Chapter Twelve: Colliding Stories

Trigger warning: anxiety attacks.

Patton's P.O.V.
I woke up, noticing almost immediately that Logan had left. Us two and Roman built a fort the night before, which Logan and I returned to after Roman decided to sleep with Virgil. Slowly, I stretched, yawned, and got up to shower. After my shower I went to the kitchen to get some coffee.

"Salutations, dearest." said a voice from the dining room. I looked in the direction of the voice, seeing Logan sitting in his chair, a book and his coffee mug in front of him.

"Morning, Logey Bear." I said to him with a smile. I went to get myself coffee, as I was feeling in the mood for it that day. Thomas once imagined for us a coffee maker that could produce any coffee we wanted, special requests and toppings included, and from then on it was what we used in the Mind.

"Did you sleep well?" I asked Logan.

"I did indeed." he replied, pulling his book closer to him. I walked over and sat down at the table, and since my seat was right next to his, I began to read the book. There were plenty of words that I hadn't heard since Thomas went to high school, and some that I'd never ever heard of at all. I didn't bother to ask Logan what it really was, as he seemed to be deep in the story.

Despite the fact that I had no idea what was going on in the book, I continued reading next to Logan as we both sipped our coffee. At some point my attention moved from the book to Logan. He looked so peaceful and yet so excited when he was reading, making me smile and stare.

"Good morning!" yelled an excited voice from my right, making me jump and Logan almost spit out his coffee. I turned around and saw a fully grown Roman walking down the stairs. His hair was damp looking, yet somehow still perfectly positioned. I smiled with relief at the sight of seeing Roman back in his normal state.

"Salutations." Logan said absently, having already turned back to his book.

"Hey kiddo!" I said to Roman. "You seem happy today!" Roman blushed fiercely.

"It's just, uh, I'm glad to be back to normal. So, so very glad to be back to normal." He smiled awkwardly and went to the kitchen.

"Hey kiddo, don't get anything for breakfast yet, I'm gonna start cooking in just a minute!" I told him. Logan finally closed his book, picking up his empty mug and taking it to the sink.

"Where's Virgil at?" he asked Roman.

"Virgil?" Roman said.

"Yes, Virgil. Where is he? Asleep? Showering?"

"Oh, yes, he's showering." Roman smiled awkwardly once more. Logan scrunched up his face in confusion, definitely wondering why Roman was acting so weird. Before either of us had a chance to ask why he was acting the way he was, we heard someone walking down the stairs.

"Salutations, Virgil." Logan greeted once more. I giggled quietly, remembering once more how Logan never liked saying 'good morning' and always preferred 'salutations.' Just like the past couple days, Virgil said nothing and waved. He walked strait to the coffee machine to get his usual, then turned back to Roman and grinned. An awkward silence fell over us as I went to the kitchen to begin cooking breakfast.

Logan's P.O.V.
I couldn't help but feel as though something was 'off' that day, mostly because of the strange way Roman was acting. While Patton cooked I stayed in the kitchen to help, the other two sitting down at the dining room table. A couple times a glanced over at them, seeing Roman whisper and Virgil nod. I tried to focus more on Patton and cooking, yet I still couldn't help but wonder what the two were talking about.

When Patton and I had finished with the scrambled eggs and toast and had sat them out at the table, we all began eating in silence. It wasn't until nearly all of us had finished eating that anyone spoke.

"How did everyone sleep last night?" Patton asked us. I said nothing, having already answered this question, while Roman and Virgil gave thumbs up, one incapable of speaking and the other having food in his mouth. We finished breakfast, but just as Patton stood to take his plate to the sink, Roman stopped him and told us all to stay seated.

"We have something to tell you guys." Roman said, looking at Virgil. Virgil took a deep breath, either trying to calm or prepare himself.

"The curse is broken." he said. Patton gasped, clapping with joy, and I smiled.

"We broke the curse." Roman stated, grabbing Virgil's hand in his own, both blushing fiercely. Patton gasped again, this time squealing with excitement. In his excitement, he embraced me tightly and kissed me on the forehead before sitting back down.

"Finally!" Virgil exclaimed as Patton abruptly stepped away. "We've been waiting forever for you two to finally act like you love each other." Roman laughed quietly as Patton and I blushed.

"Surely you haven't been waiting forever." I retorted defensively.

"Oh of course not," Virgil said with a highly sarcastic tone. "We can't possibly have been waiting forever."

"Yeah," Roman added. "Only just since we were all created." The two laughed quietly at their 'burn' as I glared at them.

"But," Virgil said, silencing laughter and cutting off glares. "All humor and lovey-doves aside, something happened when the curse broke." He began taking in deep breaths again, trying to calm himself once more. His grip noticeably tightened on Roman's hand.

"We heard a voice," Roman continued, rubbing his thumb back and forth against the back of Virgil's hand in a manner that I assumed was soothing to the latter.

"What kind of voice?" Patton asked with a fearful tone.

"It was..well.." Roman trailed off, seemingly trying to find a way to describe the voice. "It was almost like an echo. Yeah, like a loud and clear echo." Patton grabbed my hand and squeezed it, both of us suddenly finding an uncanny connection between that voice and the voice he heard yesterday.

"What did the voice say?" I asked. Roman then recited to us what he and Virgil heard. When he was done, all of us were silent.

"We need to get Thomas." Patton said.

