinceshe had always assumed that a whale's skin was smooth - and began to climb themonster. "I'm certainly not going to die here!" she gritted betweenher teeth, trying to shield her eyes from the splashing water. The screams ofher friends still rang in her ears as she climbed higher and higher.

Breathing heavily, Luffy sat on the whale's head, which had already closed its mouth again and was lying calmly in the water as if nothing had happened. As soon as the brown-eyed woman had her breathing under control, she stared blankly into space. "What do I do now? The whale swallowed the others." New anger began to form in the young Portgas as she jumped up and began hitting the whale with her fists. "Spit them out! Give me my friends back! Come on! Let them out! Quickly, otherwise...!" A small scream escaped her throat as the whale suddenly began to move beneath her. She looked around frantically, only to come to a terrible realization. "Damn it! The animal wants to dive!" With all the strength she could muster, she began to kick the whale. The slap of her sandals against wet skin seemed to echo in her ears. "Stop it! Stop! I told you to stop! Stop! Grrrr! Spit my friends out! They are still needed up here! Do you have trouble hearing?!" But the whale ignored the black-haired woman's nagging and continued to dive. With every second that passed, more and more of the gigantic animal disappeared into the water and Luffy lost more and more space on which she could stand on. "Stop it! I want to have many more adventures with them! These are my friends! Spit them out!" She saw something shimmering in the corner of her eye that caught her attention. She was surprised to see a hatch in the whale's back. "What's a hatch doing here?" However, she didn't have much time to think about it. The water has almost reached her and the rock face was too far away to try to swing to it. Without hesitation, Luffy ran to the hatch, opened it and climbed down the shaft just before the whale was completely submerged in the water. Coughing, she managed to close and lock the hatch at the last second. She shook her head to clear the water from her hair more quickly before continuing down the ladder.

Clueless, Luffy starts into the metal hallway infront of her. "Huh, what is that?" The entire hallway was covered with metalplates. There were a few wooden beams here and there, which were probablyintended for stability. There were levers at regular intervals on the walls, each connected to a lamp. She had killed and helped gut many animals in herchildhood, but she had never met an animal that seemed to be made entirely ofmetal on the inside. "Why does the whale have this hatch or even this strangepassage?" "Maybe I can find the others ifI follow it. It certainly can't do any harm." With this thought, the strawhat wearer set off.

She didn't know how long she had been followingthe hallway when suddenly everything began to shake. Surprised, Luffy tried to geta hold to the wall. However, she couldn't find any way to do it. Screaming, shebegan to bounce from one wall to the next, falling further down the hallway. "Sometimes I hate being a rubber human!"She began to feel dizzy as she said, "Everything is spining." Screaming, shefell out of the hallway, slammed into a wall, bounced off it into the oneopposite, before she ended up lying next to some kind of river. The straw hatwearer rubbed her head grumpily as she looked around the tunnel-like structure. The corridor from which she fell turned out to be a shaft that was opposite herand could be reached with a metal ladder. Like the shaft, the tunnel wascompletely lined with metal. However, the light provided by the lamps on thewalls was weaker than in the shaft. "Where have I ended up again? A sea? Ariver? A pipe?" Before she could get up, however, everything began to shakeagain. "Not again." Thetunnel suddenly began to slope down and she began to slide unchecked down thepath.

