Chapter Ten: Just Another Nightmare
Logan's P.O.V.
"What?" I asked.
"In your bathroom." Patton whispered fearfully. "There's something in your bathroom." I wanted very much to be brave. I wanted to run into that bathroom and get rid of whatever was in there. In some way, I had the intense urge to protect Patton. To keep him safe from whatever was in there, then to hold him tight and keep away anything in the universe that dared harm him.
But despite what I wanted, I couldn't move. Honestly, I really couldn't move. I was trying with every muscle in my body to step forward, not even to the bathroom but at least towards Patton, but I was physically incapable of moving. Panic started slowly creeping in as I realized I also couldn't talk.
Somehow, Patton seemed to understand my situation and moved closer to me, putting one hand on my cheek and another on my shoulder. I could see that he was saying something to me, but I couldn't hear anything. My vision was quickly fading away, and I began feeling lightheaded.
But suddenly I was back to normal. I could hear, I could see, and I could move again. After gaining back my senses, I could tell that Patton had kissed me, and I wrapped my arms around his waist and kissed him back. He quickly pulled away and smiled.
"True love's kiss!" Patton said excitedly. "Gosh, I was scared that wouldn't work. Are you okay?"
"Yes, I think so." I replied. We both smiled, hugging each other tightly. However, when we broke apart, our smiles faded as we both remembered that there was something in my bathroom. We turned to face the door, and Patton intertwined his fingers with mine, giving my hand both a reassuring and fearful squeeze. Slowly, the two of us stepped closer and closer to the bathroom door.
Patton's P.O.V.
Logan, seemingly fearless, stuck his head in the bathroom. He did nothing other than look left, right, up, down, and all around, convincing me that it must be safe. I glanced inside over his shoulder, still holding his hand tight.
"He doesn't believe you." I heard someone whisper.
"What are you talking about, Logan?" I asked. We stepped away from the bathroom, Logan shutting the door.
"I didn't say anything, Patton." he answered, glaring at me with confusion.
"You know I'm here." I couldn't deny it that time; I heard someone talk, Logan's mouth didn't even move, and we were alone in the room.
"Don't worry, Patton, he simply just doesn't hear because he's not supposed to."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I yelled into the air.
"Don't try to deny what you already know. I am real. I am speaking to you. But I am not here with you. Logan will not believe you. He doesn't now, he didn't then, and he never will. He puts on a good show, pretending to love you. Deep down, you know the truth."
"He loves me!" I yelled with tears in my eyes.
"Patton, please, stop this." Logan whispered.
"Deep down you know you're lying. He doesn't love you. No one does. You know that's the truth. You live in lies, Patton."
"I do not!"
"I will leave you be now, but know that I will be back in a few days time."
"Please, just go away! Don't come back, please!"
"When I return I will collect you and one other, so enjoy your time while it still lasts, Patton. Goodbye."
Logan's P.O.V.
Patton dropped to his knees, crying softly and muttering inaudible words.
"Patton," I said, kneeling next to him. "You're fine, you're okay, everything's going to be okay." I picked him up bridal style and carried him off to his room, knowing for sure that he needed to get out of my room. I went back quickly to shut my door and lock it. When I returned to Patton he was beginning to calm down, his breathing and tears slowing.
"What happened?" I asked fearfully.
"T-there was a voice." he said. "It w-was saying t-that you d-don't l-love me. I-it said it w-was going to be b-back and it was going to 'c-collect' m-me and someone e-else." Patton sniffled and pulled me into a tight embrace.
"Y-you love me, right? You n-not lying to me, a-are you?" I nodded my head as I began stroking his hair gently with my right hand and pulled him close with my left.
"Of course I do, Patton." I reassured him. "And I'm sorry if I ever act like I don't. As you know, I am not very good with emotions, especially love, and quite honestly I am confused. Still, confused or not, I love you. I always have and I always will, and that's the most truthful thing I will ever say." Patton seemed comforted greatly by those words, and he sat up and looked me in the eye. His face was drenched with tears and yet his smile was not defeated; actually, his smile seemed to shine with the glimmer of the tears. No one in the world can smile just like Patton does.