~time skip~

We brought Thomas to the Mind with us, all of us wondering what Patton would say. When we were all situated at the table, he sighed and began. He said everything he could. He spoke of the voice he had been hearing, telling him lies and trying to convince him of horrible things. He explained my encounter with the dark figure, my decreasing logical skills, and most importantly, our shared encounter with the figure in my bathroom.

Patton's words figuratively shattered my heart. At the end his claims, he began crying, the rest of his words inaudible. Not for the first time, I saw the toll that these events were taking on Patton.

Thomas's P.O.V.
Eventually, Patton stopped trying to talk through his tears. He grabbed Logan around the waist, holding him tight like a teddy bear. After Patton's tears slowed and his crying quieted, Virgil, though clearly on the verge of an anxiety attack, spoke. He told us all about a reading with a seer named Rossane. He told us about Roman's dream as well. No one knew what to say. Virgil began crying. He was completely silent, but tears still poured down his cheeks. Patton burst into tears once more, sobbing miserably.

With a sudden burst, I could feel everything all of them were feeling again. The fear, the hopelessness, the confusion, the anxiety, the love, the hope, the relief, everything.

I walked over to Patton, kneeled down beside him, and hugged him. Before I knew it, Roman and Virgil were in on the hug too. It was kinda strange, the five of us together all holding each other close. Though it was a moment of sadness and terror, it was also filled with love. For the first time in weeks, months even, Roman and Virgil were not fighting. They had gone from sworn enemies to boyfriends. Well, actually, they still acted mostly like enemies, just with boyfriend added on to it. Patton and Logan, for the first time ever, they showed their love to us.

True, Patton and Virgil were crying with fear, Logan and Roman trying to comfort them despite their own fears. But despite the heartache, we were all together, and we weren't fighting, and we didn't hate each other. We were all united. Yes, united under fear, but united.

"I'm so sorry," Patton said quietly after he stopped crying, all five of us still hugging. "I should have told all of you what was going on sooner."

"N-no," Virgil added. "I s-should've told y-you guys about m-my reading. I s-should've told y-you, Roman, at l-least."

"Virgil, Patton," said Logan. "You did nothing wrong."

"Nothing." Roman added on. "We're all scared. We don't know what's happening to us now, and we don't know what will happen to us in the coming days."

"Look," I said finally. "What matters now is that we all stick together in this. From now on, if something happens, tell everyone. Now, I hope you guys know that once all of this is set and done, I am going to need you for a Sanders Sides video." They all laughed a bit.

"I've got go, I need to buy some groceries and later tonight Joan and Talyn are coming over to discuss our Vine ideas and have dinner." I wriggled my way out of the group hug, followed by everyone else.

"Bye Thomas." Virgil said with a short nod.

"Farewell." said Logan

"Bye bye kiddo." Patton waved.

"Goodbye, my friend." saluted Roman. With that, I sank out of my Mind, beginning my breathing techniques in an attempt to calm the many emotions and bought a running through my head.

Patton's P.O.V.
"So," Roman said. "Should we try to put any pieces together, discuss this any more?"

"No." Virgil said shortly. "I need to be alone for some time." Then he walked away to his room.

"I don't think I'm up for it either." I said. "And hey, Roman," He was already chasing after Virgil, but he stopped and looked at me. "Leave him be for a few hours. He does this when things get intense. He needs time all by himself." Roman nodded, then went upstairs.

"Are you alright, dearest?" Logan asked me, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me.

"I've been better." I said. "It's just, there's so much going on, there's so much that could happen, I'm just so scared."

"I know, dearest, I know. I am too, we all are. But we will all get through this together. I promise you, Patton. I love you."

"I love you too, Logey Bear."

A.N.
Ok, we're gonna talk about Deceit and Virgil for a moment. When Deceit appeared, he did not look at the camera, he did not look at Thomas, he appeared staring off to his left directly at Virgil. The camera cut to Virgil, who was staring right back at him. Also, Virgil started showing signs that he knew something was off with 'Patton' as far back as when they were all still doing the scene with the little kid's hamster and 'Patton' just continued on normally despite the fact that the real Patton would probably have acted the same way Thomas did in that situation.

Anyway, the theory I believe is that Virgil thought of Deceit as a sort of 'friend' before his redemption arc and was one of what Roman refers to as the 'dark sides.' Obviously Deceit will be back again—as he said he wouldn't and he speaks fluent in lies—but I really don't think he will ever be given the acceptance that Virgil has been given. I do think there's a massive backstory to Virgil and Deceit, though. But, like I said, it's just a theory (a film theory! [anyone else watch Film Theory/Game Theory/GTLive?]) and I have theories for everything so just ignore that if you wish.

Alright, so enough with me and my theories, let's move on to Valentines Day. I have my own opinions on Valentines Day, and I will summarize them with the following quote from Chapter Fifteen: Black Heart (Part One) of Fanciful Angst by Juliann__Angel : "Valentines Day is a moronic, capitalist retail holiday, monopolized by greeting card companies and jewelers." Yes, as you could probably tell, that is a quote told from the point of view of Virgil.

I've actually written a short song about Valentines Day that is called Chocolate Day, and I've painted my nails glittery black (I hate painting my nails but I wanted to paint 'em anyway to make a joke and a point) with colors that are ironically called 'Secret Admirer' and 'Pride.' Look, I'm a single homosexual who's very not ready to mingle. Until I've got someone to call my own, February 14 is nothing more than a randomly chosen day that I get chocolate and cards, therefore I constantly refer to it as Chocolate Day. Maybe my view on this day will change, maybe it never will, who knows?

Anyway, adiós.
