Prologue

The sky was nearly dark when a young man of the name Dorian Black arrived at the door of a man's mansion, whom he knew as Mr. Ackerman, as he owned a few businesses in their town of Aspen and owned a company called Para di Rose Corporation. Grasping the handle on the mansion door, he breathed in and out and nervously rapped two times. The door of the mansion flew open as he saw an elderly man of gray hair and piercingly blue eyes welcome him in.

As he walked inside, he gulped at the suffocating black foyer, which he was not expecting as it was his first time here. Looking around the area, a large staircase was centered, and two rooms were facing toward each other as a hall overlooked the left side of the room next to the staircase.

Not knowing what to say, he had figured the left room was the living room and the other, the dining hall, like a large table centered in that room. Walking into the living room, a young girl was playing with her dolls in front of a fireplace.

"Hi, are you Elizabeth Ackerman?" Dorian asks the girl.

The young girl looks up at Dorian, smiling, then answers, "I am. Do you want to play with me?"

Dorian nodded at the girl and sat down on the ground with her. The girl asked a few questions to Dorian, and as Dorian answered them honestly, that was when he heard the soft click-clack of shoes coming down the stairs as the boards creaked loudly. Looking towards the foyer, a six-foot-framed man came into the living room and stared at Dorian, until the man broke eye contact as he looked at his daughter.

"Elizabeth, have you met Dorian?" the man asked his daughter in a husky voice.

"Yes, father. He is really nice."

"I'm glad to hear that."

Mr. Ackerman then looked back at Dorian and said, "I will be out for a while. If there are any problems, call me. My daughter will give you my number."

Dorian nodded silently as the man left through the foyer doors and outside. Not knowing what the man, Mr. Ackerman, had to do, he watched silently as Elizabeth played with her dolls as he took his phone out and texted an old friend of his. While he and his friend were texting back and forth all through the night, that was when he heard the stair boards creek again. He looked away from his phone when he saw a beautiful, young girl in her teens as she walked into the hall and away from the living room. As he saw her walk out with an Oreo sleeve in her hand, she looked into the living room and saw Dorian looking at her. Once he turned his face toward Elizabeth, she disappeared back upstairs. Dorian looked back towards the foyer, but the girl was gone.

"Elizabeth, is that your sister?" Dorian asks the girl.

"Yeah, that's Kassandra, otherwise known as Kasey. She doesn't do much around the house other than watch movies and talk to her friends. Heck, she even has a boyfriend, but I don't know his name."

"Huh, she seems like a nice girl."

"She is, and I'm jealous."

"Why are you jealous?"

"She gets everything, and I don't. I have dolls, and I'm not allowed to watch movies or do anything. All my dad wants me to do is be a good daughter and don't do stupid things. I don't even have a boyfriend, and I'm not allowed to go to school."

"Ellie," Dorian says to her, "I'm sorry that happened."

"Tell that to my father. Our mother died not long after she had me, and I didn't even know my own mother. I only knew my father."

Dorian felt bad for Elizabeth and didn't know what to say.

Just within a few seconds, that was when the door of the mansion flew wide open, startling both Dorian and Elizabeth. Dorian looked up from Elizabeth, seeing Mr. Ackerman back so early.

"Mr. Ackerman, is everything all right?" Dorian asks, immediately getting up from the floor.

"We need to talk, Mr. Black."

Dorian felt the hairs on his arm prick up, alerting him. That was when a secret door opened up from the bookshelves in the living room and Mr. Ackerman walked in, Dorian following him. Inside the secret room, there was a study, but there was another door. Curious to know what was going on, Dorian asks Mr. Ackerman, "Is something going on?"

"Mr. Black, this is going to be hard for you but easy for me. Please, sit."

A chair pulled up out of nowhere, and curious to know what was going on, he sat down in the chair as Mr. Ackerman spoke.

"Mr. Black, or shall I say Bethany Dorian Black?"

"Sir, how do you know my name?" Dorian asks him.

"Dorian, I'm your father. I have been since you were born. My daughters Elizabeth and Kassandra are from another woman in my life, but their mother died, and I had to take care of them. What I am saying is that Elizabeth and Kassandra are your half-siblings. But you, my son, are different from them, and you are my only son. Due to my many daughters, you are the only son I have, and now, your life is in danger because of me."

"Danger? Sir, what are you talking about?"

That was when the door in the study opened and a dark forest of black and white appeared.

"What is that place?" Dorian asks.

"A place where things can come true that cannot come true here on earth," Mr. Ackerman answers.

"What do you mean?"

"The place was once called Paradise Island, but now it has become the Dark Ages, a dark place that I don't go to anymore because of a death that happened that made the island's color disappear for good."

"I would not like to visit there."

That was when Dorian felt like he was going to pass out, and then his vision became blurry, making him unconscious.

A few hours before...

A young woman named Raelynn Cormac, who was in her twenties, walked behind her friend, Sabrina Blackwell, who was entering a house full of people who were kissing others and playing idiotic games. That was when her friend disappeared, and Raelynn had no idea what to do. She didn't have Zion with her because he was with their friend, Dillon Rodriguez. However, Sabrina's boyfriend, Kane Sterling, was nowhere to be found, as he didn't follow his girlfriend around, and Raelynn did follow Sabrina around because of how much of an alcoholic she was.

While trying to get through the crowd, Raelynn bumped into an unknown body, and the person looked up at her.

"Raelynn Cormac?"

Raelynn looked up and didn't recognize the person. She didn't remember a lot of people in her past because of a lot of things going on in her life.

"Um, who are you?" Raelynn asks them, disgusted by the fact that someone remembered her.

"It's Katie Peters, from sophomore year in college," the girl says.

"I don't remember, sorry."

She moves back into the crowd, where she finds herself at the drinks table, as no one wanted to get a drink right now since they were preoccupied with drinking, kissing others, and dancing. Raelynn wanted to get out of this scene until she saw Sabrina hugging an unknown boy who was flirtatiously trying to kiss her until Sabrina pushed him into the pool, laughing.

Rolling her eyes, she walked over to Sabrina and pulled her out of the backyard, into the whole house, and into the front yard.

"Sabrina, you need to stop. You are too drunk."

"II don't care," she slurs, her body shrinking as she was about to pass out.

"Oh, no you don't. Let's get back to our apartment."

"No!!" she complains.

"We need to go, Sabrina."

"I don't want to go anywhere though. I want to drink and have fun!" she whines.

"I don't have time for this, Sabrina. I have to get to my job in a few hours, and who is holding me back? Now, please, Sabrina? Can we go?"

That was when the house started to disappear, like there was nothing in front of Raelynn's eyes. She couldn't tell if she was hallucinating or if it was reality. That was when a man appeared in front of them, a hundred feet away from them, but he was shadowy, and Raelynn couldn't tell who it was. It seemed like he was short until both girls passed out.
