Jax

"Listen up Thor, I'm going to open this door and you're going to stand down."

"FIND HER! Stop being an pussy and just walk in and take her. She's ours. Simple"

"Thor, let me handle this part. You know I'm better at it."

I smirked as he growled in agreement. I really was better at this part. No one could resist me and my charm. I slowly opened the door. At least that's what I wanted to have happen. Thor was so impatient, he sort of swung it open, giving me a boost of strength I wasn't ready for.

"Thor... I'm warning you...."

"Hey! There you are Jax!" Kyle said looking at me confused. "Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?" He stood up quickly, looking at my hands, and my dark eyes. It was only then that my father noticed and stood as well. My father growled a low growl, "Son, is something the matter?! Tell us now!" My fathers voice rang out through the hallway, he can sound really intimating when he wanted to be. At least for those who aren't used to it. I stood in the doorway, looking carefully around the room for a moment. My dad's giant desk in the center, surrounded by bookshelves filled to the brim with old worn books. There were no pictures on his desk, just neat piles of paperwork. His laptop was sitting in the center with multiple tablets sitting in wire file dividers, cords neatly trailing down the side of his desk. I couldn't sense anyone else in the room, and yet...

I cleared my throat trying to ignore the lingering scent in this room. "I'm sorry father, it's just my beast, he's acting up again." I plastered on a fake smile and tried to act normal, even though every bone in my body wanted to tear this place apart finding the source of this scent. Both my father and Kyle exchanged looks. My father, looked worn. He's almost completely gray now. Standing at about 6'3" he's as tall as me, similar build. I can tell these last few months have taken a lot out of him. The constantly traveling to other packs in our alliance seems to have taken a lot out of him. I bet his healing abilities aren't working well for him at the moment.

"Dude, another guitar? That's the 4th instrument in the last few weeks you've wrecked." Kyle said this more with concern even though I know replacing all these instruments hasn't been cheap. His father, Dorin, is a tech genius and manages all our finances. His father is third in command, and Kyle will be taking over that position as soon as I become Alpha.

My father shook his head, "Jaxson, as future alpha of this pack you must learn to control this powerful beast you have inside you. I'm going to have Ron add more training to your schedule while you're here, before summer tour starts. Your mind must be stronger than the beast..." he walked around his giant desk and grabbed a tissue box that was sitting on small end table next to his reading chair. He handed it to me while he quickly took the guitar from my hand, tossing it on the floor. Goddess he's dramatic.

My beast began to rumble inside me as I cleaned myself up. That scent was leaving. Damn it.

"Who else was in here Father." It came out more strained than I wanted it to be. He narrowed his eyes at me as he sat back down at his desk ushering me to come forward and sit in the chair next to Kyle. My beast was still stirring.

"Kadance! Get someone in here to clean up the mess Jaxson made." My father bellowed into his phone at his assistant. He hung up the phone before she was able to respond and glared at me.

"I think her name is Krista Alpha." Kyle mumbled. I rolled my eyes at him. Like my father cared at all. My father ignored him and continued to glare at me. He wanted entrance into my mind, I wasn't giving it to him.

"Well if you must know Jaxson, it's just been Ron, Dorin and I working in here most of the day, and Kyle just arrived, looking for you." He continued to study me as I turned to look at Kyle trying to mind link with him. Kyle's mind link skills were some of the worst in the pack, but I was strong enough and close enough he should be able to hear me.

Nope. Damn it Kyle. I'm ordering him to train non stop on this skill, if he's to be my third in command, he must get better at this.

"Jaxson..." Kyle interrupted my thoughts, "is everything really ok?" He brought his hand up to my shoulder, giving it a little shake. The moment he touched me the smell hit my nose again. I could tell it was coming off of him, it was very faint. I brushed him off and got up to leave. I'll just talk to Kyle later. My hand was nearly healed up as I tossed the bloodied tissues in the trash.

"Son! Where are you going? I need to speak with you in private for a moment." My father just wanted to grill me and I wasn't in the mood.

"Later father, let me talk to Kyle first." I wasn't asking for his approval on this one. I needed to grill Kyle as to why he has my mates scent on him. I heard my father growl.

"Jaxson..." he was about to lay into me, when his phone rang. I could tell by the voice on the other end it was Aunt Jemma. He stalked out of the room, grabbing his keys pushing past me on the way out. His mind link pushing past all my barriers, "don't forget who your alpha is son, that disrespectful tone will not go unpunished."

I sighed rolling eyes. Guess I'll just have to deal with his crap later.

Now, time to figure out how to find my mate. My head whipped over to Kyle who was reading over something on his tablet.

"He has her! Let's take him out!" My beast yelled inside my head.

Taking a deep breath I sat next to Kyle again. Figured I'd get straight to the point.

"So why do you have another female scent on you." I was direct, as unemotional as possible. Although I could hear the strain in my voice. I'm sure Kyle could too.

"What are you talking about Jax? I've been with Meghan all afternoon. You know her scent. Don't act like you don't." He went back to his tablet, reading quickly through some legal documents. He looked at me again. "Dude, what is your problem? You're so tense lately..."

I cut him off, "Kyle..." using my alpha tone. Then I took another deep breath. "...Thor is saying you have my Mate." My vision blurred for a moment as my beast was looking for answers and I wasn't getting them to him fast enough.

Kyle looked at me as his eyes went a golden brown with swirls of purple, it means his beast has lent him his power. Fuck. I'm not trying to fight anyone.

"Listen, Jax, I don't know what's up with you or your beast, but I've been with Meghan running errands for my Dad and the band most of the day. I met with a lot of people. Don't you remember? You saw me carrying her in just before lunch. Her and I have been pretty busy all afternoon. Enough to keep her pacified for a while." He smirked and stared me down, challenging my beast. If there's anyone who is a stronger fighter than me it's Kyle, even my younger brother Riley struggles against him.

