Chapter Four : Betrayal
Hey." Fatespeaker groaned. No...Don't wake me up... A bit of silence passed, then Fatespeaker was poked roughly. "WAKE UP!" The dragon roared. Fatespeaker's eyes opened a little.
"Hey! Tideweaver, what did we talk about?!" A new voice growled. A blurry figure hovered by Fatespeaker's snout for a moment. A webbed claw reached down and roughly poked her in the snout.
"Is she dead?" The first voice asked.
"I doubt it." A third voice cut in. This dragon was black and orange, frowning.
"Right!" The second voice said, nodding. Fatespeaker's vision was slowly coming to her. "When they knocked me out, I woke up only a few hours later." This dragon was red and black, with blue eyes and multiple scars across his body.
"Shhh!" The third voice said, shuffling closer. "She's coming to." Fatespeaker let out another groan.
"Wha...what happened?" She sat up slowly, and the red and black dragon gently pushed her down.
"We aren't exactly sure. All we know is you got conked by Prophetseeker and dropped off here."
"You got conked pretty bad!" The first voice said. They flexed their webbed talons and grinned. Fatespeaker shifted uncomfortably.
"Who are you?" Her head felt fuzzy. She couldn't remember anything except walking out of the classroom, wondering where Divine went.
"I'm Battlesight." The black and red dragon said. "The slightly insane poking one is Tideweaver. And the other one is Equinox." Battlesight pointed to each of the dragons in turn. Tideweaver narrowed her eyes and Fatespeaker shifted uncomfortably.
"Who are you?" Tideweaver hissed. Fatespaker looked around. They were in a small cave, open on one side, but bars lined the whole wall, patrolled by bad-tempered guards.
"Fatespeaker." She said absently. The cave went quiet and Fatspeaker blinked at the other prisoners, who were staring at her in shock.
"Like Fatespeaker Fatespeaker?" Battlesight breathed. "From the Dragonet Prophecy?" Fatespeaker winced.
"Um...sure?" Equinox raised an eyebrow, but Fatespeaker shifted her gaze away. Suddenly, a shriek rang out across the hallway. Fatespeaker dug her talons in.
"What. Was. That." She looked around at the other dragons and realized that they looked supremely unbothered by the shriek.
"Oh, just the RainWing next door." Battlesight yawned. Fatespeaker's mouth dropped open.
"But...WHO?" Tideweaver shrugged.
"How are we supposed to know?" He snorted. "He's been here longer than we have." Fatespeaker blinked. The sound of tramping talons suddenly rang out against the hall.
"Oh moons'..." Battlesight said, shrinking against the wall. For the first time, Fatespeaker suddenly noticed another dragon huddled against the wall, glancing at them all with emerald green eyes.
"Who's that?" She whispered to Tideweaver. Tideweaver narrowed her eyes suspiciously, but glanced towards the dragon.
"That's Nightleaf. He's the youngest, but he's been here most of his life." Fatespeaker glanced at the small dragon with a concerned look. "Now shush!" Tideweaver whacked Fatespeaker with her wings, ducking into the shadows.
"Why..." She began to ask, just as a blue and black NightWing stalked up. A sly smile was creased onto his face as he assessed Fatespeaker.
"So you're the new dragon!" He hissed, unlocking the door. Fatespeaker only blinked. "Well the queen is looking forward to seeing you." He cackled and Fatespeaker gasped. Queen? She thought worriedly. She suddenly lashed out, flipping her tail back and forth, slashing her claws. "OI! SOME HELP!" The dragon roared.
"I'm coming!" A voice said. It sounded...familiar. Then the dragon entered the light and Fatespeaker's eyes widened. The grayish scales. The intelligent green eyes. The silver swirls under his scales. The dragon, the traitor, the one she thought was her friend was none other than Slyeyes.