Somehow, during her involuntary slide, Luffy hadat least managed to turn so that she could more or less see where she wasfalling. She was still trying in vain to slow down with her hands and feet whenshe slowly began to see something in the darkness in front of her. Whatever itwas, it was huge. Despite her own screams, she was sure she heard voices. "I better warn whoever might be up there.""Out of the way, I can't stop!" The black-haired woman could now seethat the huge something was a door and there were two people standing in frontof this door. The light was too bad and she was too fast to see anythingclearly. Unstopped, she rammed into the two and a door that had been directlybehind them gave way under their combined weight, opened inwards and Luffy fellthrough screaming with the other two. On the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crewstared in disbelief at their captain and the other two people who had fallenout of the door into the whale's stomach. "Oh no, Miss Wednesday! There is ahuge sea of stomach acid beneath us!" shouted the male part of the involuntaryflight duo to his partner. He was a slim, young man wearing a green suit with awhite shirt underneath and a red scarf tied around his neck like a tie. On hischeeks were two strange marks that looked like the number 9. He also had short, orange hair and wore a golden crown on his head. His partner, Miss Wednesday,on the other hand, had long, light blue hair, which she tied into a highponytail with an almost entirely pink metal headband*. She had brown eyes, butyou couldn't see them at the moment because she was squinting her eyes. Shewore a top striped in different shades of blue, with a light green jacket overit with fur sewn onto the sleeves and collar. She also wore very short, whitepants that were held in place by a jeweled belt. Completing her outfit was apair of white high-heeled boots. "Luffy?" the black-haired woman suddenly heardher first mate's voice and looked to the side. "Hey, you're all doing well!"she shouted with relief when she saw her friends, before she remembered whatkind of situation she was in. "Oh, by the way: SAVE ME!" As soon as she saidthat, she landed in the greenish water below them. Immediately the curse of thesea made itself felt as she found herself unable to move even the slightestmuscle. But something was different. She knew that sea water stung her eyes, havinginvoluntarily experienced it first hand on more than one occasion. But shedidn't feel the usual kind of burning sensation. It wasn't just her eyes. Itwas like her whole body started to itch terribly. "What's going on? That has never happened before." A thought flashedthrough her mind. "Wait, didn't thatweird guy scream something about stomach acid?" At the same time,Usopp, Nami, Sanji and Zoro stared at the spot where their captain disappearedwhen Usopp said, "Looks like Luffy has caught up with us. But she broughtsome strange guys with her." "Hey, the old man is gone!" saidNami, who had looked back at the platform where the door was. "Whocares?" Zoro asked no one in particular as he prepared to jump into theacid, "We have to help Luffy."

Luffy sat cross-legged on the railing of the bowand rubbed the acid from his body as best as she could with a wet rag. Thefeeling of itching gradually decreased. "He's calmed down," saidNami, noticing how the water - she refused to call it acid if it was just tocalm her own nerves - was calming down again. "Looks like it," agreed Zoro, whohimself had put a towel around his shoulder before his gaze, and that of theothers, shifted to the two newcomers sitting on the deck in front of them. Itwasn't lost on him that both had huge bazookas in an iron grip as they werepulled aboard. The green-haired man had to fight hard not to roll his eyes whenhe saw the cook crouching down next to the woman with dreamy eyes. At firstglance he might have guessed she was his age or older, but upon closerinspection he noticed that she seemed more tob e in Luffy's and Usopp's age.**"So we saved your lives. Who are you?" That duo sat there with their headsbowed the entire time and avoided the gaze of the five pirates. The blue-hairedwoman leaned away from Sanji nervously before trying to speak quietly to herpartner. "Mr. 9, they're pirates." "I can see that, Miss Wednesday. But I think we can convince them...Maybe..." "Theyknow that we can hear every word they say, right?"