Thor went dormant for a moment. He knows he won't win this battle.

"Sorry Kyle, this whole mate thing is driving my beast crazy." Rubbing my temples again.

Kyle gets up to grab the paperwork from the printer, and stills for a moment. "You're sure you smelled your mate on me?"

I turn in my seat to look up at him, nodding as he leans on the desk, paperwork in his hands. He's got that evil smile on his face, the face he makes when he's planning something.

"Spit it out Kyle, I'm in no mood for your games right now..." narrowing my eyes on him.

He sets down the paperwork in front of me, I grab the pen and begin to sign on all the dotted lines. It seems like being alpha means I sign a lot of paperwork for a good part of my day. "Well, I only saw two females today, one is taken and she's human. I doubt it's her. But the other, she's a good friend of mine. She's the one who introduced me to Meghan. She's a sub too." The smile he had was still there. I stopped signing and looked up at him, I was thinking. A female who is an experienced sub huh?

"How have I never met this female before?" I asked leaning back in my seat. Genuinely curious about this female, Thor was too. I could feel him leaping in and out of my thoughts, he wants to know more.

"Well to be honest, she had a fiancé up until last year. Asshole wizard who treated her like shit. She finally saw him for who he was. After her true mate love spell wore off. She tends to always see the best in people. Didn't help that his powerful magic kept many of his secrets hidden from her." I saw his eyes go dark. Sometimes I forget how much of a life he has. Our father always had us training, or studying, or training some more. Kyle grew up differently, he had more freedom. He was only sent out on jobs maybe once a month. He has a face no one can deny, just like his father. His good looks and charm are why he and his dad meet with so many people. They are the public faces of our pack to the entire underground rouge network.

"Well and I was on tour for 6 months..." I trailed off thinking about what he was saying. Trying to move on from the subject. If she was my mate then any male who has ever touched her or hurt her will die. Plain and simple.

"Yeah, you guys just got out here, and it's not like you've been going out much. You've spent most of that time training, recording, or performing. Besides she's never going to come out this way unless she had a very good reason." He chuckled when he said this but I didn't understand why.

"Why do you say that?" I asked him truly curious to know more about this female as I continued looking for lines that need my signature.

He looked at me and thought for a moment. "Well, she's from the Luna Hills pack." I chuckled myself. We've come head to head with that pack before. Nothing too serious; they're just more liberal, they tend to collect knowledge, more so than body counts. They have very little concern over wars, unless it involves our science center, or rouge rights. But my father has warned me many times not to underestimate them. They have helped us out on many occasions and their fighters have trained from some of the ancient texts, with elders from many clans and packs. Their quest is more about enlightenment than anything else. My father has always pushed to add more packs and clans to our pack, but the Luna Hills Pack has always been off limits. Never understood why, except that they are powerful in their own right and have as many connections as we do. Their money is well hidden and as far as he's concerned they pose no threat. They are not as large as us but definitely just as influential and powerful. We have a great alliance with them, but I've never quite understood their ways.

"Annnnd..." Kyle interrupted my thoughts. "...Meghan and I are setting up a double date."

I chuckled, "oh really? And I'm just supposed to make room in my schedule for some female from a pack who, kinda sorta hates the pack that I'm about to be the alpha of?"

Kyle shrugged. "Listen, I've never heard her speak negatively about our pack. Ever. Even after Meghan joined. I don't think she holds any grudge against us. Besides, she already agreed to it. So you're coming." He picked up the papers and placed them in an envelope. He heard me growl which only made him roll his eyes. "Damn Jax, lighten up will you. You obviously need a night off and I'm telling you, if you're looking for Luna material, this girl is the one. She's a business owner, runs the school programs and scholarship programs for her pack, she loves animals and books, she's a fuckin' chef in the kitchen..."

I put my hands up stopping him mid sentence. "If she's so great why hasn't some other dom scooped her up yet?"

Kyle just sighed, rubbing a hand down his face, "because, oh inquisitive one, according to her, in this last year of dating she hasn't seemed to connect with anyone. She always says her wolf feels like there's something missing." He smiled and said as he walked out the door "I'll be waiting at your door on Thursday at 3pm, we're meeting the girls at 4:30 for whatever it is they have planned." He turned on his heel and walked out.

I sighed, "alright, I guess it would be nice to get out for a while."

He didn't even wait for my response, when I turned back around Uncle Ron was leaning against the door jam. Arms crossed with his chest puffed out a smirk on his face. "Looks like someone's got a big date with his mate..."

He started laughing while I narrowed my eyes at him. I was about to slip through the Shadows to my room when he stopped me.

"Want to know what I think?" He asked.

"Not really..." I tried to back away from his grip but he wasn't letting go.

"It's because you're so Powerful and a future alpha, that your beast probably sensed your mate somewhere in this city and hasn't been able to be still since. Nothing is going to calm him now that he knows his other half is near. He wants to feel whole again." He said it like he had truly lived it. I know he did. I've seen him and my aunt Jemma.

I heard my dad driving back up the hill. Time to leave. My beast needed to get out and run. If I didn't leave now I wouldn't get out of here tonight.

"Well, Uncle Ron, thank you for that info. Perhaps this woman is my mate, perhaps not. Either way, my Father is on his way back which means it's time for me to go." I said with a smirk.

He shook his head, "Jaxson, you know he's going to deal with you one way or another..."

His voice was barely a whisper as I slide into the shadows, roaming through the house, down through our kitchen, giving myself enough time to smack Riley on the back of the head, as I continued out the back door.

"Asshole!" I heard Riley roar as I chuckled to myself.

My beast thundered inside me as I shifted, shredding all my clothes with the shift and ran.
