012.
LANA breathed heavily as she washed her face in the sink. She had changed out of the leotard and into the black suits the Widows always wear. The door to the bathroom opened and Melina walked in. The older woman stared at her silently before speaking up, "Madame B told Dreykov what you did. He wants to see you."
"Have you come to escort me, Melina? Don't bother I think I can find my way just fine," Lana drawled in a mocking tone.
Melina rolled her eyes, "Enough with all this bullshit. Come on."
Lana sighed and followed after Melina. They walked to Dreykov's office and Melina tapped lightly. When they were instructed to come in they entered. Dreykov was sitting lounging in his desk chair, his feet propped on the table. She noticed his soldier, the one from Budapest, standing to the side.
"Leave us Melina, but don't go far, stay outside," Dreykov ordered. Melina nodded and exited, "Come Phoenix." Lana stepped forward and stopped at the front of his desk.
He took something out and placed it in front of her, motioning for her to sit, "For you. You are senior Widow now. Madame B tells me of what you did and I promote you."
Lana looked down at the batons - which were similar to Melina's- and the black handgun. Basic training Widows weren't allowed to carry weapons, at least loaded ones, around the Red Room, only Senior Widows were. She stared at it and Dreykov chuckled, "You have a burning question. Ask?"
"What is this?"
"You are senior Widow," Dreykov said.
"Why?"
"Because you are the same as when you left. A killer. And now, you may just be better. So promotion is in order," Dreykov said. He then called out, "Melina."
Melina came in a moment later, the door buzzing as it opened. The woman walked toward them, "So uh, how was the family reunion."
"Oh it was awful. They were clingy and too emotional and needy," Melina groaned.
"Bitch," Lana muttered.
"Just like old times, huh?" Dreykov chuckled. Melina hummed, "Yelena Belova. What's the deal with her? They were the only one affected, right?" Dreykov pointed at Lana.
"As far as I know yes," Melina responded.
"These gasses and antidotes, it's a pain in my ass. It's a problem. You two need to sort it," Dreykov said.
"Hmm. I have nine pigs that require my attending to in my absence," Melina said.
"Don't give a shit about your pigs," Dreykov spoke over her. He made her sit beside Lana. He gripped her head, "Cut her brain out... hmm? Identify the weakness."
Dreykov let her go and leaned on the armrests, trapping the brunette woman in the chair, "What about the other Romanoff?" she asked.
"She's a traitor. She turned her back on her people. On her blood. She had nothing. I gave her home. I gave her love. Put that thing in her you do. You know, uh, chemicals. Turn her into one of your pigs. Can you imagine what I could do with two Avengers under my control?"
"Wouldn't you like to speak to her first?" Melina asked.
"When you look into the eyes of a child you have raised, no mask in the world can hide that," Dreykov reached for her face and Melina grabbed his hand. She let it go and he tapped her temple.
The cyber mask was deactivated and he removed it and the wig, "Welcome home." Natasha stood and the soldier pointed a gun at her. "Now, now," Dreykov stopped, "Don't go breaking my new toy." The soldier stood back, "Is this your plan? Or is it yours?" He looked at Lana who shrugged.
"It was mine. Her plan is to kill you," Lana said.
"I'm alive," Dreykov pointed out, "So what do we do now?"
"What was our mother's name? You erased it from our memory," Natasha asked.
"Where we buried her, there was a tree... Um... A pink blossom. Beautiful. And there was a tombstone with her name engraved on it. What was her name? Ah," he chuckled, "Unknown."
Lana's head tilted at the obvious try to block her from his mind. She didn't know why but she assumed he was lying. She kept quiet so she would question him about it later.
"You don't feel anything? You feel anything when I killed your daughter?" Natasha asked.
"Is this your haunted past? Really?" Dreykov started to laugh, "Thank you Natasha." Dreykov stood and walked toward the soldier, "You gave me my greatest weapon. Say hello."
The mask was removed and Lana saw the girl beneath it. Aside from the permanent scars on her face, her eyes seemed familiar to her.
"When your bomb exploded, it nearly killed my Antonia. I had to put a chip in the back of her neck," Dreykov stated angrily, "In the back of her neck. Look at her. You find it difficult to look at her? I do. She... She watches everything and she can do it. She is a perfect mimic. And she fights just like all of your friends," Dreykov said.
"Can she hear me?" Natasha asked.
"What?" Dreykov questioned, "You want to make her feel better?" Natasha's jaw ticked, "You want to tell her you're sorry? Well you should have thought of that before you blew her face off. But enough of all this bullshit. Go to work. I have rats in the basement. Go."
Antonia put on her mask and exited the office, leaving the two with Dreykov.
