016.

LANA ROMANOFF laid on her bed, wide awake. She had just awoken from a nightmare but they weren't the usual ones. Usually, she dreamt of her past, her time at the Red Room, but this time was different. She dreamt of herself, battered and bloody. Her team, bruised and some dead, wide and cold eyes stared back at her. A large cliff loomed over her, and a purple sun rose over it, illuminating her surroundings and engulfing her in a warm light.

And then she woke.

Lana sighed, turning over. She caught sight of Steve and smiled lightly. Light snores escaped his plump lips and his blond hair was tousled from sleep. He had grown a beard and she was loving it. Her fingers gently danced over his arm, which was draped across her waist protectively.

Lana shifted his arm slightly and rose from underneath it. She escaped the bed and exited their room. After Bulgaria, they moved somewhere warmer, the Caribbean. Their rental home sat on a private beach. Lana loved it, she was able to go whenever she wanted without the worry of someone seeing her.

She opened the back door and stepped out, going straight toward the sea. She sat in the sand and as the tide rolled in, her feet were soaked. Lana frowned as she tried to decipher her strange dream.

She didn't know how long she was out there before footsteps sounded behind her. She glanced back and smiled at Steve as he approached.

"What are you doing out here?"

"Just taking in the scenery," Lana responded. He sat beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. She leaned into him as the sun started to come over the horizon.

Steve glanced at her, "Penny for your thoughts?"

"It's nothing. Just me being paranoid," Lana chuckled. He kissed her head and they fell into silence.

Steve broke it with a question, "Have you ever thought about getting married?"

Lana glanced at him, "To you? Yeah. Why?"

"Wait, you have?" Lana nodded, "Good. Cause, I'd like to marry you."

She looked at him, only to find him already staring at her. She smiled lightly, resting her head on his shoulder, "Was that your way of proposing?" Lana questioned.

"Maybe," Steve replied, though Lana knew the correct answer. She glanced at him and as he looked down at her, she kissed his lips passionately. Steve had been a large part of comfort in her life. He made her feel as though there was some redemption for her actions in the past. He didn't criticize her for them either. And their relationship was something she cherished greatly.

"I'll marry you, Steve, no need to be nervous," she teased as she parted from him. A large smile broke out on his face.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Their sweet moment was broken by the shrill of a phone in the house. Lana glanced at it and groaned. The two got up and entered the house, searching up and down for the annoying ringing. It was nowhere to be found. Steve was upstairs when he shouted.

"Found it!" He came down, holding up a burner phone that had stopped ringing. It was similar to the one he had given her when they were separated.

"Who is it?" Lana asked, glancing over his shoulder as he flipped it open.

"It's Tony," Steve spoke in shock.

"Tony? What does he want?"

Steve checked the voicemail and pointed at the Tv, "Turn on the news."

Lana picked up the remote and switched it on. The screen was immediately flooded with pictures of an alien ship descending onto New York, Tony and Bruce with Spiderman and another man trying to fight off two aliens.

Lana gagged. The thought of a repetition of 2012 surfaced in her mind. She swiftly exited the room and into the bathroom, where she vomited into the toilet. She felt Steve come up behind her, holding her hair away. When she was done, she collapsed onto the ground.

"Well shit," she breathed. She looked at Steve, "I'll call Nat. You get Sam. After that, we'll find Wanda and Vision." The other couple had split off from the group and gone about doing their own thing. Which was fine seeing as they all did. But what wasn't fine was not contacting each other. The rest had fortnightly debriefings on where they were in the world, and the last place that Wanda and Vision had been was Scotland.

After brushing her teeth, Lana rushed around the house, trying to gather her things. Natasha was already on her way, as she had apparently already seen the commotion going on. She pulled on her suit and exited the bathroom and descended the stairs.

Steve was standing in the living room, talking on the phone. When he hung up, he turned.

"What's the matter?" he questioned as he saw the look on her face.

"This is it. I can feel it. Something bad is going to happen and we're not going to be able to stop it," Lana wrapped her arms around herself as the sick feeling arose in her stomach once more.

Steve immediately stepped forward, and gripped her shoulder, "Nothing's going to happen. I promise."

As much as she wanted to believe that, something was nagging her not to. However, she pushed that thought to the back of her mind as she nodded, "You're right."

The distant sound of propellers echoed around the house and they exited, getting ready to run into a fight.