"You know, for someone who claims to be horrible with emotions, you seem to be quite the romantic." Patton said with a small giggle. We sat silently for a while after that, both of us just thinking as we embraced.
"Thank you, Patton," I said after a very long silence. "For saving me."
"No, thank you, Logan." he replied. "You got us out of there. Plus, you love me, and I can't thank you enough for that." We both fell silent again after that.
"Patton," I began after a few minutes of quiet. "What exactly did you see in the bathroom?" He thought for a moment before answering.
"Oh I don't know. It just looked black and I just barely saw some part of it go into the bathroom."
"I think it could be the same shadow figure that I saw in the Library Of Memories. Maybe the voice you heard belonged to it."
"That makes perfect sense! Wait.." He was quiet for nearly a minute before he spoke again.
"Shouldn't we just rule out that the figure is the Dragon Witch in a different form? I mean, the Dragon Witch is dead, but the figure's not. If they were the same thing they would've both been killed when Roman killed the Dragon Witch."
"True.. Yes, it seems that now it is unlikely the Dragon Witch is the figure.."
"Hey! Nothing discouraging! We'll get Roman and Virgil involved and all of us can work together to figure out who that figure is and how to stop it before things escalator!." Suddenly a picture of an escalator appeared on the wall behind us, and Patton began laughing so hard he nearly fell off the bed. He and calmed down a few seconds later, and I grinned a little at the pun.
"Indeed we will, dearest." I said with a smile and a chuckle. "Indeed we will."
Roman's P.O.V.
I woke up, feeling a bit strange but also wonderfully comfortable. I rolled over, seeing Virgil and remembering that I had slept in his bed. I rubbed my eyes, getting a glance at my hands. They were a normal adult size, and so were my arms, and my legs, and everything else. I smiled, and settled down into the bed, finding extreme comfort in knowing I was finally back to my normal form.
I looked over at Virgil again, who was sound asleep facing me. He looked adorable in his sleep, and he looked more content than I'd seen him in years. Slowly, his eyes began to open, and he yawned and stretched his arms. I looked away, not wanting to seem like a creep. After about a minute, Virgil waved at me and mouthed 'hey.' I waved back, an awkward pause following.
"Do you mind if I tell you a little bit more about my dream?" I asked finally. Virgil yawned again and shook his head.
"When you were.. when you were dying, you could talk. You looked over at Logan and Patton, and you told them that you loved them. Then you looked at me, and you said you were sorry. You said that you should have done something sooner, and that it was too late. You said something else, but you..." I couldn't say the last few words.
"Is it possible that.. maybe the dream was telling me something? Is there something you can do now?"
A.N.
Obviously we all saw the Can LYING Be Good video (but if you didn't then what are you doing going watch it because one, spoiler alert, and two, seriously, watch it) which involved Deceit. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I could not have known he would be a character, I regret to inform you that he and the 'dark sides' will not be a part of this series at any point.
Ok quick story. I busted out the first roughly 1200 words from like 11:15pm to around 1:00am a couple weeks ago. Right at midnight I had to go to the bathroom. Coincidentally, I had just been writing about what was in Logan's bathroom and that whole exchange, so as I walked through the dark hallway and into the bathroom I was completely terrified, convinced that the shadow figure was going to pop up. I love writing but sometimes it'll trip me up and screw with me in real life.
Anyway, I hope this chapter was good and that you're satisfied with the story of what happened after that cliffhanger a couple chapters back. I just want to mention this now though: there are so many little hints I've been dropping for the big event of the story and as I go back and read through what I have it's funny because I feel like Salt Bae just instead of salt it's like major yet subtle hints at future story events. I'm just like "We gonna sprinkle a little foreshadowing here, oh and a cliffhanger here, and for a garnish we gonna have a hint that you don't even know is a hint."
Ok yeah, bye.
