Chapter One: The Singing Curse
Trigger Warning: barely detailed (but still occurrent) death by stabbing.
Third Person P.O.V.
Virgil and Roman Sanders walked slowly and silently through the vast plains of the Imagination. A few miles ahead of them, towering mountains. Far behind, the Kingdom of Creativity, ruled by King Roman. The two had been forced on this walk, and had no idea what to say or do. Awkwardly, Roman opened his mouth to speak, hesitating for a few seconds before words came out.
"So, do you like the scenery?" Virgil nodded, and silence fell over them once more. Some birds chirping softly in the distance were the only sound.
"Why were we fighting in the first place?" Virgil asked suddenly, the question shocking the fanciful Side.
"I, I don—" Roman was cut off by an earsplitting roar from the mountains. The two sides looked in its direction in fear. Seemingly from inside the mountain, out came a winged, green, fifty foot tall figure. While Virgil was confused and terrified, Roman was not confused in the slightest. He knew exactly who the figure was.
"Run!" he yelled sternly, grabbing Virgil's arm and dragging him close behind.
"Roman, what the hell is that?!" Virgil said, out of breath. The creature was flying straight towards them, and in a matter of seconds it flew from the mountains to directly in front of them.
"The Dragon Witch." Roman said, summoning and holding his sword out in front of him. "Now stand back, I don't want you getting involved in this." Virgil slid behind the knight, also not wanting to get involved.
"So, what are you doing here today?" The Dragon Witch said coldly. "Come to finish me off, have you?" The anxious Side became more frightened when he had to crane his neck to see the beast's eyes. Dark green scales covered the Dragon Witch's body, some of which missing and others decorated with scars. As Virgil assumed correctly, most of the scars were from Roman.
"My business here is not of your concern, foul beast. Now, go back to your lair where you came from and leave us alone, or I will be forced to proceed with harsh actions."
"My, I wouldn't want that to happen. Again."
"Dragon Witch, let's settle this like civilized members of the Mind. Fighting is not necessary, we can use words to sort out our differences." Virgil rolled his eyes.
"Where was that logic when you tired to punch me this morning?" he asked quietly.
"My oh my!" the Dragon Witch boomed. "Is that who I think it is? Virgil Sanders, Thomas's anxiety. Been a while since I've seen you anywhere in the Imagination other than the Enchanted Forest." Virgil's cheeks went red with embarrassment; he had no idea anyone knew he went to the Enchanted Forest. Roman glanced back at him in confusion, only to turn back quickly to the beast ahead.
"Don't get any ideas Dragon Witch; he is under my protection as of now."
"Oh, don't worry about him. If I were you, I'd be more concerned with my own safety, as I hold a grudge only to you." With those words, the Dragon Witch let out a roar and shot right at the knight king.
"Run, Virgil! Now!" Roman yelled. Virgil, panicking, ran north towards the Enchanted Forest. The Dragon Witch stopped him by stepping in front of him, leaving the anxious Side with nowhere to go. Roman ran as fast as he could to the beast, and, to Virgil's absolute and utter shock, jumped high in the air and sliced the side of the beast's neck. Letting out a final roar, it fell to the ground, Virgil's leg getting trapped under its massive arm.
"Help!" he yelled frantically, pulling desperately on his leg in an effort to free it. "Help me please, I'm stuck!" Roman, who had been on top of the Dragon Witch's head, heard Virgil and ran to free him. He was stopped, however, by the large tail of the beast and sent flying backwards. Then a quiet, yet somehow booming voice came from the Dragon Witch's mouth.
"Say what you will, try as you might, but you'll only be singing for the rest of your life." A long pause fell between that and the next words.
"Doomed, you are, to never sing again, for you may have defeated me but you will not win. You'll only have a week of this foretold curse, or the effects of this will be far worse." The beast coughed and took in a ragged breath.
"The curse can be broken, I promise you this, as long as you receive true love's first kiss." Something then hit Virgil and Roman in their throats and knocked them out. Then the Dragon Witch exhaled its last breath and shut its eyes forever.
Thomas's P.O.V.
I was in the middle of writing ideas for Vines to put in the monthly compilation, and suddenly I got very anxious. Then, about a minute or two later, my anxiety was gone. Every idea that I just had was gone too. Oh well this is just great, I thought to myself, those two idiots have gone and done something stupid again. Wanting to see if Virgil and Roman were ok, I tried summoning them. They didn't show up, so I summoned Patton and Logan.
