Chapter 26: Kaienan - The Necklace

There is a hum in the air as magic flickers around me and I look up, curious. Now that it has my attention, the magic reveals its message at last. Siera's voice ripples through the air.

"The forging is complete. Should I head over to your house?"

With a chuckle, I send a reply back. Why did Siera send. Message before she came over. She doesn't need to. There is another ripple as she transports herself to me. She appears on the grass outside and I stand from my table to approach her. She smiles at me, crossing the grass towards the entrance of my home.

My voice is teasing. "Back so soon, Siera?"

She grins. "Of course. I work quickly, especially when my magic assists me." She pauses. "Would you like to see it?"

A raise an eyebrow at her. "Like you need to ask."

Siera laughs and pulls something gray out of her pocket. For a moment, fear flits through me, but then I realize the gray is from a velvet pouch. She reaches her hand inside it and withdraws something. When it catches the light, the piece blazes like fire and sends fractals of light dancing through the open air. I have to blink a couple times as it reflects light into my eyes. The piece is a necklace. Gold and copper mesh with crystals and clear stone woven through it. At the bottom is a fiery stone, the exact same color as Calli'a eyes.

I gasp. "Siera, you've outdone yourself this time!"

She flushes. "Thank you."

I touch one of the clear stones with the pad of my finger. "What are these?"

"Those are moonstones. The one at the bottom is a sunstone."

I nod. "What magic is in it?"

Siera frowns. "I'm not entirely sure. I can't detect all the spells. t least not their exact purpose. I know their good spells, but I don't know what they do, exactly."

I nod. That's not entirely unexpected when her magic takes charge when working on a piece. "What spells do you know then?"

She smiles. "There's the protection spell, one for the clasp, one to send messages I think, and one so that the necklace binds to her skin so that it can't be removed except by her."

I have at her for a moment. "And how many spells are in there?"

Siera shrugs. "I don't know. A dozen, perhaps?"

She flicks her fingers and a blank paper appears. As I watch, words bloom across its surface. She tucks the paper into the bag and slides the necklace back inside. Then she hands it out to me.

"Here you are."

I take it gratefully and incline my head. "Thank you, Siera."

She smiles and her form fades as her magic takes her back to her workshop. I'm tempted to see what the paper says, but I won't look at it. That message is for Calli, not me. I send my magic shooting out towards her to let her know I'm on my way.

What do you think? I know this is short, but I couldn't make it any longer. The book writes itself, I'm just the conduit. What do you think Siera's message says? Tell me your thoughts!

Happy reading and I'll see you next chapter!
