Preface
It was in the evening and the sun was setting when suddenly there was a faint pop and a figure appeared out of the blue into the ill-lit alley.
The figure was hooded and was at an average height. In the faint light of the setting sun you could see that beneath the hood was a woman, who had a rather fat belly, and had long hair that was lank and dull. She had a plain, pale and a heavy face.
The woman walked down the alley and into a busy street in London. A sign at the corner of the street read Vauxhall road. The woman kept on walking until she reached a square building surrounded by high railings. It was rundown, but clean. A board above it read Wool's orphanage.
The woman walked to the rusty front gate. It was open so she walked forward until she reached a sleek black door that had a carving of a sheep on it. She knocked; her hands shaking and waited.
A girl, who looked almost 20, answered the door. "Yes?" asked the girl.
"I was hoping you could help me" said the hooded woman "My name is Merope Riddle."
The girl looked at her and then taking in her condition invited her in. It was clear that the woman was with child.
The woman named Merope went inside and the girl locked the door and turned to face her.
"I'm Cole and I own this orphanage," said the girl.
Merope suddenly started feeling very oozy and she couldn't see clearly.
Cole called everyone for help and a few woman took Merope into a room and laid her on the bed. She then called for a doctor and half an hour later Merope was on the bed barely able to breathe and in her arms was a baby boy.
Merope was close to dying but before she did, she whispered to Cole, who was the only person in the room, to name the baby boy Tom Marvolo Riddle.
Tom Riddle after his father and Marvolo after his grandfather. Then suddenly she couldn't breathe and then in a moment, she was dead. Her body lay lifeless, and the baby in her arms began crying.