"What is it, Thomas?" Logan asked.
"Well I think something happened to Roman and Virgil, their presences seem to have dissipated a bit and I can't summon them." Patton looked very confused.
"Well why'd you summon us if you think something's wrong with them?" he asked.
"Patton, obviously Thomas believes they are foolish enough to have gotten themselves in trouble and need us to locate and rescue them." Logan explained to the confused side. I nodded, that being fully correct.
"Well, off we go then." With that Patton grabbed Logan's hand and teleported them away. My anxiety may not have been full blast as usual, but I was still worried about what had happened to Roman and Virgil as of that moment.
Virgil's P.O.V.
My eyes fluttered open slowly, and I glanced about wondering where in the world I was. Suddenly it all came flooding back to me; the fight, the walk, the ginormous Dragon Witch that attacked us. I looked behind me, becoming acutely aware once more that I was trapped under the arm of the Dragon Witch.
"Help!" I yelled. Something about my yell was very odd: I sang it.
"Help me please!" Again, song. Then it clicked in my head and I faintly sang the words that explained my singing.
"Say what you will, try as you might, but you'll only be singing for the rest of your life." My heart shattered as I realized that the Dragon Witch had effectively cursed me and Roman.
"Virgil!" I heard Roman yell. "Virgil are you alright?!" He came running from behind the Dragon Witch's head and I nodded.
"Ok, stay still while I get this off you." He then, with a good bit of difficulty, lifted the arm off me enough for me to scoot away, then dropped it and inspected my leg.
"Doesn't look like it's severely hurt," he said quietly. "But I can't promise you you'll be able to walk on it." I was terrified of Roman hearing me sing, but he has before and I just couldn't stay silent for the rest of my life, or however long this curse was going to last.
"Ok for starters, how in the world did you jump that high? How'd you lift that arm off of me, oh and you won't be singing for a while." Roman stared at me with confusion.
"Why are you singing? And what in the world do you mean I won't be-" He cut himself off as his eyes grew wide with realization.
"No! No this can not happen! I can't go more than four waking hours without singing!" Roman continued on like that for another minute or so, freaking out about how he'd never be able to sing again and how his life was pointless now. Essentially, he reacted exactly how I thought. Suddenly, as though someone flipped a switch in his head, he calmed down and answered the question I had asked a few minutes prior.
"See, I have special powers when I'm here. Jumping higher, extra strength, summoning weapons. I guess you have powers here too, since it's the Imagination and pretty much anything Thomas can think of can happen." I nodded again, trying to think of myself with some kind of super powers. The image was hard to find, as when you're sitting next to a literal knight and king who just saved your life, you feel a lot more like a pitiful damsel in distress than anything else.
"So, what are we to do now?" Roman asked with a sigh. I though on it for a moment, then held out my hand to him. He hesitated before taking it. As soon as he did, I teleported us to Thomas's living room. He was standing next to the camera stand and fidgeting with it as if he had plans to make a video. Great, I thought, the whole world gets to know about the curse now.
Roman seemed to immediately think it was quite strange for two guys that hate each other to be holding hands watching another guy, and very quickly pulled his hand away in a notably grossed out manner. I frowned, thinking that he really, truly hated me. Surely he had to have been disgusted by me to have pulled away the way he did. Roman cleared his throat, making Thomas jump in fear.
"Good gosh," he said, putting a hand over his heart. "You guys about gave me a heart attack!" Quite clearly, Roman had bigger issues on his mind than a freaked out Thomas.
"Look Thomas, this is very serious. I need you to summon Patton and Logan, now." With a look of concern, Thomas nodded and then appeared the logical and moral sides in their respective places. Me and Roman walked to our spots and situated ourselves.
"Oh hey, we were just looking for you two!" Patton said.
"Alright," Thomas said. "We're on in ten.." Why, I thought. Why does my life have to be this way? I get cursed and now I'm stuck in a video about it.
"Seven.." Logan adjusted his tie precisely and pushed his glasses back to what I assume was a carefully calculated position, allowing him maximum clear vision.
"Five.." Patton tightened his cardigan and seemed to be going over puns in his head.
"Three.." Roman flattened out the more wrinkly parts of his pristine outfit.
"One.." I took a deep breath, trying not to focus on the curse or my voice or the obnoxious way Thomas was counting down or the camera about to turn on me. I wasn't exactly doing a very good job on not focusing on all the problems I had at the moment.
"What is up everybody!?"
