Chapter One

Sometimes people are afraid of falling in love, because it sometimes comes in a way we never expected....

.............

........

......

"Do you Mew Suppasit take Gulf Kanawut as your lawfully wedded husband?"

The church was silent. It didn't have many people. But all of their eyes were set upon him. The man currently everyone was looking at was looking down. His lips were pursed. His eyes were filled with unshed tears as they connected with another pair of eyes. Black, unemotional, cold, ruthless eyes. This was not what he imagined. He was only 18. His life was all set before him. But he knew with the next words, it all will be over. It all will be at the mercy of a man who seems like doesn't even know the meaning of that word.

"Come on darling." The menacing tone sounded like a threat to him. "Everyone's waiting."

He looked up at him with every drop of hatred he felt and said the words that doomed his future from that moment.

"I do."

.......................... ..................... ..............

"I didn't kill her. She wasn't even home that day. I found no one after reaching home."

The man kept blabbering but Gulf's eyes were set upon the other man's fingers that seems to be fidgeting every now and then. Interesting!

His pupils were dilated. His eyes seems to look elsewhere when talking. He was fidgeting nonstop. It was very obvious that he was lying. But it wasn't Gulf Kanawut's concern though.

His mind was outside the waiting area. The time going slowly. Very slowly as he keeps remembering the place he had to visit after this.

"Mr. Kanawut. Please save me from this."

There were five stages of grief but three stages of sin in Gulf's book. Ignorance, feigning innocence and pleading. To his surprise, the begging already started. "Do you know that there are two types of criminals." He sipped his now cold coffee. "One who is very good at lying. And you've to be if you want to get away with crimes."

He leaned forward to look at the other's scared eyes. Was this man afraid of Him? Good. Being afraid is good.

"Two..who is bad at lying. And they are the ones who always get trapped. Am I clear Mr. Beckerly."

He almost laughed at the man. This idiot wanted to flee it seems like. But it's not an option anymore. After all it's a jail for hell's sake.

"Here is what we are gonna do." He sipped again then threw away the coffee in disgust. Time to hire a new secretary. "You want me as your lawyer. You'll get me as your lawyer. But for that I want the whole truth.."

"I...I will pay you double, triple.."

A smirk played at his lips as he looked at the desperate man before pleading before him. His begging almost not reaching his ear. But that one word did.

Money! Does people really think everything can be done with money. To say the truth. It can be but not always. "It was nice meeting you Mr. Bekerley." He finally stood up after looking at his watch, then took his coat from the chair. This was a lost cause anyway.

"Mr. Kanawut..."

His attention was on his watch now that was warning him again and again that he was late. And there were still flowers to buy. Today has been a waste of time.

"I...."

Maybe the store will still be open. He completely ignored the man, walking towards the door and almost turning on the doorknob when that man finally said the words he wanted to hear from the start.

"I will say the truth."

A smirk appear on his lips as turned back towards him, kept his coat on the chair, ignored his buzzing phone and concentrated on the man before him "Then..where shall we began."

Seems like he needs to tell that dumb assistant of his to buy the flowers for him this time.

............. ............. ......................

His eyes were fixed on the camellia flowers lying beside him on the car seat. Their refreshing looks were irritating him for some reason. It's not like she will even notice how they look. What's the use of looking so beautiful if it's going to end up in a dumpster anyway!

"Are you seriously taking that case?" Bright's question made him look up at his friend, the only one who he doesn't consider as a nutcase. At least not like himself.

"If I wasn't then I won't be there at that place." He slowly slid down the car's window glass trying to feel the wind but the only thing he could feel was the dampness of New York and smell the over polluted air. The car stopped at a red light as he lit up his first cigerete of that day.

"I am amazed at the way you take this death sticks in your lungs. You are gonna die at this rate, Kanawut. " Bright said while typing on the phone about who knows what. That's why he couldn't see the mocking look taking over Gulf's eyes. It doesn't need to be said but if he even die at this time, he can count on one hand about how many people will be affected.

His eyes absentmindedly went on the roadside. There was a child sitting on his father's neck going towards the park. An ice-cream on her hand. A dazzling smile in her lips. An innocence liting up her eyes. Such a pity. Will this smile still be the same when she grow up?

"Gulf, that man is a criminal." His friend started again just as the car started too making eyes eyes turning away from the father daughter duo.

"Who isn't. We all are sinners. The difference is that some people are very good at hiding it." He close the window glass tapping on the glass blocking his driver from them. Jonathan looked back at him in question.

"The usual Place, Sir?" His driver was good at guessing. But then again. It was Monday. And he only had one place to go. The same place he came to loathe every time he visits. But that doesn't mean it will stop him from going there.

"Drop Mr. Vachirawit first infront of the office, Jonathan." He nodded at Gulf concentrating on the road again.

"Gulf, He killed that woman." His eyes looked at Bright with a smark on his face. Such a naive friend he got. Really.

"I know."

"Then."

"Sometimes it is the only option. He did what he thought was necessary. I will do what I think is right."

The car stopped in front of his office. "Just gather what we need for the next hearing and study the recording I took. Then we'll talk again."

Bright's eyes looked at his friend with frustration then went out of the car but not before throwing him a dirty look. "It has been 16 years and It feels like I still don't know you."

"Such a pity. And I thought we are close friends." Gulf can hear him groan in frustration when walking away.

He wanted to know me. But we don't always get what we want, do we?.

"Should I start Sir?"

He looked at Jonathan leaning back in his car's seat finally closing his eyes. "It is time."

He seems to understand what that strange man, he knew from a long time meant as the car started moving again. This time towards a place that man loathe very much.

............... ................ ..............