"Are you two scoundrels still here?" an oldman's voice suddenly rang out. Surprised, Luffy looked over her shoulder as hercrew also looked at the man on the platform. The man had long, white hair thatreached his shoulders and a beard that reminded Luffy of the tail fin of awhale, the way it splits in two directions. Brown eyes stared at her frombehind round glasses. Luffy tilted her head to the side in surprise as she sawthe purple-yellow petals that seemed to grow from the back of his head. He worea pink shirt with a wide yellow stripe down the middle with a pattern of greenfringes and black circles. Light gray fringed trousers reached his knees andsandals sat on his feet. On his left arm he wore various gold bracelets, one ofwhich was even set with large, green gemstones. On his other arm, Luffy noticeda large scar that seemed to run from his forearm to his upper arm. He also worea strange necklace around his neck that also appeared to be made of fringes."Don't make me repeat myself again! As long as I live, you won't lay a fingeron Laboom!" "Oh, he's back," said Usopp, still silentlywondering where the man had disappeared to. Luffy had turned to the Long-Nose."Who is the old man?" However, before anyone could answer her question, the twostrange birds began to giggle. "You may say that, but we can't just admitdefeat," said the blue-haired woman as she stood up and picked up one ofthe bazookas. "Killing the whale," her partner began as he also stoodup with his bazooka, "is our mission." Luffy furrowed her eyebrowswhen she heard this. "We won't let you continue to stand in the way of ourwhaling!" The two had turned around and were pointing their weapons atthe...sky? "We're going to put a hole through his stomach! Let's go,baby!" "Got it!" A shot rang out from the bazookas. The bullets flew toward apiece of sky that was near the platform. The old man quickly ran to the edgebefore jumping off and catching the bullets with his body. The crew stared inshock at the resulting cloud of smoke before the man emerged from it and felltowards the water. "The old man took the bullets!" "He reallyprotected the whale." Luffy's eyes narrowed as she heard a shrill laughbehind her. She slowly turned her head towards the source of the cackle andstared at the blue haired woman. "You better stop your pathetic attempt atresistance," she said as she stopped laughing for a moment. "If you want toprotect the whale so badly, then try again!" said her partner, grinning."This whale will serve as food for our city for a long time." Luffy'seyes had darkened as she looked at the two. Anger began to rise within her asthe two laughed. "The old man risked hislife to protect the whale. It have only caused us trouble so far, but if thewhale is so important to the old man..."

"What's going on here?" Nami asked no one in particular as she tried to understand what had just happened. The old man, who was miraculously still conscious, just looked at the two with gritted teeth. He was too old for something like that, but he could probably be grateful to his previous life that he had survived this attack more or less well. That's nothing compared to what he experienced on his ship. The black-haired woman had carelessly dropped the rag onto the deck when she stood up and slowly approached the two gunners with her head bowed. They didn't even notice her and didn't see the fists coming that hit their heads and hit each other before they fell unconscious to the ground. "Luffy?" asked Usopp, who was a little surprised by the straw hat wearer's action. The anger was still written on her face when she looked up again. "I just couldn't help myself. They got on my nerves with their talk." The old man, Crocus, was taken aback when he heard this. He had met many sailors in his life, whether traders, pirates or from the navy, but he had only met one person who would have reacted exactly like the girl. He shook his head. Now was not the time to reminisce.

"You really helped me tremendously. But why?" asked the person wearing glasses after they had tied up the two jokers. Crocus had already treated his wounds and was sitting back in his lounger on his small island/boat. The members of the Straw Hat crew kept him company. "I didn't help you," said Luffy, who tried to climb up the palm tree but was held by her vest by Usopp, "I just didn't want to see it." The old man looked questioningly at the straw hat wearer. A straw hat that also looked very familiar. "Hey, Luffy. What are you doing?" the black-haired man's voice sounded warningly. "What's with these guys?" Nami asks as she looked down at the two tied up people and put her hands on her hips. Her eyes went to the old man. "And what are you actually doing inside the whale?" "Now stop it. Hey, Luffy. What do you think you're doing?" "The two of them come from a nearby town. They're after the meat of the whale. Laboom could feed their city for two or three years." "Laboom?" "That's the name of the whale." Luffy had stopped trying to climb the palm tree when she heard this and looked at the old man. "He is a huge whale and originally comes from the West Blue. The largest whales in the world are at home there. How could I just allow him to be processed into food? The Straw Hats looked at the man silently as he continued. "There's a reason he keeps banging his head against the Red Line. And why he always turns towards Reverse Mounting." "A reason?" "Yes. This whale, you know, has the heart of a human. He is sincerely waiting for a certain group of pirates. And it's been that way for 50 years now."

* Does anyone have any idea what the thing Vivi was wearing is called? I searched like stupidly and found nothing.

** Honestly, I had never noticed this before Icame across this picture:

Do you notice anything? Apparently Luffy didn't just meet three princesses. But every time he met one, she was 16! Did Oda have a plan in place or is it just a gigantic coincidence?
