Chapter 25: Siera - Forging
I hum thoughtfully to myself as I pull my silver hair back into a tight braid. With a few pins deftly placed throughout, I coil the braid around itself into a tight bun. It wouldn't be very good if my hair got caught in my work. Task complete, I tap one of the remaining pins against the back of my left hand. What would be the best thing I could make to protect Kaienan's soul-bonded? I think through everything I know about her. She's a mortal, and her gift is light. I pause. Is that really all I know about her? That information won't help me much. I need to rely on my magic to do this.
Slowly, I let the rainbow hues of my gift swirl through me, increasing with strength in every moment. It pushes me towards the forge and my worktable, but I need supplies first. I cross the studio space to my shelf of supplies and close my eyes. I don't need to see for my magic to choose what to use. My fingers snap out and pluck up several objects from the shelf. Wires of some kind, smooth stone, tiny crystalline shards. At last, my body stills. My magic has collected what it needs and is ready to begin.
I carefully take the bundle of supplies over to my work table and lay them out. Delicate wires of copper and gold, moonstone, shards of clear crystal, and one other thing. There is one sunstone sitting there, sparkling in the light. It is larger than the assembled moonstones, but not by much. It is the size of her thumb, while the moonstones are two thirds of that size. One end of it tapers into a soft point to form a teardrop while the moonstones are perfectly round.
My magic swirls inside of me, anxious to get out and create. I let a tendril escape to probe the objects, let that tendril think of what to create. Just before it can take hold of the objects or let the rest of my magic force its way out, I let go. Color and light explodes out of me in a rainbow, my magic swirling around the room before it converges and condenses around my worktable. One end of it anchors itself to me and the other hovers over the workbench, examining the objects laid out upon it.
With another flare of color, my magic sucks itself back inside of me, ready to begin. Light flares up around my eyes, blinding me. But it isn't painful, that's what my magic always does when it is in charge of creating something. My hands move forward, directed by the magic. I feel the coolness of stone upon my fingertips before my senses fade away completely and my magic begins its work.
When my sight clears again and my magic releases its hold on me, the objects have all been assemble into one whole piece. It is a necklace of copper and gold strands all tumbling together to make a net that gleams in the light. Where the necklace would go around the neck, the wire strands condense into a woven band. There isn't a clasp, it's one directed by magic. Only Kaienan's soul-bonded can put on or remove this necklace.
Interspersed throughout the mesh of metallic strands are the chunks of moonstone and crystalline shards. They almost appear to be placed randomly, but they are all in the perfect positions to catch light. At the very bottom of the mesh is the sunstone teardrop, cleaving the mesh in two. The rounded portion of it is centered at the bottom of the mesh, where it would skim the girl's sternum. The point of it rises back up through the mesh, separating it in two. Despite the similar colors between the stone and the mesh, the sunstone blazes with color as if it's lit with fire. I smile at the piece and touch it gently with my finger, probing for the enchantments that have been placed. There are several, but all of them are good.
Quickly, I dash over to my supply shelves and grab a velvet bag of stormy gray. I carefully slide the necklace into it and send a quick message to Kai. My magic flickers at it and darts away, crossing the world to find him wherever he may be. I'll wait for him to respond before I take it to him, it wouldn't do to be at his home before he is himself. He may not have minded it too much earlier, but he was startled.

No one answered my question last chapter, but I chose to do this one in Siera's perspective anyways. What do you think? Especially of the necklace. Do you like the imagery? What enchantments do you think were placed on it? Tell me your thoughts!
Happy reading and I'll see you next chapter!