"She has been like this since today's morning, Mr. Kanawut. We tried to talk or engage her in activities but she doesn't seem to concentrate on anything at all."

Gulf was listening to the doctor but his eyes were still on the woman he call his mother. Just as he thought, the camellia flowers were already on the floor. Beautiful things always ended up being in ruin.

He walked towards her motioning for the doctor to go away. Her eyes were fixed on the doll in her hand. Sometimes He thought maybe being insane was really good. You can forgot everything and create your own reality however you want it to. Such a great privilege.

"Mom.."He knelt down infront of her trying to see if she will even glance a little at him. But all her concentration was on the doll. He slowly brushed her hair away from her eyes. "The doll is pretty. Can I touch it?"

"No.." The love in her eyes made him envious toward that plastic doll.

"Just a little."

She looked fearfully at him hiding her doll away.

"Is it that much precious Mom? that even your own son can't compete with it?" Her scared look gave all the answers he needed as he stood up fixing her hair again. How he wish she will hug him just like that. With that much care, that much affection, that much love and hide him away just like that doll from every darkness He saw and felt everyday.

The ringing of his mobile made him look away from her. The number flashing on the screen were very familiar. It's the only number he knew by heart.

"Mild.." He knew what his friend was gonna say. His whole body was anticipating it. The beating of his heart was agreeing with him completely.

"I got the address, Gulf. I found it."

"Where." His voice sounded composed but inside it was anything but.

"Here. In Thailand."

A cruel smark slowly appear on his face as he hang up the phone looking at his mother one last time. "It's time to go back home, Mom." He slid a untucked hair strand behind her ear. "I promise I will be back." She still paid him no attention . With a sigh he bent down picking up all the flowers from the floor before throwing them in the dustbin. Cause this is where beautiful things belong. In total and utter ruin.

............... .............. ...................

I don't believe it. You did it again"

A man with brown warm eyes looked up at the person he call his best friend with bright smile taking over his whole face. His bestie aka cousin brother seems to can't believe that he lost again." Should we play again then, Kaw kaw."

The said man glared at the smiling kid after hearing that nick name while took out the money and slamming it on the tabletop. "Stop calling me that."

"But I like calling you that, my Kaw kaw"

"Damn it Mew."

The laughing sound vibrated around the whole room effecting others too as the look at the smiling kid who was sitting on the counter. "Sometimes I do think how my cousin is such a dumb person." He gulped down the beer in his glass in one go before laught at his friend. "I mean I always win at racing games. It must've been the hundred time you lost to me and still didn't learned your lesson."

"Mew Stop mocking him." Jane, his other friend put another beer bottle in front of him. "And start drinking. It's a night to let loose after all."

"As you wish, Miss teddy." He gulped down the drink in one go again.

She smiled approvingly. From then on he didn't even knew how many drinks he had. Suddenly the crowd screaming at the bar held his attention.

"Ten.."

The scream of the crowd almost made him deaf as his two friend also went towards the screaming crowd leaving him alone in the counter. Those fucker seems to be handling their alcohol alright. Damn it. He was already swaying as I stood up trying to make his way towards them.

"Nine..."

He tried to see more clearly as he kept going ahead. The alcohol was making everything blurry.

"Eight...."

He is never drinking again.

"Seven..."

His hand was looking for something to hold into very badly as his vision swayed in front of him.

"Six....."

Cool air hit his face as his feet finally stopped. He closed his eyes trying to calm down the throbbing in his head.

"Five..."

A smile unknowingly crept into his face. There's a profit in being born at the eve of new year after all.

"Four, three..."

He rest his head on the wall trying to calm down his over beating heart. The fact that he was finally turning 18 seems to caught up with him finally. But his eyes became moist for some reason. Does turning 18 even mean something? Will it stop anything that was happening with him? Will it change anything at all?

"Two..."

"Happy Birthday To me...." He whispered to himself with closed eyes. Mind wavering between making a wish or not making one. His wishes never come true in the first place. He wished to not be alone just at this moment today. And there he was, alone. So alone. With none to lean on. At the end of the day, he is always the one with no one beside him.

"One.....happy New Year..." A tear rolled down his eyes there was still close. When that voice came to his ear. Like a warning, as if everything were about to change.

"It's bad luck to spend new year alone."

Hot air washed over his face. A mixture of mint and whiskey filling up his nostrils. He inhaled again. Feeling something strange taking over his body as he tried to open his eyes to see the owner of that voice but the alcohol was making him sway again. He can almost feel himself falling down untill two hands wrapped around him. "Let's make it more memorable, Shall we?"

That was the word he remembered. It was the last thing he heard before everything went black. It was only in that moment that he figured out what that strange feeling was. It was an alien feeling to him. It was.... comfort. And it was frightening. Very very frightening. Yet he welcomed it and went into oblivion with nothing scaring him for the first time in his life.

Re Warning again.....hehe

Here is the first chapter. Couldn't stop myself from writing this one. But updates will be slow until "When the devil falls in love" ends. Then I will start updating this one more frequently.

But let me give you some warnings before you invest your mind in this story.

1. It will be GulfMew all the way.

2. There is age gap. Like really big age gap. More than 10 years.

3. It won't be rainbow and sunshine. It will be just like how the title is. Very dark. It will take your mind to a very dark place.

4. This story will have mature content and various touchy, traumatic events.

5. It is a love story (at least I think so) but it will not be like normal love stories. You need to be open minded to read this one.

So, if you guys are ok with those things mentioned above, then welcome aboard.

P.S: Comment and vote too guys. I want to know all of your opinions. Bad or good. It will means a lot. I really do appreciate every comment I get. Cause it helps me to be better in my writing.

So, till the next chapter...sayonara...
