Chapter Sixteen: Goodbye
Trigger Warning: blood, stabbing, fatality.
Thomas's P.O.V.
I woke up early two mornings later, and something felt off. Granted, every day for the past week I had woken up with that strange feeling, but that day was different. It was overwhelming anxiety, but an even stronger sense of foreboding.
I had been trying so hard to keep going each day, but with everything happening in my mind, I finally decided I should just cancel all my plans. For the past week I had been trying to make Vines, get ideas for Vines, get ideas for videos, and for that day, Saturday the thirteenth, I was supposed to do the same thing all over again. But a few minutes after waking up, I called Joan and Talyn and told them I was gonna have to call everything off.
"That's alright," they both said. "Take some time for yourself, get some rest, we can pick back up tomorrow or some other day." I had not yet told them about what was happening with my sides, and though I wanted them to know, I didn't want to hold out the conversation any longer. I actually wanted to go make some Vines and spend the day with my friends. But, instead I felt like my day would consist of reading, sleeping, and Steven Universe. I was somewhat fine with those plans, until around noon, when my entire world stopped with a quiet, distant, echoing scream.

I woke up with excitement. The night before, Patton had promised that if we all helped then we would make a massive buffet breakfast. I hopped out of bed and ran to my bathroom to shower. I was so excited to cook and enjoy the buffet breakfast that I didn't even bother to play music.
"Good morning everybody," Patton said when at last everyone was downstairs. Apparently, judging by the fact that even Virgil was up early to cook, everyone was excited. "Who's ready to get cooking?" Patton quickly assigned all of us our own jobs.
Patton was making pancakes, but he was also supervising all of us. Virgil was cooking the scrambled eggs, something he was apparently quite good at doing. Logan was in charge of the sausage patties, but was also washing dishes behind the rest of us. I was washing and cutting up fruit. Owen was getting ingredients out for everyone and setting the table. Milly was running back and forth, helping everyone who needed something and also managing the toast. When at last the food had been cooked and set out, we all sat down at the table and began to get our food.

"Thank you guys," I said, buttering a piece of toast. "Everything tastes amazing!" Everyone nodded and agreed with muffled voices, their mouths full of food. The smell of freshly cooked food wafted through the air as I took in the sweet taste of butter and jelly and the crunchy texture of toasted. I glanced around at my family, all eating happily and peacefully with smiles on their faces.

I sighed, standing up and taking everyone's silverware. Quickly, everyone else was standing and cleaning off the table. As I was standing in the kitchen sorting the silverware into the dishwasher, I suddenly heard shattering plates. I dropped the silverware and ran into the dining room to see Roman on the ground, Virgil against the wall, and Milly standing on a chair, all three covered in food and surrounded by broken plates.
"Are you alright?" I asked, cautiously moving towards them. They all nodded, bursting into laughter.
"What in the world just happened?" Owen questioned, stepping out from the kitchen.
"We ran into each other." Milly answered through laughter. The three slowly stopped laughing as Virgil cautiously stepped over the broken shards of plates in front of him and helped Roman up. Milly clambered backwards off the chair and went into the kitchen.
"Darling, you're covered in food." Roman said, holding back a laugh.
"You are too." Virgil replied.
"You guys go get cleaned up, we'll start handling this." I said, shooing the two off. They both tip-toed over the broken plates and food and made their way upstairs.

Roman and I went upstairs laughing.
"You know," Roman said, stopping in front of his door. "You've got a little jelly on your cheek." I smiled, pressing my finger to his lips as he leaned in to kiss my cheek.
"You know, pretty boy," I whispered. "I can tell the difference between the truth and a bad excuse to kiss me."
"Well why can't it be both? Because it is." Roman moved my hand away and kissed the side of my cheek.
"Raspberry?" Roman questioned. "I didn't even know we had raspberry."
"Hey, lovebirds," said a voice from the stairs. I turned to see Milly, her jeans stained and her arms crossed. "Before you get crazy, remember that we're in a hallway with six doors, and each of those doors leads to a room, so go get one." I blushed and Roman laughed embarrassedly.
"Go change your clothes, kid." I said, pointing my thumb to her door down the hall. She shrugged and left to her room as Roman pecked me on the cheek again and went inside his room. When everyone was out of sight, I smiled and put a hand to my cheek, feeling as though I was momentarily living in some fantasy world. Slowly, I walked off to my room to change my clothes and get washed up.
As soon as I entered my room, however, I felt an overwhelming sense of foreboding. Something is not right, I thought, looking around the room. I decided to just hurry up so I could get out of there as quick as possible. So I hurriedly changed into a new pair of pants and washed off my face. But, just as I reached for my doorknob to leave, I stopped. From the corner of my room near my closet, I could hear what sounded like a soft cry.
"I'm sorry," a quiet voice whispered. "I'm so, so sorry." Suddenly, an arm wrapped around my waist and a sharp pain shot through my stomach. I looked down quickly to see pitch black arms around me, one holding a knife. The arms and knife disappeared and I put my hand where I was stabbed. Falling to the ground, I cried out in agony.
There was, at first, red. Little drops of red fell onto a carpeted floor that I recognized to be blood. A pale hand fell to the ground next to the blood. I stared up at my white ceiling, hearing my door open and multiple people run in. I saw Roman in front of me, who picked me up and held me in his arms. Everyone was there with me; Patton, Logan, Roman, Milly, Owen, they all looked terrified.
"W-what happened?!" Roman asked.
"Stabbed.. by the dark figure.. The.. the readings.." I tried to say. "The readings were right... The dream.. was right..." I looked up at Patton, who was crying while holding my left hand in his.
"I don't think I'll be seeing you.. in the dark room, Patton... But you be careful... I love you, Dad..." I glanced over to Logan, who seemed to be in complete disbelief.
"Thanks, f-for trying to take care of me.. I know it's supposed to b-be an understood thing.. but I do love you..." My vision starting to blur, I turned to Owen.
"I wish I had more time with you... l-least more than a few days... Love you..." I tried to hurry as I turned to Milly, knowing that I didn't have much time left.
"Kid, d-do me a favor and go listen to.. Welcome To The Black Parade.. love you..." She smiled sadly and nodded. Lastly, I turned to Roman, my eyes filling with tears.
"You're not supposed to die," he said. "You're supposed to be taken to some dark room and your supposed to get rescued and your going to—" He stopped, taking in a deep breath and leaning down to kiss me.
"I love you, Roman." I whispered. With my last bits of energy, I moved my hand from my stomach to his hand, rubbing my thumb back and forth against the back of his hand. I looked at everyone one last time and smiled. Finally, I turned back to Roman and closed my eyes, unwillingly exhaling my last breath.
